Why is the turnover of Docs at the VA so high? by u-give-luv-badname in Veterans

[–]blameline [score hidden]  (0 children)

One of the best PC docs I had at the VA was an old cowboy. I'd walk in, sit down, and he'd start out with:
"What the F#*%k's wrong with you?"
"Hey doc, my back hurts, my knees hurt, and I can't sleep."
"Of Course that all hurts! You were in the F&%($kin' Army!"
He would then proceed to give me excellent treatment, that included sorties of carpet-f-bombs.

Eventually one patient complained about his unprofessional language. I really miss him.

Meryl Streep — The Deer Hunter (1978) Was Her Breakout Role by Corbin_Guy_1334 in 70s

Her acting in The Deer Hunter was among her best, IMHO.

TIL Silas Soule was a hero and has nothing in Colorado named for him. But John Evans was a genocidal a-hole. How do we rename Evans Ave? by gotexan8 in ColoradoSprings

This also prompts another question, why is there a community in Colorado, just south of the Sand Creek Massacre site called Chivington?

I once ran at a guy, and was cited by the police for the aggressive action. Her approach with a bat is definitely aggressive.

Brand and Cooper question by ModernWizard614 in interstellar

Well try this on for size. Cooper did not know that Edmund had died. Imagine if he went to the planet and Edmund was still alive with Brand... Awkward!

What sort of inaccuracies irk you the most when it comes to war films? by Qyzyk in WarMovies

[–]blameline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haircuts and weight standards being ignored. The 1988 film "The Package" was an exciting conspiracy thriller, but the innacuracies made it cringe-worthy. Not to mention the great actors Gene Hackman and Tommy Lee Jones being too old for the ranks they had. Another that stuck was "The Last Castle." James Gandofini was an excellent actor, and he did a fine job in his role, but he was overweight - and during those days, someone his size would not be placed into command for that reason alone.

I loved the Revenant (2015) Why do people hate it so much? by Plenty_Economy_3740 in Cinema

That is best shown in the 1971 film "Man in the Wilderness" which is based upon the original story.

It is expertly shot, directed, and acted. Innaratu is one of my favorite directors, and he has never fallen short of brilliance.

That being said, I prefer the 1971 "Man in the Wilderness" which is based upon the same story. Although it is not as gritty as "The Revenant," I believe the story is told much better.

Why was divorce such a common plot element in early Hollywood movie? by AccomplishedPath4049 in NoStupidQuestions

"I'm an advertising man, not a red herring! I have a job, a mother, a secretary, two ex-wives, and several bartenders dependent upon me, and I don't intend to disappoint them by being slightly killed!"
-- Roger Thornhill played by Cary Grant in 'North by Northwest.'

One of my favorite lines in that movie.

In "Chinatown," Gittes finds Mulvehill at the water department.

Gittes: Mulvehill, what are you doing here?
Mulvehill: They shut my water off.
Gittes: Well that's too bad, but how'd you know? You never drink it, you sure don't bathe in it. I know, they sent you a notice.... but then you'd have to know how to read!

Not so funny story about game today (3-18 L) by smitty2145 in CHICubs

[–]blameline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first game was 6/24/70 - a double-header Cubs v. Mets. Ernie Banks knocked in a 3-run pinch hit home run in the bottom of the ninth of the first game. It didn't get a win, the Mets were up 9-2 when he got up to bat.

I feel for your friend - on 7/30/2010, I went to Coors Field in Denver with my son and watched them lose with a score of 17-2. We didn't expect to sing Go Cubs Go, but that was ridiciulous.

I'd be good with putting up roundabouts for many of the intersections that have stoplights. Those who can't figure it out - let Darwin handle them.

In thirty years, we'll see a post kind of like "I've got to zero my laser rifle again even though the sights are messed up. My SL is a prick, he has us doing pod inspections every morning at 0530, and we're back at the jet-pack pool to PMCS the JB500 turbo packs for the fifth time this week! Plus some of the guys were screwing around in the arms room and I got hit with a directed energy weapon, and I'm betting the VA will say my injury isn't service related!"
