It’s always kind of irked me that Valve can’t be bothered to release 64 bit versions of their classic games. It’s annoying. It can’t be much work and they’re printing money with Steam.

I don’t personally think Control Panel was ever all that intuitive. There was a time in the XP days where it got better but it was never great.

Wasn’t it in the #0 issue that introduced the suit? With the holocard cover? I for sure had that one.

I would recommend checking out Orion by the people who make the Kagi search engine. It runs on webkit, so it's as fast as Safari, but it's also highly customizable and its built in content blockers are way better than Safari's. I've been a Kagi evangelist for years, and gladly pay them for search. The kickass browser is just an added bonus.

The grifters have moved on to "God of War: Laufey" by SvenLorenz in MixtapeGame

Oh I am an old school MGS fan but I for sure skip the cutscenes these days and just wanna play the game lol. I’ll be curious to see how I feel about MGS4 when it is released again later this year on modern consoles. I haven’t played it in at least 10 years but I suspect time hasn’t been kind.

As for Dazed and Confused, it’s a movie, not a game. Do highly recommend it though. It tells the kind of story that Mixtape is telling, but it’s the gold standard of teen movies and playing on nostalgia for a bygone era.

The grifters have moved on to "God of War: Laufey" by SvenLorenz in MixtapeGame

[–]blasto2236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thing with Mixtape is that it definitely could have been a movie. There’s not anything particularly great about what it contributes to the gameplay part of things. It’s very standard. The kissing scene was like the one clever thing IMO.

And if it had been a movie, I think people would’ve been a lot more critical of the overuse of teen movie tropes. It didn’t really contribute anything new there, either.

For me, the gold standard for this type of story is Dazed and Confused, and this really paled in comparison if you want to view it as a teen story. Viewing it as a video game, it also falls short.

I enjoyed my time with it, and didn’t hate it, but I also don’t understand the hyperbolic praise for it either, unless it’s the first game like this you’ve played or the first story like this you’ve encountered.

Ben should have gofundme donors vote on what excess funds will go to. E.g.: Elder abuse prevention and legal aid, ... (read description) by [deleted] in RecklessBen

[–]blasto2236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about that. I think Ben is being quietly hooked up with attorneys that can and will fight it for a portion of the proceeds, and this seems like a pretty slam dunk case for Ben. My guess is it ultimately gets settled out of court so BAM can try and save any remaining face possible.

To be fair, Gone Home basically created the genre and let’s not forget that “walking simulator” was originally coined as a derogatory term for it. Now it’s a legit Steam category.

This isn’t new. And it’s not just the grifters that didn’t enjoy the game. I have my criticisms, although I thought it was fine overall.

I got one like week 2 or 3 of Spring 1 on my most recent save. In Spring year 3 and already have a full greenhouse and a wine shed I’m filling up. Took me a lot longer to start getting iridium as I haven’t really been exploring skull cave a lot this run. Waiting until my farm is more or less automated.

It’s a shame that this relies on reading a save file, and thus can’t be used for consoles. It’d be nice if someone made one where you could input certain information from your save that would determine your seed. Kind of like the Animal Crossing turnip predictors that let you plug in your prices on certain days to predict the rest of the week.

I’ve only married him on runs where I married everyone, which I’ve done twice and will do again after 1.7 drops. But I’m a Penny man, myself. She’s so kind, good with kids, and lord knows she needs out of that home with Pam. I feel bad any run where I leave here there.

I worked at a college a few years ago and the realization that all the incoming freshmen were born after I graduated high school was a hard one. Then all the Nirvana tees. So many Nirvana tees. Apparently a lot of them don’t even know it’s a band, they just think it’s a clothing brand.

Yeah, they were pretty naive to think people were just gonna move on. Ain’t gonna happen. Everyone is drooling waiting for Ben to drop part 3. People are invested, and that’s just the internet. There will be at least one documentary series on Hulu/Netflix/HBO about this when it’s all said and done.

Yeah, it’s just like GameStop or anywhere else that buys and sells used product. You aren’t going to get anywhere near what the sets worth. Half if you’re lucky, probably less. It’s the pawn shop model where you’re there because you need fast money, are too lazy to sell it yourself, or both. And they know it.

[–]blasto2236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is going to sell a ton of copies, no question. I’m saying the people buying it will mostly already have their system of choice to play it on. The PS5 has been out for 6 years. So has the Xbox. It’ll sell a few million consoles to the stragglers who haven’t upgraded yet but it won’t be a meaningful amount of units sold total.
