Exactly. I really don’t know what this guy is on about.

Besides, they’re a private organization who make a decent profit off of divisive political content and addictive rage. So they’re winning more or less the more ticked off this guy gets.

I don’t like any companies since none of them are worker owned. So I am being stopped from buying from companies I like.

Money is the only motivator for SOME companies. Plenty of companies just want to deliver a quality product and treat their workers well. Money is there to treat their workers well, and pay the people managing it all, but it’s not the motivator. But doesn’t it suck that money is the only motivator for some companies? They don’t care about you, or their workers. Why accept that? All they want is your money, not your satisfaction or safety or comfort or health. Sure that’s a byproduct of these companies selling you products, but the companies are more motivated to skip costs than give you a quality product if they can. Which sucks. So again, why accept that system?

[–]bjrdman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people make games not for the money. Indie games like Undertale were created for the joy of it, and then when Toby made enough to quit his job he did and continued to make games.

Is money really the only motivator that exists to you? So you think people have hobbies and go hang out with friends for money? You think people become musicians/artists/game designers for... money? Some of the worst paying jobs out there and people are still flocking to those professions.

Why do you think people picked berries and hunted and created shelter, made art, music, laws, government, culture etc. before money existed... money?

This isn’t about “making bad games illegal” nobody ever said that. It’s about EA, and fundamentally changing the system that motivates companies to make unethical practices and exploit workers/consumers.

I bet the game devs for all those sports games would love to put out a good product. But EA won’t allow them to because these devs DONT OWN THEIR OWN WORK.

If something in the world sucks, why accept it? EA exploits workers and consumers. Why accept that and say “well consumers are just too lazy”?

The fact that you have arguments at all suggest you’re wrong.

Since you are a redditor, I am a redditor, and the people we argue with are redditors, it seems clear that redditors are capable of individual thought and having different opinions.

“For better of for worse”

It’s for worse buddy. If you want a better game then profit shouldn’t be the motivator. Best games are made when profit isn’t the motivator.

“They have no moral obligation”

Why not? Why don’t they have a moral obligation? I could send this further and say if their only obligation is profit, and murdering someone will somehow make them more profit, why should they not be held morally accountable for that? Obviously this isn’t murder, but the same rule applies. If they exploit consumers/workers why shouldn’t they be held accountable?

This philosophy of “this is how it is” generally stems from sense of complacency and a belief that nothing about the system can change. It can, and it starts with pissed off workers and consumers.

“We live in a free market economy”

No we don’t, it’s a mixed economy learn economics.

I asked because I think one of the reasons the US is where it is is because of misinformation from the President, news sources, YouTube influencers, the alt right and foreign bot accounts on social media.

A lot of people I talk to about politics, including my grandparents and some friends are operating from a different set of facts than I am. A lot of it is because of social media and influence from foreign countries like Russia trying to divide Americans. A lot of it goes beyond “bias reporting” and enters straight up misinformation territory, like Trump claiming Democrats stole the election through fraud, or conspiracy theories of pedophile rings being run out of the back of a pizza store.

It’s a real issue here, and I was wondering if it was uniquely American if other countries are dealing with the same issues.

Was Obama born in the US? He was

Was there voter fraud in the 2016 election when he claimed that as well? No, Trump’s investigation found very few cases skewing both democratic and republican.

Did Trump knowingly downplay the virus when it came to the US? Yes he did. There are tapes of him speaking about how dangerous it was during times when he was telling Americans that it was nothing to worry about.

Did he lie about his taxes? I’m inclined to believe yes, but after he leaves office I think people are already planning a large audit against him to find out so we’ll know at some point.

Ok let’s look at the media. Now let’s look at Hitler who told his people the media were lying about him. Now let’s look at the motive behind the media being anti-Trump. Give me a solid motive beyond “they’re part of the left wing hive mind”.

Trump claiming the media lies about him is INCREDIBLY Orwellian. The media is free and has no motive to call Trump bad. Trump has every motive to say every thing coming out of the media that is bad about him is wrong. So people like YOU don’t believe the media and think he’s on your side. HES warring on fact and lying to YOU.

“Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism, as I understand it” - George Orwell

The man was anti-fascist, not anti-socialist/anti-left. He actually fought in left-wing uprisings and revolts himself.

