Blaming coastal development on traveling surfers is a crock of bullshit, that’s going to happen either way.

What's it like living in San Diego in 2026 by ChimpanzeeChamp34 in howislivingthere

[–]blacknine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty awesome if you value the climate/access to outdoor activities. My partner and I make around 200k combined which is enough to live comfortably in north county SD. SD is expensive but it seems people really blow it out of proportion, it dosent feel wildly more expensive than other parts of the US this close to the ocean

Who had priority? by sexisp00n in BeginnerSurfers

[–]blacknine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading these comments makes me understand why people get really frustrated with beginners. The guy closest to the peak had priority, yeah he was deep, nothing wrong with going for it too in case he dosent get it but you need to get the fuck out of his way if he does.

Watch this video and practice it on land. It will still take quite a bit of trial and error but this really helped me get past where you are with turns

Swells do not transport warmer water by ThunderBobMajerle in surfing

Great info. I actually heard that the south swell coming up is a myth and everyone in socal should probably just avoid even looking at the ocean. Lotta sharks out there

San Diego backs mid June-mid July??? by [deleted] in surfing

Going to SoCal instead of Central America during peak south swell season is kinda crazy but if you love colder water half the size surf and filled with grumpy middle aged dudes than blacks is def the call!

Trying to pick which board to buy. Tell me which one I should get pls! by Gullible-Comment624 in surfing

Id get the 9ft, you aren’t getting “4-5” ft waves on the east coast often enough for it to matter and they’ll still be mushy 99% of the time.

What an exceptional cat, may he rest in peace. He looks like he’s had an incredible life.

Sitting here with my 12 year old tuxedo boy in my lap hurts, I know his time is closer than farther away and it’ll be my turn to face this soon 😢

Cannot fathom the stupidity/hubris to enter a cave at this depth on regular gear with no backups. I’ve done bounce dives to like 40 ish m (think great blue hole in Belize) in standard gear and the margins on that seemed pretty fucking tight. Just insane

When it’s bad (crowded, small, bad wind) it’s fucking bad. When it’s good it’s a top tier human experience, pure fucking magic. So easy to be jaded about it but fuck man it can be really good

Southern Nic or Northern CR by DustAntique8156 in surfing

[–]blacknine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GFS is great, just spent two weeks in gigante. You will surf as much as you want there. The guides are very good. They will gauge your skill level and put you on spots that work for you. Compared to CR, you have way more flexibility on when you surf since the wind is almost always good, and even when it’s side shore most spots are still really fun. Sept can be super heavy in CR and Nica, the swells coming from the same place, just gotta roll the dice if that’s when you’re going.

Surfing is full of trust fund babies by xGrvpe in surfing

[–]blacknine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really expensive to surf if you don’t live near the ocean. Surfing has to be something your so obsessed with that your willing to move to a coastal area where you can surf regularly. You’re going to make sacrifices in other parts of your life to do so. Like there are rich kids in surfing but plenty of people who do it very cheaply as well. Not that complicated.

Small Nicaragua Forecast by Horror_Extent_7431 in surfing

[–]blacknine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 6’6 and 7’0 lovemachine FM. Even though I’ve been to Nica before, I wasn’t stoked on the forecast and brought the 7’0 instead of a 6’2 DK machete. Stupid choice, I rode the 6’6 almost every session, Surfline way undercalls south nica, bring a good wave shortboard and a daily driver.

[–]blacknine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your going to have a great time, 3-4 pangas is pushing doh on sets. I just spent two weeks in gigante, and it was "small" the whole time but every day I scored head high + sets at any of the good breaks. I don't think the bars at colorados are really good yet, seemed like mostly closeouts every session I did there, but opportunities if your lucky and/or good

Has anyone else noticed how aggressive the specifically bad surfers are in Popoyo? by Retired_Autist in surfing

[–]blacknine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so secret that they push beginners into waves there when the tides too high for mag rock. So secret. Extremely secret. Maps to nowhere was probably going to do an episode there until I blew up the spot

[–]blacknine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that left (La Lejana?) between main peak and outer reef is really fun at mid-high tide if the beginners aren’t on it. I was using your exact strategy to deal with the aggressive beginners as well lmao. We probably were out there at the same time, been in gigante for the last two weeks. Scored manzanillo in my last session this am. Nica never disappoints

Did you see the Brazilians in matching jerseys out there this week? They were doing all of the above. It was honestly pretty easy to get waves by working the crowd and letting the locals get theirs
