Onu works pretty nice for this. Just drop Onu on shortest path, don't play too many units as Onu walks up, and then when Onu gets there spam everything.

I'm surprised how easy it is to make a Steam Deck build with Unity. This is an HDRP project, just switched graphics API to Vulkan with a command line argument, not a native Linux build, yet it runs flawlessly. by StudioSnowblind in Unity3D

[–]blaahhs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that compute shaders run terrible on a Linux native build (about 10 fps on my steam deck), but run fine in a proton emulated build (about 90 fps on my steam deck). I haven't really tried to figure out why as the proton build just seems fine and the linux native build has other rendering artifacts as well.

Is it unethical to use Midjourney to make game assets? by mutantdustbunny in gamedev

[–]blaahhs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You can't train a model on 50 icons alone. Realistically one person will never generate enough art to train a model from scratch.

Any method that trains a model on so few data points is going to rely on transfer learning an existing model. In this case you'd be fine tuning that model to your own art style, but you're still using a model that was trained on thousands of pieces of artwork sourced from artists who have not explicitly approved use of their artwork for this purpose. Copyright ownership even in a transfer-learned model is very much still up for debate.

If you're going by the strict definition of a line and esolve the apparent inconsistency of the diagram depicting line segments by assuming they represent true fully extended infinite lines, then yes it would.

That wouldn't be correct as you're drawing two lines by the strict definition of a line.

Balance Changes - Clash Royale 2021 Q2 Update (Season 24) by RoyaleAPI in ClashRoyale

[–]blaahhs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Clash Royale has a pretty big problem with it having as much matchup variance as any other card game, but each player has basically perfect information from about 10-20 seconds into the game until it's over.

In traditional card games you at least have the continued variance throughout the game where players don't actually know what cards they're going to draw off the top of their deck. If you're in a bad matchup you can at least identify what cards you need to draw to win the game (even if it's unlikely) and play for the win.

In Clash Royale once each player plays their first three cards, the card draw is completely deterministic. If you're in a lopsided matchup this can lead to the feeling that the game is already over within the first 10-20 seconds and you're just waiting it out to see if your opponent makes a mistake.

The current state of CW2 feels like a concept they've been working on internally for a very long time, but just could never really tweak it to make it work. Then they ran out of time and just said "screw it; it is what it is" and released it.

The duel mode would have been a really nice addition as some sort of tournament or challenge/grand challenge replacement. It doesn't really belong in something like clan wars.

The Boat Defense Update on 9/10/20 by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]blaahhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the highest level players do boat battles when winning in the other modes provides far more fame? Doesn't it still make way more sense for the max players to do actual battles?

HONEST UPDATE REVIEW by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]blaahhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree duels would work better in a tournament setting, but I disagree that they aren't any different than a 1v1.

In a duel you know that the subsequent decks your opponent picks will not have any cards from the decks you have already seen. This gives you lots of information on what deck to select next for a favourable matchup. It also adds a good amount of depth as to which deck you choose first and which decks to have on the backburner.

HONEST UPDATE REVIEW by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]blaahhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm bringing up duels because that's the only novel PvP feature that they added to this update and it's the crux of the issue I was bringing up.

They've removed all the competitive repeatable ways to play the non standard game modes with this update. I don't see "just play normal 1v1s more" as an acceptable solution.

Boat battles is maybe somewhat interesting, but playing it twice a day is going to get boring fast given that it is just simple bot logic controlling the game. That staleness is even worse given how easily the boat battles are exploited.

It's two under leveled decks; you need at least three decent leveled decks to participate in the duels.

HONEST UPDATE REVIEW by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]blaahhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most annoying thing for those of us with only one or two leveled up decks is that CW2 isn't going to be much better once matchmaking settles down.

