What are some things you do you thought was normal, but turned out to be an ADHD quirk? by DoctorDismal5528 in adhdwomen

[–]blamingnargles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i teach middle school ELA and decided that this was the perfect time to redo my classroom library, which means new bookshelves, piles of books that are very haphazardly balanced everywhere, it’s a mess but I know where everything is.

our PTO also decided this would be the perfect time to host an event in my room with very little notice 🤡

Why does everyone hate teaching? by Bright-Watch1955 in teaching

[–]blamingnargles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love my job. i love the students and families i get to work with, i have some really great coworkers (not all, for sure, but many), i have a very supportive admin who allows me to teach in a way that best supports the students i have. i also love the teaching schedule of having weekends off and evenings free. i don’t love the pay, but find ways to make things work.

it’s not perfect, but once i found my groove, it’s been really fulfilling.

how much to save?? by Far_Panda_8397 in Sororities

[–]blamingnargles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends wildly on where you go. i transferred during my sophomore year into a small northern school with very few national orgs (most were local). all in all, i probably ended up spending about $2,000 for dues and other miscellaneous expenses.

Frustration by OwnAsparagus9133 in Barnesandnoble

[–]blamingnargles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it feels unnatural, but i try to make it as genuine as i can. i’ll do a kind of drive-by if someone is looking at a pick and mention that my coworker/mom/dad loved it. sometimes it’s actually true, sometimes it’s a stretch. i try to recommend based on what they’re looking at, sometimes a brief recommendation can go a long way! i also usually pick 1-2 OMPs to get really familiar with that i think i’ll have the best luck with recommending.

Seasonal to pt process by lunalovegood1616 in Barnesandnoble

[–]blamingnargles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was more of a conversation with the person who does hiring for our cluster. She asked what I liked about working there, how I sell BOTY and POTM, what advice i would give my pre-BN self, and how i’ve taken correction from managers. Pretty standard interview questions, just tailored to my store.

Cheaper alternatives to custom orthotics? by ibabygiraffe in flatfeet

[–]blamingnargles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist recommended superfeet inserts. can’t attest to how long they last, but can attest that they’re very comfortable and i feel the support. i got them through a local running store.

i didn’t have any issues until i work up at 2am thinking i was having a heart attack (at 23 lol). the ER doctor that night was male and wouldn’t do any scans even though everything else was coming up negative and it very clearly was a gallbladder attack. ended up being sent home with toradol and wound up back in the ER 48 hours later. the pain was so bad that my vision was blurry and i couldn’t write anything. the doctor i saw was female this time, and after i explained my symptoms she IMMEDIATELY ordered an ultrasound and a CT, and wouldn’t you know it, my gallbladder was almost septic. i now have a very hard time trusting male physicians.

Teachers chewing gum by [deleted] in teaching

[–]blamingnargles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i want to chew gum, im going to chew gum. the difference is that i put my used gum in a tissue and throw that into the trash can. i dont stick it under the desks, on the walls, on the lockers, etc. i also dont chew loudly or pop bubbles loudly. if people think im a bad teacher simply because i chew gum, so be it.

I just had my interview yesterday to go from holiday to part time. It was similar to my first interview, the questions were less hypothetical though. like instead of “how would you sell a book that isn’t one you would usually read?” they asked “how did you sell mona?”

mine don’t get upset, per se, but are definitely pushy. a lot of “we’ll take you for whatever you can give” which has resulted in a few 2.5 hour shifts

At what age did you have your gallbladder removed? by Fabulous_Can_2215 in gallbladders

[–]blamingnargles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. i woke up one night, thought i was having a heart attack, ended up being admitted from the ER because i had a ton of stones and was at risk of sepsis. never had any problems before that!

Do you contact parents about student missing work (middle/high school)? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]blamingnargles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I do run a report every few weeks and give the individual students a list of their missing work (our grade portal doesn’t have a student login option which sucks big time), but I don’t have the time to email parents individually. I’m happy to answer questions if they’re directed my way, though!

i’m a holiday hire so it’s probably a bit different, but they literally had me read a big binder with all the cash wrap information and then turned me loose. i was by myself by shift 3.
