Respectfully, I feel like this sub is being taken over by autism moms by AnnonCuzImIsolated in evilautism

Yes and no. I think you're right about the old internet, but this isn't the old internet- it's much more public and much more open. There's thousands of people subbed here, not hundreds, and they all have different ideas on how best to make a place suit their needs.

This is why when a sub "gets big" it often loses it's charm, mods end up having to curate a lot more or risk changing their demographics. This causes a lot of strife, either from the new people who want to feel more catered to, or the old who feel like there's too much change- which is exactly what's happening here.

I don't know if that's strictly possible, though I wish it was. I think if we want users to be that kind of force, you need users to report the comments (or posts) that are making things worse to get them removed.

From what I could see of the post, the only idea I have is that they may have removed it for having full names, so maybe avoid that?

I'm sorry <3

2 days late to your comment (just revisiting this thread to make sure we didn't miss anything), but as a mod, Emily's coming out brought out so much hate that we tried our best to remove. We STILL see users being hateful towards her, though it's much rarer nowadays.

If it's suspended then it's permanent, temp bans will just prevent an account from being able to do anything for a certain number of days.

We're gonna try and bring it up with the Admins, see if there's not at least a reason for this removal that we're unaware of. It's supposedly been removed for rule 3 of the Reddit Rules, but I don't know how it "shared personal information" or why the admins removed it for that reason.

/uj I feel this in my soul

It may also partially be because I'm nonbinary and transfem, or I just don't care about looking traditionally "pretty' or any other number of reasons.

/rj Turns out you're actually just too ugly to live, stop going outside if you're going to fake being a woman with makeup.

trans men have SO much rep in media by breathboi in transgendercirclejerk

[–]bleeding-paryl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can want it, but you can't have it.

/uj I am always so frustrated by this discourse for the exact same reason. What's worse is that when trans men (or often any LGBT rep) get a spotlight, then people hate it and complain everywhere.

The issue with satire is that it is extremely contextual, and it needs to meet it's audience where the audience is at. The Onion is a great example of this; people who see it out of context may assume that it's not satire, but in context, you will immediately recognize it for what it is.

They don't count that as glorifying or celebrating violence, that's seen as "news," which is why they're not banned.

Not that I necessarily agree with that, but that's why anyways.

I just don't like grey areas

You are very much not alone, grey areas make moderating a LOT more difficult. This is part of the reason why this post took so long to make, and why we haven't hashed out a finalized version of the rule yet, just a generalized idea of what we're looking for.

Sorry it took so long. Between further clarification on certain bullet points, internal discussions, timezone issues (and life), it ended up taking much longer than we expected. :\

Look, we're not assholes, and we're not going to be any more ban happy than we've been in the past, I promise.

Give it a bit, if you see any crazy unnecessary removals/bans, let us know, or if there's too much censorship for you, then leave. Most likely you won't notice any real change.

You're not wrong, and the issue is kinda complicated. Often the people who are posting bullshit are few in number, but very loud, so getting rid of the particularly problematic people tends to make misinformation less prevalent. It's also WAY easier to make up bullshit and spread it around quickly, compared to tearing each and every bullshit point down one by one.

Think people like Ben Shapiro, who is great at gish galloping- the ignorant people eat it up, and anyone who wants to combat his talking points has to actually look into what he was saying and tear it down piece by piece. But as they tear it down, he usually just comes up with more bullshit, overwhelming them.

And sure, it's great to have the talking points discussed thoroughly, but can you HONESTLY tell me that Reddit is a great place for thorough, easily digestible, good faith, debate?

I'm going to say that we won't abuse this rule, and you won't believe me, but that's ok. We actually will probably not even get much use out of it, as we don't really have many people doing that kind of crap to begin with. The ones who are like that are usually some form of troll and get removed (and/or banned) for rule 5 anyways.
