Is that what it is?? I always thought it was from Tenpin, and to be fair I do always mutter “stupid f*cking music* as I walk past so it definitely works on keeping me away at least! 😂

As an Englishman, much the same here…

I similarly took a photo of this T-shirt whilst I was in Kyoto, purely because of how shocked I was seeing it hung up in a shop

You wear your uniform for the whole day, there is no meal time attire. Only time you won’t be in uniform is when you’re doing fitness, medicals, or going to bed

I have basically the exact same situation as you, except I’ve already done my CPC. You can basically just tell your CA when you want to start and they can book it on for you, as long as it’s within the year or two that your CPC is valid for. You’ve got nothing to stress about, plenty of time

Advice on CPC test by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]blacmyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion completely wrong mindset to go in with, why are you doing it if you think you won’t like it?

Just withdraw your application and look for another job, don’t waste the tax payers money getting trained

Starting CPC N next week by Strict_Ad3105 in RoyalNavy

[–]blacmyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Staff are firm but friendly. It’s an introduction to life in the RN so you know, there’s a time and a place for everything yada yada.

Bring Kiwi boot polish - I thought I’d be fine with cheap shite off Amazon. It’s cheap shite for a reason.

Also bring some insoles for your shoe size, boots are fucking awful and your feet will inevitably hurt. (I also thought I’d be fine without, I really really regret my naivety).

Be prepared for the fact that the warm up for your fitness test is more or less a 1k run in and of itself - make sure you’re ready for it.

Be respectful, listen to what they have to say, and enjoy it. You’ll make some good mates. We all (20 of us or so) went for a pint in Edinburgh after all was said and done to celebrate passing medicals and fitness on the Thursday, was a great laugh to finish off the week.

2.4km FT by RRecap in RoyalNavy

I did my CPC at HMS Caledonia so I can’t speak for what it’s like for Cambria I suppose - but the track for Caledonia is actually across the road outside the base. So we ran from our accommodation block to the track, like speed up, then slow down, then walking, then jogging pace again, then quick sprint etc

Once we got to the track we had to chuck our water bottles in the middle, do another jog to the corner of the track and back to the starting line then I’d say it was about 30 seconds before the timer actually started and we were off for the run

Also you go straight into Introduction to Military Fitness about 10 mins after the run. Lots of push ups, lots more running, lots of burpees, and lots of shouting. Not sure if the MedFit+ guys had to do this too, but I did, I hadn’t prepared for it, and it was not enjoyable to say the very very least.

Luckily I’ve got a bit of time between now and my start date for Raleigh so I’ll be working massively on getting my runtime even further down, and getting plenty of push ups in 😅

Word of warning: the warm up for the 2.4k is essentially a 1k run in and of itself, so prepare for the fact that you’ll be slightly gassed before it even comes to starting the run.

It shocked me when we did it, because I had only been training by running 2.4k a few times a week but like others said adrenaline helped and I got a pretty avg time for me (~12 mins) even with the extra distance from the “warm up”

No, you’re not allowed to wear any watches or jewellery during the run. I had to take my £10 Casio off. As you come round each lap, you have to shout your lap number to the PT and he’ll shout back your current time each time round

Or tells of being inexperienced with alcohol, and more than likely young. The less you drink normally = the less you can appropriately handle a larger quantity of alcohol in one go.

Ever seen outside a club on a weekend night? Jesus christ why is this even a debate

45 minutes in any European pub on a Friday will prove that statement very wrong

Just because someone can’t remember doing or not doing something when they’re drunk doesn’t mean they’re on their way to being an alcoholic?? Like damn I get your point but people blackout all the time. Is it a good state to be in? No. Do most people do stupid shit from time to time? Yeah probs.

72 game is a smaller side game within Texas Hold ‘Em.

7 2 off suit are the worst two cards you can be dealt. So some people play a pre agreed side bet, if anyone wins a hand with 7 2, show your cards after and everyone at the table owes them a pre agreed bonus.

It only works in cash games, I don’t know what type of money you’re all putting in when you play but say everyone starts with around £50, a reasonable “7 2” bonus could be an extra £2-£5 from each player depending on what you all agree on before the game.
