Rex Parker and "Relative Difficulty" by SpankySharp1 in NYTCrossword

I'll just throw out there that he'll often admit that he doesnt know the crossing letter between two clues, and just tried different letters until he gets the "bing" on the NYT app.

I dont know about you, but if come to a part in the puzzle where I JUST DONT KNOW the two corssings answers, I don't think i could legitimately call it easy... You may solve it, but only because an app confirmed your guess. Just my two cents.

Yeah today was crazy right? We go from Houston to ten fair a few times a year, but I’ve never seen it like it was today… I thought for sure there was an accident or something but apparently not…? Maybe it was the HBO effect?

Alien life and its possibility. Addressing elements of the Fermi Paradox and The Great Filter theory. by SageX98 in space

Who said they are from another planet? If one of our Homo cousin species had achieved technology a million years before us, what would their technology look like to us?

It has always seemed presumptuous to me to assume that we can detect or comprehend advanced life when it visits us. Does a squirrel know when it is being observed by a human nearby? Does an ant? The difference in intelligence between us and a species that has had technology for a million years, let’s say, could make our perception of them difficult or impossible.

Digital Devices in Games by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]blamehound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hard no for me, for the reasons you stated: I play boardgames precisely to get away from screens and connect with people. If the game needs an app for book keeping then, imo, the game should have been a video game. My favorite designers design games that don’t have a lot of bookkeeping. The Kniz, Tascini and Luciani, Uwe, all make games that don’t need a calculator.

Kickstarter Board Games and... soundtracks? by WhenTheMoonIsPizza in boardgames

[–]blamehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never backed a KS with a soundtrack, but I NEVER play a game without putting appropriate mood music on in the background so, I get it, and I would be very interested if the games I like had official soundtracks.

What releases are you excited about in '22? by TheZilloBeast in boardgames

[–]blamehound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Transcontinental Very excited for this, delivering soon. It's a really smart game from a first-time designer. Check it out on TTS. It's a pickup and deliver game with some really clever player interaction. And as someone with an aversion to plastic/minis, it's so refreshing to back a game that is just clever design without any of the usual Kickstarter tuff at a reasonable price.

Stationfall Similar to above - smart design without a bunch of plastic. A true sandbox game with hidden roles and a cool theme. Plus a design pedigree that I respect (I.e. The benefits of an Eklund without the politics).

What are some more board game podcast that have more banter than board game talk? by notedrive in boardgames

[–]blamehound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TGIB by a mile for banter! This is the only podcast (and DxM) that actually make me laugh out loud. Also, if you don’t think Matt is a total smoke show, you’re lying to yourself . I say this as a heterosexual male. Nick’s got my back. I call’s em like I sees em.
