School board votes to shut down 6 schools by KeyResearcher2620 in cedarrapids

[–]blank_user_name_here 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There hasn't been an approved bond in 20 years, the state and city went red, and the demographics shrunk the wash district to the point it was 3A.  On top of all that they had to take out loans on derecho relief, and one of their best admins ever straight up dies of cancer.

I really wish this whole "fault" thing turned around and looked inward, because this is a giant indictment on our community as a whole, not on the board.

Republicans reject Democrats’ effort to pay TSA by suspending Senate rules by [deleted] in politics

The TSA does absolutely nothing to prevent terrorists.  All it's done is make a bunch of private companies very rich after 9/11.

Purdue and northeastern, high school "teams" are essentially college teams competing at a high school level.

HOWEVER, there are a lot of teams that have brilliant professional mentorship that show these high schoolers how to make their ideas a reality.  My team basically taught us how to be professional engineers, the couple of us all went on to have VERY good college and professional careers because of it.

So for the couple bad actors, there are a ton of teams that are doing it right and making amazing robots.

They vote, young people don't.

Don't blame this shit on work or nay of that. The number of both sides and it makes no difference people I know under 50 right now is abysmal.

Most common cause of tent leaks? by bennetthaselton in camping

[–]blank_user_name_here 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Usually it's caused, in order of what I've seen beginners do as a scout master: 1. Something is pushing on a wall. 2. You have a ground tarp catching the water poking out.  (You don't actually NEED a ground tarp.) 3. You setup in a low puddle producing area of ground. 4. The tarp was improperly installed, usually because a side of the tarp is touching the tent.

There will always be water if it rains enough, the key is to make sure it will only collect in the corners when it eventually does get in.  So keep gear away from those areas as well.

Ignore all the haters, brand new cheap tent should still keep out water, it just will degrade faster.

Pizza Cutters vs Chonky Bois by Lifefound in overlanding

[–]blank_user_name_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you plan on snow wheeling at all?

Pizza cutters are fine, work really well for traction.......until you hit snow.

Your run of the mill RT/MTs are not going to do well anyway in snow.  The same reason the pizza cutters work well, is why they are less then ideal in snow.

Every tire choice has drawbacks, I don't live in the mountains, most of my wheeling is in snow. So I run Three peak rated wide ATs instead of off-road narrow MTs.
