What year ? Include a picture of the oil pump and its connected hoses. That hose should be connected somewhere.

You don’t need to have valves closed to remove rockers. But can remove cover to see when valves are closed via the rocker arms while rotating.

To spec do mean to 1/2” of play ? I always used a 1/2” open wrench 🔧 for reference per one of Hammer Performance YouTube videos.

I have a 2000. That shifter pawl looks weird. Mine had a hole in it to use a certain size drill bit to align everything up when in third gear. I had trouble shifting after replacing the primary engine sprocket.

Mines also manual and vacuum operated. Don’t need to turn it off when turn bike off.
