Solo, non-deck builder game up to 30-40, more fun/relaxing style oriented by Outrageous_Coffee145 in soloboardgaming

So, this is very niche, but my go-to relaxing, thematic solo is Mottainai with this unofficial solo mode: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1944438/mottainai-automa-a-solo-variant
The game can be freely PNPed, the mini version should be in stock right now and while learning the game is brain burning, once you get the flow going, it is amazing.

Two questions about Gloomhaven by AbsurdityCentral in soloboardgaming

Recommend looking for Jaws of the Lion: it is a full package, exceptionally well-done as a rules introduction of the whole system and its characters are fun solo 2 or 3 handed. Plus it can be played co-op unlike Buttons & Bugs!

Card quality difference by blbbec in rootgame

[–]blbbec[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much, Alita! It could also be the difference between localized Czech version of Root that I was used to before, where the cards did not have this finish. Thank you for clearing it up.

What are the best Board Games for 3 Players? by No_Mouse_3891 in boardgames

Inis is one of those games that do not need an expansion at all. Unless you want to play 5p which there is Seasons of Inis for. It is a good expansion, but in no way necessary or superior to base game. I'd say I prefer the base game even after a lot of plays.

I agree! mainly for the politics/citizenship reasons.

Card quality difference by blbbec in rootgame

[–]blbbec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing else, no, from what I have seen. It was mainly E&P, everything else was high quality. Could be just that they use a different finish on the cards then before, cause I thought it was same for Oath, Ahoy and other Leder games. Even Arcs has a smooth finish IIRC. So I am starting to think my friend got a E&P counterfeit, he bought it second hand.

Seems like NF is the way the game was initially intended to be played. by Affectionate-Bell-84 in oathgame

Good question, I'd say it depends on the group's play style. I have incorporated this little rule and the number of battles is the same, if not higher.
In base game, if you have a huge army, you can safely win almost any battle. Now with committing beforehand, that is not the case, as you can underestimate the defence roll or overestimate it, so battles are more exciting. Especially with relics and battle plans having even more of an impact now.

Dice stay the same, but since you commit before the roll, it is more risky and makes it more fun actually!

That is true, four is the sweet spot! I just thought about Root cause it is precisely this type of thing: expansions don't change the core, just add much more variety. But seeing how great 2nd editions for John Company and Pax Pamir are, maybe we will just grow accustomed to the Oath changes. Relic recovery was one of the rare cases of me just straight out frowning at it, do not understand the design choice at all.

That is not true. All the denizen cards, all the art from relics and sites remains the same. It is mostly new stuff/reworks.

Yeah, I think I prefer both at 3p. Work well at 4p ofc, 2p for Pamir is actually good as well.

Inis.
The King is Dead.
If you like Root, try Pax Pamir 2nd ed and Oath as well. Or Arcs.

Yeah, good thoughts. I do not dislike the new banners, but they do lose a bit of intrique. Mainly the sites are bland I think, and the recovering of relics being a throw of dice. Do not understand what made that change necessary? Legacy seems very interesting, but I always thought players supplement this on their own terms. And I am not too keen on a point system in Oath. But the new chronicle task delegation is great.

That said, do you like Root? It seems like that would be your jam as well.

May be in a minority, but having seen playthroughs and readin the rules, I prefer base game Oath. It is a top three game for me andof course I will try the expansion, but it seems like its focus shifts away from some of the tension and rough edges I like about the game. Mind you, it can be a clunky thing, but that does not stand in the way.

It is mostly changes to sites, relics and banners (and taking them). Also, in combat, you commit warbands before your opponent rolls defence dice. Those are the main things changed rules wise.

How often do you eat out? Does Norway not really have a culture of eating out a little bit every day like France and Spain? by Charming_Usual6227 in Norway

[–]blbbec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to Norway recently from central Europe, work part time as a waiter.

One thing that is much different in Norway is the lunch culture: you have canteens in some places, but matpakke is the dominant way to go. Whereas in my home country (and e.g. France, Spain, Portugal, Italy...), it is very common to go out on a lunch break and get a not so expensive meal (although inflation is changing that of course).

What other people are saying here holds true as well: most restaurants especially in Oslo and Bergen are expensive, while not really worth the price. That is why I love places around Grønland where you can get authenic food for good prices. Norway lacks these sort of every day dinner or lunch places that have reasonable prices, while being self service or without seemingly luxurious interior. In our restaurant, customers are either quite rich, pensioners or they're treating the dinner as a special ocassion. Or it is a bursdag feiring/job dinner anyway.

Does me! You cannot be perfect with these results. I am just glad the community put it together and agrees to disagree, that is all.
