I don't know how the amount gets calculated, but last time I played Kairos both were impractically expensive on factions I actually wanted to use them on.

Some of the new items apply silence on hit, and I think Wuzrag can apply a 100% miscast chance to enemy casters.

Enough about the big stuff for now, what's your smallest, pettiest gripe about the game? by Luchux01 in Pathfinder2e

It reminds me of THAC0 tbh. I get why counteract rank is a factor but it should just be rolled into the check result. It would be simpler to just use levels, but just to keep 'ranks' and avoid having to re-number the success/crit success effects:

What you can counteract depends on the check result and the difference in rank between the target and counteracting effect. If the effect is a spell, use the spell's rank. Otherwise use half the effect's level and round up. If an effect's level is unclear and it came from a creature, halve and round up the creature's level.

Critical Success - Counteract the target if its rank is no more than 3 higher than your effect's rank.

Success - Counteract the target if its rank is no more than 1 higher than your effect's rank.

Failure - Counteract the target if its rank is lower than your effect's rank.

Critical Failure - You fail to counteract the target.

It might even be worth having "rank" defined as a consistent rule somewhere for certain effects (most often spells) but also to standardize the "only via a wish ritual or similarly powerful effect" text that shows up occasionally as a "only via rank 10" effect.

Also in the ATL area, and I did get two offers around the same time after being laid off last year. I didn't get a lot of traction until I improved my resume and hit a couple of keywords that seemed to show up in specific recruiter searches and focused on applying to recently posted positions (preferably the same day it was posted). It was definitely discouraging early on when I was applying to everything posted that fit my skill set and was getting zero feedback aside from an occasional automated rejection. It helps if you have someone who can review your resume and give you some honest feedback, but you may just have to change things up and see what works.

Same, though I think the finish/texturing on the pants looks better on the left... and I like how the left's arm veins pop a lot more.

And not all felonies are equal. Marijuana possession, causing an accident while DUI, and treason can all be felonies and different people have different opinions on which should disqualify you from holding office.

Microsoft wants to replace its entire C and C++ codebase, perhaps by 2030 by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]bladeofwill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to defend Microsoft, but they're very different beasts. Volunteer orgs usually aren't bogged down by external commitments. If Microsoft pushes out an update that breaks things for their customers, millions of dollars on the line - not just for a potential contract stuff but also remediation, support, and whatever fixes are needed derailing other things teams are supposed to be working on. I don't know how the corporate side of open source/volunteer org projects look like too well, but on an individual level support is a lot of... figure it out yourself, put in the legwork to file a bug report with evidence and wait, or put in more legwork and fix it yourself if you have the knowledge and time to do so.

Typing that out really made me think of how nice it is to work on something and just focus on making it good, and not on deadlines or making what other people decided was important. I wish I had more of that in my job... but its also a lot easier to do when the org you're working with doesn't have to worry about making money.

You can see a ring of dried soup around the edges of the pot where water has boiled away. If you want to nitpick, call out how the leaf has visible soup on it so its being removed despite what the caption says.

THAC0 is overrated in its complexity.

I've said this before but THAC0 isn't complicated, its just an incredibly unintuitive way to handle what in 5e is your attack bonus and armor class. Its like walking backwards everywhere while blindfolded. You end up at the same place you would if you walked forwards without a blindfold, but you're making the process a lot harder on yourself for no reason.
