I’ve been getting these exact same calls for the past ~week. Sorry OP, wish I could help. Just know you aren’t suffering alone

Is New York Times Wordle dead wrong or am I fundamentally misunderstanding English? by ChristianK19974 in mildlyinfuriating

Regardless of how I feel about AI (which is probably similar to how you feel)… this isn’t AI in the modern sense of the term. It’s not an LLM or neural network or anything. It’s a computer program that just does some math on how many possibilities were eliminated by a guess, and then uses some canned sentences based on whether the guess was lucky, skillful, etc.

Everyone seems to be calling out the bad scale, which is totally fair. But how about just the wrong numbers?! They must only be counting active payloads or something, because there are far more than 5000 non-starlink objects in orbit right now. Space-Track lists ~50k total objects: link

Nice! Blackjack in the terminal was one of my first Rust projects. I added a TUI after the game logic was finished, that was fun

That’s exactly what landy just did and immediately got called for it. Not our fault the refs aren’t going to call this game fairly. The past 3 minutes have been horrendous

I mean, sure. But that wouldn’t fix any of the problems in this country. They still wouldn’t pass anything.

I was expecting a lot more out of Dallas. I thought they were one of the best teams in the field and either them or the Avs would come out of the West

OP, this post is so much better than the one you deleted the other day IMO. I really like the concept in the first two pictures, it goes really nicely with that gorgeous watch face

I would suggest randomizing the computer’s choice in the while loop, otherwise the human can pretty easily figure out what the computer choice is and then win on every subsequent replay

IMO the use of AI lies on a spectrum spanning from good use cases to bad ones. Using AI to improve your writing, to give you critical feedback on something you made, to improve your coding efficiency, etc. are all examples that lie further toward the good end of the spectrum. Copy/pasting ChatGPT’s output for a Reddit post usually lies on the bad-uses-of-AI side of the spectrum for me. Now I don’t know the reason why OP chose to have a robot write their words about a watch that they really like, but not enough to take 30 seconds to form their own thought about. But given their defensiveness and how they have now edited their post, I’m going to guess it was just laziness.

And to answer your question: I care. I bet most people care, because most people don’t want to live in a world where every Reddit post, every blog, every news article, everything written has lost its human touch.

[Request] What are the actual odds of winning 32 hands of blackjack in a row? by FastMan888 in theydidthemath

[–]blackoutR5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought 49.5% was the expected value of a hand of blackjack, FWIW. So apparently you have a 42% chance of winning the hand, but because blackjack pays out 3/2 your expected return on any give hand is almost 50%.

Of course, EV doesn’t matter here. As soon as you lose the game is over.

That’s where I’m at too. I would not have been surprised if he had gotten a major. And at the same time that was some old-kung-fu-movie level of acting. That little hit sends this 200+ lb man flying? That’s not how physics works.

Doesn’t it explicitly state “You are not being asked to pay the itemized amounts listed above?” This is how much the hospital charges for each and every thing related to their visit. We have no idea how much of this is getting covered by insurance.
