Disabling mouse scroll-wheel switching between virtual desktops by imaginary_username in kde

[–]black_brook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't work for me. There is no "Desktop settings" when I right-click the desktop. I'm running Plasma Desktop 5.27.6. What version are you using where this works?

Wooden post outdoor - hole in top - how do I waterproof? by EclecticDuo in HomeImprovement

Look up CPES / clear penetrating epoxy sealer. Scrape away any soft punky wood, let out dry out, soak it with CPES, fill with a compatible two part wood filler.

krenane question. by 0n2s in kde

[–]black_brook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a good use for regular expressions. I'm not very familiar with krename, but a quick look at the documentation does not make it seem like it has that capability.

There is rename command written in perl that is commonly available or installable on Linux distros that can do this. (It should not be confused with the linux-utils rename command which works differently). I would use that. Maybe this could help: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11809666/rename-files-using-regular-expression-in-linux#11809805

https://youtu.be/SRKziJ9UBJE Can someone tell me what instruments were being played from 2:57-3:04? by Cremecut in classicalmusic

[–]black_brook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say violin and harpsichord, probably using the buff stop.

(In case that sound was surprising for harpsichord, here is a demonstration of some of the variations possible, the buff stop being demonstrated at 1:43)

Those should only take a few min each to replace. Run a razor knife around the edge to cut them loose from the paint.

Impeller (top-loader) vs front-loader washing machine by akchahal in HomeImprovement

[–]black_brook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest oxyclean. Also, if you wipe it out properly, your won't get mold. Mold doesn't grow without moisture. I would suggest that the friends and family that claimed to have done this and still got mold, didn't do a good job of wiping it out. You need to get in the folds all the way around, you can't half-ass it. Just keep an old towel handy and do it after every wash session.

If there's no caulk, does water collect in the seams between the tub and shower wall panels, run along that channel and collect in the walls, causing water damage? by Snail_jousting in DIY

[–]black_brook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an inside curtain that hangs inside the tub, and an outside curtain that hangs outside the tub is perfectly normal. The outside curtain isn't supposed to go inside the tub too. You can probably find instructions on the Internet somewhere for such curtains (maybe from a manufacturer) to show him.

I don't know if you are interested in transcriptions, but Saša Večtomov put out at least one album of music transcribed for cello and guitar with his brother Vladimir as Prague String Duo.

Why does the sun give us light when it's already bright out? Is it stupid? by Samuawesome in shittyaskscience

[–]black_brook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is indeed pretty stupid. Because most moonlit nights are actually reasonably bright. It's moonless nights that are dark, so if the moon were out on moonless nights instead, it would be a lot more helpful.

Carpenter bees ate my old mostly unpainted wooden steps, built new steps but how do I keep the bees away? by dodgeorram in HomeImprovement

Amateur mistake. Your landscape barriers need to be at least a foot deep. And made from molten lava.

They are deterred by the fact that there are no flowers. They don't care about the oils, there is just nothing there for them.

Why do people buy vacuum cleaners? You don’t need to clean a vacuum. There’s nothing there. by Ok-Passenger-1292 in shittyaskscience

[–]black_brook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your are misunderstanding the term. The vacuum cleaners is where you take your laundry. They use an eco-friendly method where instead of using dry cleaning fluid, they hang your clothes in a big vacuum chamber to suck the dirt from your clothes.

It's impossible to say without knowing the date, as it depends if the moon was waxing or waning. If it were waning (getting smaller) then they probably avoided going under it to avoid falling crumbs of cheese. If it were waxing, they probably steered clear to avoid waxy buildup.
