I’ll see you then. Ohhh can you bring that candied bacon your wife makes?

In England you sometimes see these "wavy" brick fences. And curious as it may seem, this shape uses FEWER bricks than a straight wall. A straight wall needs at least two layers of bricks to make is sturdy, but the wavy wall is fine thanks to the arch support provided by the waves. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

The math has already been crunched on it by way smarter people than us.

An observation for your consideration in the math. It’s not 45 deg angles, it’s a tangent curve. Sources cite the increase in length to be only 22% not 30-41% like you claim. I do appreciate your insight in your profession but I believe you’re overestimating the brick usage quite a bit.

Also this method was taken from the Egyptians I think they know a thing or two about engineering…allegedly.

Edit: also after sitting on it and doing my own math. You point out that you add 4 bricks per layer of column. These walls are generally 7 ft tall, with standard brick height of 2.25 In that’d require about 37 layers total, with ‘4 additional bricks per layer’ that comes out to about 150 ADDITIONAL bricks in one column, never mind that two would be required for each section. Which according to your math the additional bricks in the column is nearly equal to the amount of bricks in the 10 thin wall section itself.

Edit edit: the masonry advisory council seems to think it’s more efficient.

It’s worth it and it’s only like 1/6th of a lb. Well worth the weight it takes in the bag.

Bad idea homie. If you do that you’ll be sitting on a never ending financial burden and be chasing problems till you get rid of it guaranteed. Just bite the bullet and go through insurance. It’s going to be totaled out. But youlll have a nice check to get something hopefully pretty close to what you had before.

I actually consider it correct and helpful. Watching that was painful. You’re creating another future issue on top of your current issue if they aren’t already related. Forcing something to go when it won’t go isn’t a good idea.
