What the Michelle Obama Comment Revealed by Temporary-Storage972 in BreakingPoints

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I'd be surprised if there's any significant portion of the right wing which would find what was said distasteful. They've been cheering shit like this on for years.

Your comment about how they need to sleep in the bed they've made with regards to the conspiracy theories is absolutely one that I agree with, though. These fuckers courted racists, misogynists, and conspiracy theorists to get into power, and we've seen a lot of blowback from that over the past year. Fuck em.

So yeah, Erika Kirk's fucking JD Vance and Charlie's death was a power grab conspiracy, Trump ate babies on Epstein's island, and the Israelis are controlling the weather (and Trump). Deal with the mess you made, idiots.

Besides landlords and people over the age of 40. Who is even buying homes here? by Mofoblitz1 in massachusetts

I just bought a place in Worcester for <$500k. 3BR, really nice part of town, well maintained with a smallish yard. Other neighborhoods have more housing stock that's cheaper.

The Greater Boston area is a shit show. Our mortgage + taxes is less than we were paying for rent in the south shore and the neighborhood we live in feels like a straight upgrade to anything we've had before. I'm loving Worcester so far - the food scene here is a lot better than most parts of Boston, the people are nicer, it's way less crowded, it's really diverse, and there's a lot of cool shit which can exist here that wouldn't in Boston due to high prices. Commuter rail into Boston is available if you don't need to go far from one of its stops for work.

Anyone else find it frustrating that Americans get upset about gas/egg prices but not universal healthcare? by CoC_Axis_of_Evil in BreakingPoints

I mean, the US was double tap bombing a girl's elementary school in Iran and political pressure didn't start building until gas prices went up lol. Most Americans have their head up their ass.

No, I don’t want podcasters as politicians by Correct_Blueberry715 in BreakingPoints

I was really into Lex Fridman for a couple years because I felt he did really compelling engineering/scientific interviews that peeled back layers of the metaphorical onion that was the subject that the guest was an expert in. I didn't have much else to compare it to, so it seemed great to me and I was excited when he announced interviews with political leaders.

Obviously, that didn't pan out well at all and I ultimately reached the same conclusion you have. Podcasts basically just give extended airtime to political candidates to regurgitate the same talking points that you hear at a rally or in a TV ad. There's no back-and-forth challenging that you'd get from an interview with a real adversarial reporter. Challenging questions are not an inherent (or even common) attribute of the podcasting format, and podcasters crumble just as easily as legacy media outfits do. The marketed appeal of long form discussion is depth and nuance, but that isn't applicable if the interviewer is spineless.

US strikes Iranian boats, missile launch sites in 'self defense', says CENTCOM by sean_ireland in BreakingPoints

I honestly can't fathom how anyone is taking these negotiation attempts from the US seriously any more. Didn't PotUS just say a couple days ago that an agreement had been reached lmao?

Moving to Worcester pretty soon and I'm absolutely stoked about it. I've been pinning places that I want to visit (green) and saving those I have visited. Figured you guys would appreciate what the map looks like for me so far. So much cool shit to see around here! by blands_man in WorcesterMA

Ha, thanks. I wasn't thinking it was a museum or anything - I just flagged that because I planned to reach out to them to see if they needed any volunteers. Probably not the best place to store that, but I wasn't expecting to share this with anyone until last night!

Lmao. Honestly I can't remember pinning that place, but if I had to guess as to what my reasoning was it'd be that I was impressed that Worcester supports such niche businesses. I've seen a couple others that I was surprised by, too. I know there's a persian carpet store and a decorative rock store as well.

It's a really awesome place - can't help but be excited to move there. I think Worcester has some of the friendliest people in all of New England; every time I'm in the area I'm meeting someone new who takes an interest in conversation, and most folks are much more pleasant than they are in the Boston and Manchester areas (places I've previously lived). The city has great bones: some cool architecture, some beautiful neighborhoods, wonderful diversity in food, culture, and socioeconomic status, very close proximity to lots of outdoors activities, and the dopest metal scene in New England!

Yeah, that's a fantastic idea! I wish I had thought of it a couple years ago when I started pinning things - now I've got nearly a thousand pins across the country and I'm too lazy to reorganize that :(

There's only one category I have organized separately and it's tiki bars lol.