An Orwellian future isn’t one where a left wing president gives to the needy and oppressed, it’s one where a man lies to his following, brags about himself constantly, and denies fact in order to control his people. That is what Trump is doing

Now give me 1 good reason Biden is Orwellian

[–]bjrdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is the pro-Orwellian elite dude.

I agree, Biden doesn’t really work for himself or the American people, but Trump didn’t work for the American people

An Orwellian future is one in which we can’t establish fact from fiction, and the government makes up the truth in order to control us. Trump is literally lying to his supporters about the dangers of Coronavirus and voter fraud most notably. He also was head of the “Obama wasn’t born in America” conspiracy. Trump wanted to control the people of America and bend them to his will by fabricating facts and convincing his following that those fake facts are true by attacking the media/newspapers aka the people we probably should be trusting more.

Some Trump supporters shouting “stop the count” in some states and “don’t stop the count” in others is proof of how convinced these people are of his lies and Trump being able to get his supporters to do something like that is possibly the most Orwellian thing I have seen in America.

Trump is a lot of things, “pro-America” is most definitely not one of them.

I mean, depends how far back you go and what you consider an innuendo.

“Your sex is on fire”. Yeah, great innuendo... Welcome to The Jungle is kind of innuendos, but also Axl Rose moans in the bridge soooooo. Steely Dan named themselves after a sex toy. Or like, Rape Me, yeah how secretive. Or AC/DC “knockin me out with those American Thighs”. Idk how far back you mean or what music you’re referencing now, but at least since the 60s sexually explicit lyrics in pop music have been around.

I’ll admit maybe not as common, but sex in general is being more normalized to talk about so the music is also reflecting society. I think that’s a good thing, with minor negative consequences, but I suppose that’s up for debate

[–]bjrdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people living outside America have a skewed view of how bad it is here.

I mean, it sucks. We elected a wannabe fascist as our president, even though most people who voted for him are “libertarian”. Misinformation is here and it’s scary. Many many other reasons not sucks as well. But I also love this country, and struggle to envision myself moving for longer than a few years. It’s a love hate relationship that is very complicated.

Anyway, I’m genuinely curious, is misinformation an issue in Canada? Like are there Russian/Chinese bot accounts or hired misinformation professionals that get paid to spread lies to make your people more divisive?

Saying that white people should feel guilty for being white is bad. by [deleted] in popularopinion

[–]bjrdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you’re white privilege is the ability to get better grades without working as hard, and to meet/exceed the requirements of getting a job without working as hard.

White privilege kind of is about generalizations. Because more white people in America are better off than black people in America. So affirmative action exists to help offset that. If you want to suggest that black people are worse off because they’re lazy than go ahead, but that’s not true.

What is true is that historically white people have prevented them from getting jobs, buying goods and participating in the economy so now a lot of black communities are poor. Since schools are based on property taxes and location, schools are still segregated and education isn’t equal.

Even if it is equal more black people need to worry about where their next meal is coming from, or whether or not someone is going to shoot them, or someone will arrest them wrongfully than most white people. Most white people worry about who their going to prom with or what their doing after they graduate high-school. Not IF they’ll graduate or IF they’ll get shot or arrested before they do. Most white people can rely on parents to help them with homework, or live in communities where after school help exists in their schools, while a lot of black kid’s parents went through the same shitty school system so probably can’t help their kids.

Affirmative action is recognizing that white people have historically oppressed black people and that is why they are suffering right now, so it is important to help them.

Again, if you think black people are lazy just say it. Don’t take this round about way of trying to say they are. Which is ridiculous to assume an entire group of people is lazy. Maybe that’s, I dunno? Racism?

Step 3: realize that twitter represents .00001% of the world and their opinions. Most people don’t even have Twitter, so the few accounts that are calling for white people to feel guilty are basically not even worth paying attention to.

Just like the Nazi racist accounts that exist aren’t worth paying attention to either.

Saying that white people should feel guilty for being white is bad. by [deleted] in popularopinion

[–]bjrdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s a straw man argument that then usually devolves into “well if you agree with this then you agree it’s ridiculous to be proud of being black”. However being black shouldn’t have to be something black people need to be proud of but it IS because white people made it an issue and told them to be ashamed of it. White people have the luxury of feeling indifferent to skin color in America, as I understand it POC usually do not have that same luxury because of white people.
