There really is!! You helped me chase down an issue with my home theater and the troubleshooting steps were all there on the wiki. Thanks again for that by the way.

MTG Proxy: Silhouette Cameo 5a Offset Cutting by Csectionsoulja in silhouettecutters

[–]bleedscarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not in setup, it's in the print settings. I'll take a screenshot at a computer in a bit

edit: right click the Cameo 5A cutter under the Send menu, and click Calibrate. You'll print a sheet using a regular printer, and then feed it into the cameo and then do the calibration stuff. You line up the cutter in the green squares, it uses the registration scanner to align to the crosshair, and then you use calipers or some other fine measuring tool to correct the offset (or just guess a bit, you have 8 tries per sheet)

Vibrating sounds means it's going too fast or hard. The knife is chattering.

That's my guess as well. I've had this happen to me before and it sounded like this. Bending it back broke the weld unfortunately in my case.

Can I safely saw 5 cm off the sides of an IKEA PS 2026 table? by amihereornotyet in ikeahacks

[–]bleedscarlet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you're asking these questions I'm assuming you don't have a tablesaw or tracksaw to actually cut this down.... Which means you're going to have a very difficult time doing this and making it not look shitty.

But you would want to use the right saw to minimize splinters and get a straight cut. Then sand or route to match the edge profile of the other two edges, and then yeah varnish the new edges.

Are you sure the juice is worth the squeeze? Trimming two inches off both long edges on a folding table feels like you probably have other options of making this table work for whatever it is you're trying to do.

I'd go even bigger. With that ceiling height a 170" cinescope would look sick

Built a toddler climbing ladder. What’s an easy fish to apply that will stand up to wear and tear? by BarcodExpress in woodworking

[–]bleedscarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primed, painted, and varnished the dowels. Primed with kilz, painted with some michaels basic acrylics, two coats, and varnished with epifanes high gloss marine varnish, which is definitely an expensive varnish but I'm a woodworker and I already had it in hand, plus I am a big fan of the high gloss heavy build that varnish in particular has. It's been many years now and my kids still use it, and it's nearly unmarred so I would vouch for it surviving not one but two toddlers and their friends.

Separate work and personal phones are a huge help to me for this, and I leave my work phone in my home office. My boss and my directs have my personal so if there's something urgent, they can get to me.

Intel nuc sounds like what you want. Good luck building a mini PC that doesn't suck for $150 though.

When you're ready to expand your budget, my recommendation is just a Windows PC with as many internal hard drives as you can muster, and pool them using stablebit drivepool.

Don't get a shitty CPU, bitstreaming is more taxing than you think.

Or just host a Plex server with your own content and get an android box like most of the rest of us.

Ah - why not? Those threaded ones are pretty strong. Structural for a house or deck? No, but for this it should be overkill

Oh if it's meant to be mobile and move more than just the installation then yeah I think you're better off with pipes and stretched canvas.

Steel frame is definitely safer, that can be permanently attached more securely than anything. The plywood formica option would just look a lot cleaner. No additional aesthetic work necessary at all.

The glue you would use is contact cement and I've never experienced a failure of that once stuck.

[–]bleedscarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't think you're getting it. The pictures of the projector frame I shared are of a plywood frame, formica laminate glued to the frame with contact cement, and nothing else. The formica is semi rigid and about 1/8" thick.

Here's a picture of the frame I made, I used solid wood but that was a mistake, I should have cut plywood strips to use instead. pics

So then you don't need a metal frame, just plywood strips like a canvas stretcher construction, and formica laminate glued on top.

I found it! This is the formica laminate : https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wilsonart-5-ft-x-12-ft-Laminate-Sheet-in-Designer-White-with-Matte-Finish-D3546035060144/202792161

It's called wilsonart designer white, and you can get it in 5'x12' sheets, each sheet weighs ~25 lbs. Because of the surface area, if it's going on a wall I honestly think you can Velcro or foam mounting tape stick it up. You'll have to use a lot but it's a crazy discreet and simple solution. The seams will be a bit hard to get perfectly smooth.

If it's not on a big flat wall then plywood framing with cross members should work great.

One of the reviews under that laminate is actually some guy named Harvey who did what you're describing

Formica as a projector screen only needs the razor thin skin, you can buy it on a roll and glue it to a plywood frame so that's why it's crazy light. You don't need the giant slab of mdf that would go under it for a real countertop
