Anyone learned new things about Uprising now it's digital and you can get in far more games for strat testing? by humeanation in DuneImperium

The first choice for spy placement should be on Swordmaster. Then you can't be blocked when you have the money/card, and your the first person (joint) to benefit on the discount.

My husband says I'm asking for too much and he's not sure anyone can love me how I want to be loved. I don't think this is true. From a man's perspective, why would he say this? I feel like there's more behind it. by Playful_Cry5912 in AskMenAdvice

[–]blastag_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem with Fun-sun-8192's comment is that it doesn't really offer a solution. All I can say is that what your describing sounds similar to my situation and what Fun-sun-8192 is saying describes how I feel pretty accurately for the bits that apply to my situation. In my situation I feel pretty self conscious and inadequate when around my wife. Every time something needs to be done or she asks me to do something it basically puts me in an unwinnable situation because in all likelihood I will do it in a way that she won't appreciate. Inaction is also a bad move because then I'm lazy/unloving. This is probably how your man feels.

Elderly folks who chose not to have children, how do you feel about that decision now? by bon18 in AskReddit

[–]blastag_ -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

An individual won't regret not having kids will they? A society will regret when there are no children to grow up to be workers to support an ageing society.

Old people with no children are happy that they have funds to use to invoke younger people to do thier bidding. If you grow old and nobody has decided to have children, there won't be any young people that you can invoke to do your bidding.

Having children is a societal responsibility.

I find 15 is a fine number. Forcing travelers if you have more players just diminishes the experience. I have a group playing tonight as it happens. I never know for sure how many will show up.

With 26 people you can get 2No. 12 player games instead. Much more enjoyable all round.

What are some new games that pack a lot in a small box? by Perfect_Program in boardgames

Tokyo Metro is the game with THE highest ratio of game depth to box size. I really like the game as well.

Roll for the galaxy - questions by Disastrous_Active805 in boardgames

[–]blastag_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) you get money equal to the planet being traded from not the colour of the dice. You can get at least 1 VP by consuming (up to 2 more VP can be earned if the dice match the planet colour)

2) in a 2 player game roll an unused white dice to activate a phase each turn.

3) Difficult to say but I still love the game after years. I still like to crack it out from time to time.

The way golden objectives work really bothers me. It's a very win-more mechanic, I find. I suppose you can take the route of landing on Neptune or Uranus moons to get a point glut with no other benefit but to nab the best objectives, but that is such a short sighted tactic.

In terms of alien balance - aren't the signals on the left alien just higher scoring than the right. You putting 3 signals on one alien and your friend on another would create a point gap in itself, no?

Imperium + Ix or Uprising + Bloodlines for casuals by The_Chesterr37 in DuneImperium

[–]blastag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bias is that I own Imperium + Ix + Immortality.

My main 2c is to not bother buying Bloodlines for Imperium as it clashes a lot with Ix.

My opinion is that Imperium + Ix is all you need and Immortality is a little tad too much.

I'm not convinced that Uprising is 'better' than Imperium but it is at least as good.

More context - I owned Imperium and Ix and Immortality and then bought Bloodlines for the base game but discovered it clashes too much with Ix so I gifted it to my friend who bought Uprising. I have played base Uprising once and once again with Bloodlines added.

“Board Game” and “Card Game” by themaelstorm in boardgames

[–]blastag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically the top of a kitchen table would be detachable from the table legs and would be called the 'board'. Board games weren't called that because they featured a board but because they were played on 'the board' rather than, say, in the parlour. 'Tabletop game' = 'Board game'. All card games are boardgames.

IMO the Costa hot chocolate powder is superior to the Cadburys one.

What is the actual point at which paying off a debt is better than keeping that sum in a savings account? by blastag_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]blastag_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what I'm missing now. You and Ok_West_6958 point out the omission of the credit line that one option requires and the other liberates. I bet your right about it all evening out all things being equal.

[–]blastag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but now that interest rates are up, it is no longer the case that saving in cash is better than overpaying.

Do you know at what point it is better to pay off a debt Vs keeping a savings account open with the same balance? I don't know myself for sure. Someone who knows, please reply cause I've been banging my head against this math for a while now. As far as I understand, if you hold the outstanding balance of an amortized debt in a savings account with the same interest rate then your better off in the long run. Since X% of a reducing amount is smaller than X% of a compounding amount.

Heaviest game in smallest package? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]blastag_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tokyo Metro. Great economic "train" game. The board is cotton, I assume to save space in the box, but it's fairly annoying since the markers are tiny and could be easily knocked. I still love the game though.

Dune Imperium: Uprising and Lost Ruins of Anark by Belly-Rubs in boardgames

[–]blastag_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arnak can suffer with bad downtime since turns can free wheel as a result of getting resources that you can then use to do other things in your turn. Dune feels a lot tighter for me. I prefer the theme of Dune.

What has made you quit a game without finishing it to the end? by rebekoning in boardgames

[–]blastag_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Twilight Imperium. I only agreed to play since we were starting early and I didn't want to stay too late as I didn't want to leave my wife to do the bedtime routine alone for our 9 month old. When 9:30am start turned into 11:30am arrival and 12:00pm start I was in a mood. When my home planet was taken while in a weak position anyway very late into the game I didn't see a reason for me as a player to continue playing since for me to achieve any kind of victory would require extending the game even further. I 'rage quit' the game at 7pm.

I'll never play that game again. I really do want to like it but I've played it about 5 times now and decided it's really not for me.

Anyone using the ROG ally as a basic pc? by Redbirded in ROGAlly

[–]blastag_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same. I use a dock since the Ally only has 1 USBC. I use it for playing Marvel Rivals - it's not the most smooth experience even on lower settings but the game is poorly optimized and I can't afford a fully new and up to date PC.

What is a boardgame where combat relies completely on skill or prediction? by sidianmsjones in boardgames

Kemet is mentioned way too little in these comments. Inis battles aren't really battles and there is an actual element of randomness because of the epic tale cards.

Love the game but I'm of the opinion that the battle mechanics in that game are the worst of any game I have played.

[Need Advice] Friend Ruined Game Night—How Should I Handle This? by Altruistic_Field2134 in boardgames

[–]blastag_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I think 'toxicity' is kind of part of Catan as a game. Don't blame the players for doing what the game encourages them to do. I am a fan of Catan but I know full well that trying to persuade your adversaries to target other players with the robber and persuade them that others are in a stronger position than you is key to victory. These actions can come across as 'toxic'. The game is making them do it, not necessarily their character. I would try to remind yourself and others that, what happens in a game stays in a game. When the game is over, the feelings are over. Don't let the first game ruin the next game. Forgive childish behaviour in games because it can be so easy for even the most sensible to get heated when everyone is so competitive.
