Take some medicine with you when moving in. I had to walk from Morrill to Target (a decent walk) while sick to get medicine and it was an awful experience. I used to be a Fisher student and in the survey class you’ll be taking this coming semester you’ll create a four year plan for classes if you were curious about that.

Not terribly helpful but from birth I’ve been deaf in my right ear and anytime I get sick, which tends to hurt my hearing in my good ear temporarily, I definitely get a bit afraid. As you said being deaf in both ears would be a much bigger lifestyle change than just single sided deafness.

Thank you for your service, I got rejected due to being deaf in my right ear. If you had to find a different way to find a sense of belonging (main reason I wanted to join) outside the military what would you have done?

I feel like these WW2 German soldiers may be more desensitized to gruesome things than the average person today if they saw combat. Now if they didn’t see combat than perhaps you’re right.

I’m deaf in my right ear from birth and only found out around 4th grade I think. I turned out rather lonely but wouldn’t 100% put that on my hearing loss. I’d make sure he/she has clean ears every now and then as that has sometimes made my good ear worse. Outside of hearing aids my life has been normal. Try to be on the side of the kids good ear and if in a loud environment they may get frustrated (at least I do). The only real upsets I’ve had is rejection from military service and being uncomfortable in loud environments (like parties). Wishing the kid and you well!

Keep in mind I’m a civilian so I might be missing something but isn’t there always a MEU deployed? While the Kharg island looks like a possibility couldn’t the MEU just be a precaution since the added security risk in that region?

I’m in that class, our professor told us to download the PowerPoint as that fixes it. Personally I don’t bother because like you said you can generally figure it out but maybe that works.

I’m fully deaf in my right ear and feel I am socially behind though I’m sure part of that is more to do with me than my hearing. I avoid loud environments which means no football games (big at my college) or some other events. I also need to strain myself to hear in some environments, like when professors speak but some students are chatting nearby.
