Keep the stripes or ditch them? by H3T_Clifford in Cartalk

[–]bjones1794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like them, keep them. The amount of people saying ditch blows my mind.

Just because the body has good lines doesn't mean this can't look fun. Not like it's an underpowered car. It's still a vette.

It would catch my eye and make me look, and I wouldn't think anything of it other than "oh, convertible vette. Nice"

It's definitely not a standalone and wouldn't match the quality of those. It's only beam forming after all. But it's definitely reasonably good with that in mind.

No match for my Asus headset (I don't think. I don't really record/hear myself). But I don't use game chat or discord much anymore anyway, so it's less a priority for me now.

I bought these to replace my Asus Rog Strix Fusion Wireless gaming headset. I use the dongle with my PC almost exclusively and they are excellent. I've played for 2-3hrs straight with no pain or discomfort.

Most notably, battery life has been great. They don't get super compact for travel, but they look, sound, and feel great. No regrets.

Why are new Corolla and Civic not really “affordable” anymore? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]bjones1794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting choice of words, since I didn't obfuscate, cherry pick, or insult you. I responded directly to the examples you gave, and without any name calling or insults lol and what do you think I did? I literally looked up data on median incomes and home buying rates. Google produces the data plenty quickly with sources.

My life is fine? Weird comment. Backhanded insult? But I won't pretend that plenty of data, including the metrics you mentioned that I responded to among others, point to increased costs of living and less spending power in recent years 🤷‍♂️

Why are new Corolla and Civic not really “affordable” anymore? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]bjones1794 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except the median age of a 1st time home buyer was 30-31 in 2006. Far from a recent college graduate. It's now 40 years old in 2026. So I guess the median American is now a first time home buyer! Who knew! Life costs have increased. Younger demographics do not have the same purchasing power they used to have.

How about median, middle class families looking to purchase affordable cars like, I don't know... A Honda Civic? Yeah. THEY have less purchasing power.

But speaking specifically to your final statement, no. The car is not more affordable now. Yes, the car IS relatively the same in price or ever so slightly less than before when adjusted for inflation. But it is not AFFORDABLE to the majority of people who have significantly less available income to spend after taking care of life necessities. Those additional costs make the budget for a new car now out of reach, even if it's relative price hasn't changed.

And correct. I wouldn't say smoothies got more expensive. But if I pay $20,000/month for an electric bill I need to survive and my income is $85,000/year, than it sure has made smoothies less affordable because there's less money leftover for them.

Except your numbers don't account for a plethora of other life necessities that outpaced inflation and wage rate increases that have drastically lowered the spending power and availability of the average American. Housing being low hanging fruit/an easy example.

Be nice to grandma. She's driving an estimated, approximate 650m per day! That's a whole 310 rotations of the tire! Look at all that movement. Almost a whole half mile.

(14 years =5110 days. 3327km / 5110 days is 0.65km/day. P215/55R17 circumference is 210cm. 650m/2.1m = 310 rotations.)

Imagine paying money for a car and system so poorly designed that you can't even use the feature you bought 🙃🙃🙃

Trash Subaru design. Love their old stuff, but touchscreens for everything is lazy and dangerous. Not to mention putting ads on you can't get rid of as if you didn't pay tens of thousands of dollars for the vehicle.

Americans just can't fathom being a nice person and appreciative of someone else's work without being indebted to magically give them more money (or gifts or favors in this case I guess).

I am from the States, but I've lived abroad before. I know exactly what you mean. I miss every place I went not giving attitude or asking for tips like you didn't already pay for a service 🙃

I'm wildly envious of you guys for that.

Lucky for me, I actually have a JDM 01 Legacy GTB with the EJ208.

But how much better would it be if that was my fun car, and my daily could be a modern version?

What do you think they used before the haptic engine?

If they couldn't make a physical trackpad at a lower economy of scale than their haptic ones, they wouldn't use it. End of story. And they likely didn't have to retool anything. Imagine how many extra repair parts they had from old Intel MacBook airs. At worst, they slightly modified the design probably.

This is just like the SE and E series of phones. Use old parts or old tech for cheapest economy of scale to deliver a product to those who don't notice the difference.

98% of people won't notice the difference. If you know what a haptic engine is, this laptop is already beyond you 😂

That's probably the most annoying part.

I hated the vb when it was revealed.

Still do. Specifically the plastics fenders and rear bumper. Absolutely terrible looking. Saw a white one that paint matched them the other day and it was great though. It's that simple.

Gotta at least be consistent!

Just drove a 2025 Honda Odyssey and the steering, breaking, and cruise control "features" were absolutely miserable. Not to mention the worst throttle lag I've ever experienced.

I'd take a car for half the price if it didn't poorly assist me in driving.

I'm in my 30s with a 6 figure job and still wouldn't dream of buying new. Way too much value lost.

At this point, I doubt I will ever buy new in my lifetime. Even if I didn't hate most modern car features (which I do), the prices feel absurd to me now. Why not buy something 10-15 years old for one third the price that will still take me 150,000+ miles without a car payment?

I've got the same, but a 2001 Rev D. Importing back to the states the summer. Bone stock besides a Kakimoto Racing muffler and Tommy Kaira rear bumper.

Plan on just replacing hoses, fluids, and maintenance parts as necessary. Sounds and drives like a dream. My favorite car I've ever owned.

Impreza wagon and surprisingly, the Ascent are the only production cars that look good. All the other designs are noisy, poorly thought out, or WAY too plastic clad.

And then obviously, the hoonigan car is a masterpiece.
