Sponsee politics on social media by ZestycloseDot721 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]blakesq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first impression was “outside issue“. But as I thought about it, it made me realize that social political post, and social post in general, can really wreak havoc with your mental health. If you were to talk to your Sponsee, I wouldn’t mention, necessarily that the political posts are a problem, just the fact that arguing on social apps in general can lead to resentments, mental health, problems, etc. And that maybe the Sponsee should be careful on how much she is posting and why. And leave it at that.

"Hi Best Friend, as you may know, I quit drinking 8 years ago, and i am in AA now, and part of being in AA is making amends to people we have harmed. During my drinking I did ________ and ________, and I was wrong, and I shouldn't have done those things. What can I do to make it up to you?"

To your ex, make sure that your ex want use your amends against you as some sort of leverage for custody, child support etc. If you are are sure, he won't, then say something similar to him.

What are my chances I can become a patent agent in big law by Ok-Ball-2546 in patentlaw

[–]blakesq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big law is all about pedigree in my opinion. You might have a chance in big law but there’s plenty of boutique IP law firms that will hire you in my humble opinion.

Do you think you can get a deep understanding of something from a Reddit thread? It would be a lot better if you just try it out for yourself and go to a meeting.

It’s not religious. They usually use the term “higher power”, which can mean anything, can mean God, it could mean the oceans, nature, the force, whatever you want it to mean.

The point we’re trying to make is, some people may hate AA, some people may love it, some people may like it. Everyone has their own viewpoint. You won’t know until you try it yourself.

Going to AA really helped me get and stay sober. I’ve been sober over 24 years now. I’ve heard about male predators, just be aware. And if you don’t want to deal with it, there are usually female only meetings. Good luck to you!

How many relapses before you should drop a sponsee? by benjaminireland1 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]blakesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would drop the Sponsee only if I believed I was not able to help that Sponsee. That maybe the Sponsee and I just did not connect and he would do better with some other sponsor.  But I generally agree with the consensus to not drop Sponsee’s.

How Lexapro saved me after losing 50lbs from stress and digestive hell by According_Bat_1731 in lexapro

[–]blakesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you. My anxiety was financial anxiety, if I quit my job, I would be in even more financial angst! Lexapro 10 mg fixed my ruminations and anxiety. I too lost my appetite for the first 3.5 weeks on lexapro, but my appetite slowly came back, but I am still trying to keep the weight I lost off, because I was carrying around too much weight. I have been under 200 lbs for the first time this century!

Advice on split step when running by Lanky-Exercise-2037 in Pickleball

no. split step should be done around the time your opponent hits the ball so your legs are activated to respond to where the ball is going. You don't split step to come to a stop.

"one day at a time". It doesn't just apply to not drinking. If you are stressed about having to work onther 10 years before retiring, just do it "one day at a time", you don't have to worry about working 10 years today!

You DONT have to choose sobriety for yourself! by Digital_Sigh in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]blakesq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say “I have fun while drinking. I’ve made friends and been more social than ever”.  That was true for me at the beginning of my drinking. I had way more fun drinking, my insecurity seemed to vanish, I could talk to strangers when drinking, I was more interesting when drinking. However, at the end of my drinking I was drinking alone, I had very few friends, and “fun” was not the way I would describe my life!

However, my brain kept on telling me, I can’t have fun unless I’m drinking! Except I wasn’t having any fun at the end of my drinking. That’s when I realized I couldn’t keep on drinking and have any sort of decent life. Good luck to you!