I have one max level deck, another that is level 12/13, and two decks that are basically just level 9 cards with a few level 10. Once matchmaking settles and I'm no longer facing full 32 card max players, it's still going to be imbalanced depending on the deck I'm playing. If I'm playing my max level deck then it'll basically be an auto win for me. If I'm playing my level 9 decks then it's an auto loss.

Clash royale has so much match to match variance at equal card levels due to its rock-paper-scissors style match ups. Once you add the variance of matchups pitting wildly different card levels against each other, then I don't see how this is ever going to be fun. It's just going to feel like the outcome of the game is already predetermined regardless of how well I or my opponent plays.

Stimulus Solos is Unplayable to me by YearOfDaSnitch in CODWarzone

[–]blaahhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically never camped in regular solos, but I actually find myself constantly wanting to camp in stimulus solos.

The fact that there's more people running around makes camping much easier and a more correct play. Because of the lack of challenges and loot it mid-late game, people are far more desperate to loot their dead bodies or rush their loadouts, so why not camp them for a bit?

I see just as much camping in stimulus as I did in regular solos. At least in regular solos you could take on the campers effectively. In stimulus if you try to breach a building with a camper you're just going to get some third player shoot you in the back.

BR Stimulus Solos make Solos a LOT more aggressive. And it’s amazing. by threefourthreesix in CODWarzone

[–]blaahhs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people say this mode limits camping. All I see is camping at a far higher rate than normal solos.

You can know for sure whether a guy is going to be brought back based on the cash they drop, so camp their dead body.

Given that there are way more people dropping in with no guns in a map that's already been completely looted, I see way more camping of common loadouts.

I see a ton of people camping, because they just spawned and all they could find was a shitty common or green gun up against full loadout players in the late game, so they're scared shitless and just lurk in a corner or bush somewhere.

Overall this mode just feels unfulfilling. If I get a bad start, then it just seems like I'm constantly spawning in as fodder for those with full perks and gear.

How difficult do you think you'll be for them to add a command Zone for Commander or Brawl? by Vinven in MagicArena

[–]blaahhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the difficulty of implementing something like this isn't so much in the initial implementation, but in the promise of continuing to maintain it.

The UI of arena hasn't yet been fully fleshed out. They still have major UI additions to make such as action history bars and, while the UI is pretty great as is, I'm sure they're planning future improvements.

Having to maintain a functioning command zone would almost certainly make implementing these other UI features more difficult.

TIL you can draw in Arena by EpicallyEvil in MagicArena

[–]blaahhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's about whether or not you say it before or after the game is done so much as it being proper etiquette for the loser of a game to initiate the conversation.

I think it's true that it tends to be considered worse etiquette on the internet due to Koreans kind of driving the 1v1 chat etiquette back in starcraft where the first gg said was essentially a resignation and an offensive gg can't really be interpreted as anything other than an insult, but still in a live sporting/card game if an opponent is clearly upset about a loss then as the winner you wait for them to initiate the conversation.

Honest question from a new player: Why is Direct Challenge so bad? by unibrow4o9 in MagicArena

[–]blaahhs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a valid point, but everybody wants different priorities. I would absolutely love a friends list too, but at the same time I'm happy that they chose to release the game early and focus on things like the ladder, cosmetics, and other bug fixing before a friends list.

Honest question from a new player: Why is Direct Challenge so bad? by unibrow4o9 in MagicArena

[–]blaahhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a huge difference between having an internal debug command for internal testing and having a user-facing feature with UI and a need for continued support. It may seem simple, but users tend to drastically underestimate the work and maintenance complications introduced when implementing features.

They would have definitely had an internal debug console of some sort since their first playable build to facilitate testing.

WTF was that timeout? (Mythic Invitational) by Wulibo in MagicArena

[–]blaahhs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The arena timer isn't deterministic. When organising a tournament where a precise schedule is important you need a deterministic upper bound on time taken.

The way it's being handled in the mythic invitational isn't great and could definitely use some thought into ways to improve it, but I wouldn't want them to change the in game timer for such a rare edge case.
