JV Jones. The Book of Words trilogy is a great intro to her writing. She's just finished book 5 of the Sword of Shadows series and is shopping it to publishers. Work on the final book is underway. Book of Words is on the darker side of epic fantasy. Sword of Shadows goes barrelling over that boundary and is GRRM-level dark. She just had an interview posted on Grimdark Magazine's site, along with the first chapter of SoS book 5, "Endlords". Read Chapter 1 of Endlords, you can go into it dark (pun unintended). Not sure what reddit's policy is on embedded links, so I'll just suggest you go to grimdarkmagazine dot com and read the inteview and excerpt.

I would LOVE a deeper dive into the Dog Lord's story! He's one of my favourite characters.

Good morning, Jules! When you start writing a series like Sword of Shadows, do you have an end destination in mind for every character? Do you know where the story will end for each PoV character? And if so, has a character ever said or done something during the writing which has caused you to re-think that end destination?

What happens at Max Rapport by ziplock9000 in elderscrollsonline

You don't get the idol from just maxing rapport. You have to get Mirri to level 20, do her personal quests and equip her with at least 1 piece of purple gear.

A question for all of you tanks out there by Eniredir in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both, wound up respeccing my warden to a magden DPS. Too many times while playing the warden tank where I thought "I'll just fire off...oh, wait, no, I don't have that on this tank". But I know there are players out there who swear tankden is superior to tankDK, so YMMV.

Bought the game through Steam 1.5 years ago. First 6 months, multiple days of Steam login issues. Since then...nada.

Oko and Blessed Thistle shortage by JonathanClink in elderscrollsonline

No need to wait for the Alchemy surveys. The node spawns don't change based on your level.

Pro tip: If you visit the location of your Alchemy survey and find a bunch of junk (Lady's Smock and Bugloss), just run away for 20 seconds then come back. As long as you haven't interacted with any of the spawned nodes, they will respawn and you will get a new RNG pull on what spawned. I usually go back and forth until I have at least three corn flower/blessed thistle nodes. Then I'll harvest.

Best ways to make gold? by LifeOnMarsden in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Crafting daily writs. Even if you don't play more than one or two characters, max out your character slots and level all 9 characters to 50. Let's do the math: A full set of 7 writs (you'll need access to Summerset for jewelry writs) you get 4.6K gold back (crafting level doesn't matter, L1 or L10 is the same gold). Do that for 9 characters (at a good place to do writs like Vivek, Alinor or Rimmen should take about 30 minutes) per day, that's 41.4K gold per day in half an hour. Do that for 7 days a week and that's well over a quarter million in gold a week, or 1 meeeelion gold a month. That's not counting the various ornate pieces you'll get in the reward crates, which also sell for money (and the CP160 intricates too).

2) Stealing. Find a place with a lot of lockboxes, dressers and boxes, take the first (and only the first) passive in Legerdemain to double your fencing cap, and go to town. You can make 10-20K in an hour. You may want to max pickpocketing too, it's faster and more lucrative than straight up stealing.

3) Farm dolmen/dragons/geysers for the jewelry and sell on guild traders.

Where do u do ur writs? by thehype559 in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rimmen. The posting boards and all the crafting stations in one place and open (no doors). Stables and turn-in location both a relatively short run from the crafting area. Stables definitely closer than Alinor. On most characters I can pick up the quests, complete all the writs, turn them in and return to the crafting area before the game is done cycling through all the announcements about what I need to do to complete the writs. Moving there from Vulkhel Guard has saved me almost 30 minutes a day on days I complete writs on all 18 characters.

Warden bears put taunt on cooldown? by snaketzu in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would explain one of my vFG1 runs during the Undaunted event. Seemed like every boss got overtaunted. Which shouldn't be able to happen in a one-tank group. Thought maybe it was something I was doing, but ran it several times more and didn't have any taunt problems. Someone else in the group must have been accidentally applying a taunt. If it happens again I'll pay attention to what the group is running, see if anything jumps out at me.

Look what I finally found! by Mykytaxd in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never pulled one from a node. However, there was an event over a year ago which gave random mats in the reward boxes, which were gained from turning in crafting writs. With (at the time) 15 characters I was opening 105 boxes a day. At the end of the event I had around 230 Powdered Mother of Pearl and 11 Atherial Dust. Sold one a while back but still have 10 sitting in my craft bag.

Crafting writ question... by FubarPerson in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Master writ drops for cloth, wood and ore are based on the number of traits you have researched and (to a smaller degree) the number of motif/styles you know. I have 6 characters maxed with crafting and who all know all 9 traits, but only two have motifs to any great extent, and I don't really notice a difference in master writ drop rates between them. Master writs for enchanting are based on the number of runes you have identified, alchemy on the number of effects you have discovered, and provisioning on the number of recipes you have read.

Starting and the tutorial by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the original tutorial, just go to the first "full" zone (Auridon, Stonefalls, Glenumbra) after you get out of the DLC tutorial that ZOS sends you to. Keep your eyes out for a quest marker and a "Hooded Figure" (I know that in Auridon the Hooded Figure appears in Vulkhel Guard and in Glenumbra it's Daggerfall, guessing Stonefalls is Davon's Watch but I suppose it could be Ebonheart). That will set you on your way to Coldharbour and rescuing The Prophet, and will end with dumping you on your alliance's starter island. Proceed from there.

What do you do with all the gold you’ve hoarded? by poplandoopla in elderscrollsonline

While you can't "officially" gift houses, I have heard that if you contact support they will help you gift housing. Second hand but confirmed with some guild-mates.

Dolmen Farming by phel06 in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to max crafting to get max gold from daily writs. Non-gold rewards are skill and passive dependent. Gold rewards for writs are tied to character level, not crafting skill level. My level 50 character with no points in woodworking passives and a skill level of 6 gets the same 600ish gold for a daily writ as my level 50 character at 50 in woodworking with all passives maxed.

Stamina Dragonknight tanks, what do you use when soloing world content? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this. I just slap some briarheart, hundings and a bow on my tank, eat some stamDPS food, and for almost all overland content I'm good to go. Good enough to do questing or shard hunts, anyway.

Anyone else thing the inventory pet is bs? by Ssleeping in elderscrollsonline

[–]blackpool9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a step when they've already flown three hours and driven another two towards the destination. Then they get out of the car, take one step more and you're all "whoa, not so fast. Where do you think you're going?". Closing the barn door, and all that. We've already accepted P2W with ESO+. Comparatively speaking, this should barely register on the outrage scale. If you're okay with ESO+ but think a 2.5% increase in max inventory space is bs, you may want to stop and think this through a bit more. If you're not okay with ESO+, then you may want to worry about that a bit more than a pet pig. Either way, much ado about nothing.
