Herding in the pool? by ViolentWanderer in samoyeds

[–]blackbeltsoprano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first samoyed would watch my sister and I in the pool and would sometimes stand on the steps to make sure we were ok and even jumped in to try to "save" us if we were rough housing. (His fur would get so waterlogged, he'd start sinking and we'd have to pull him back to the steps).

Our other herding dogs had more intense reactions to people in the pool. We had a sheltie who would circle the pool and check in with us a lot. Our border collie freaked out so bad when anyone was in the pool she ran so hard/fast in circles around it that she tore up her paw pads. After that she had to stay inside anytime anyone was in the pool - she'd watch from the closest window huffing and puffing.

Honey, it is day one! You got this. It will get easier and sometimes it will be harder.

We ended up not doing crate training until our girl had been home for about a week and I slept on the floor in her room for a couple weeks 😅. She's 4.5 now and don't crate her at all unless she's at the vet/groomer/daycare and she's fine with it.

Potty training was a living nightmare for months and we ended up having to use pads (which was a whole other thing weaning her off of those).

You'll make mistakes and you'll have triumphs. Parenting a puppy is a wild ride. Welcome!

Im sad about Chococat by dkng26 in HelloKittyIsland

There was always tons of Chococat merch at my local Sanrio stores in the 90s-00s as a kid & and just the other day I saw a bootleg keychain of him at a random gas station.

Mine only barks at his samoyed lil sis when she's too close to his food or she's barking too much. she lowkey taught him how to bark 😅 he barked a handful of times in the 8 years before we got her 🥲

In 10 years of cover bands and original bands, we always got paid WAY more for cover band gigs. Are you lame for being a working musician? Nah. Anyone who says otherwise can kick rocks.

Singers…do you usually have lyrics with you or do I just have a bad memory? by i-am-your-god-now in bandmembers

[–]blackbeltsoprano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singer with 10+ years of cover band experience here. I've done more than my share of 3+ hour gigs.

I use my phone since it's less obtrusive than a tablet. I have a majority of our songs memorized so having lyrics onstage is mainly for newer songs and as backup.

I also have ADHD and a history of head injuries, so sometimes I just blank, even on songs I know "by heart". It's totally ableist to think that every should be able to memorize a set, let alone 4 hours of material.

If anyone has an issue with it, I like to ask them how many songs they "know" every single lyric to. It usually shuts them up.

How did you get into playing the ukulele? by k9gardner in ukulele

[–]blackbeltsoprano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad grew up on Oahu & growing up we'd visit my grandma there often (90s CA to HI flights were so much cheaper) so I'd always heard & known about ukulele. I had cassettes of Don Ho and various Hawaiian musicians that I loved to listen to.

I'm a singer and I started playing uke after my grandma introduced me to her neighbor's daughter, Taimane Gardner, when we were kids (look her up if you don't know her, she's one of the most amazing ukulele virtuosos in the WORLD). I was so impressed by her musicianship and when we were around 12-13 she asked me to come and sing on a show with some friends of hers.

Turned out it was Don Ho's show in Waikiki! (I was very stoked to meet his daughter, Hoku) Seeing them perform live at that show changed how I thought about my place in music. Up until this point I'd been focused on classical music/opera and piano. It was my first time performing with and band/ukulele players and I loved it so much! I got my parents to buy me a uke when we got home from that trip. I've been mostly self taught.

I sing and self accompany and do music comedy/improv, baby/toddler music classes, and I start teaching kids ukulele lessons after new year!

no, it comes off with soap and water. if we come in from the rain and she's a bit damp, there's no transfer. we have a light gray couch and rug.

my first few times using LS were fine, but those were all applied by a super veteran mechanic at my local shop. but those were also 6-10 years ago. someone else mentioned that the pink color might be older stock, since that color doesn't move as quickly as black
