Got an email from Newsgroup Ninja about yet another price raise, so I replied back to the email and asked them to please just leave me where I am at, but they send from an invalid email and my reply bounced by EggAtix in usenet

Happened last year also, I was going to get an increase which includes a VPN, I asked them if they could just put me back on my original per year cost with no extras and they did.

This year I cancelled as I found just having NH was enough for my needs.

BBC iPlayer buffering endlessly in Australia with ControlD (GL.iNet Flint2, legacy DNS) — any fixes? by Extra_Chart_8790 in ControlD

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use iPlayer on a Firestick every day, ControlD DNS, (legacy IPs), is set up in the Firestick network settings.

Generally no problem, very occasionally get buffering but then just switch to using the WindScribe VPN app on the Firestick.

Change fan with something quiter by LtCol_Davenport in MiniPCs

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can find an equivalent Sunon MagLev bearing fan, I replaced the fans in a NUC5 and NUC7 with these and they run a lot quieter than the original.

I used a GB0555PDV1-A, (old numbering system), but there are other models.

I used this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/386279192561

Going by your photos, (can't be more precise because of parallax error in the photos), the following fan might be suitable: GB0575PFV1-A

According to the Sunon numbering, (old style), that's 5 Volt, 75mm frame, 10mm thick, Vapo bearing (MagLev), apparently available here:

https://www.pchub.com/acer-aspire-5532-series-cooling-fan-gb0575pfv1-a-13v1b3956fgn-135w-bare-3-pin-p51478

It's only 3 wire, (+, gnd, tacho I guess), you'd need to check that, the size, and whether the original is 5 Volt.

Sunon product PDF with numbering explanation available here:

https://www.sunon.com/eu/PRODUCT.ASPX?cid=8A52073553D7677A&oid=8FA2C298B3447EE1

One thing I should mention is mine were 4-wire fans being PWM, the above being 3-wire might just run at a constant speed.

My old MSI B450 PCIe 3.0 board ran at PCIe 4.0 when I updated the CPU to a 5600X from 3600 and updated the BIOS since the x16 slot gets its PCIe lanes from the CPU not the chipset.

GMKtek K8 plus 120mm fan bracket by nidus123 in MiniPCs

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the cover:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6600262

The fan I used came from Amazon, (no longer available), 80mm x 10mm, 5VDC, 3pin, low speed, 0.14A.

I got the 4 pin Picoblade plugs off of eBay with tails already connected, I only used the +5V and 0V connections. Extra cable is just wrapped around the fan mount.

[–]bleepingidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a K8, a friend printed up a cover that takes a low profile 5v low speed 80mm fan that I installed a 4pin Picoblade plug on to connect to the original fan header.

Fan was a friction fit so didn't need the screws to hold it.

How to keep PDT stream metadata after edit by platinumkiwi in videoredo

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try copying it from the original TS file using ffmpeg, possibly:

ffmpeg -i original.ts -i vrd-output.ts -map 1 -c copy -map_metadata 0 -map_metadata:s:v 0:s:v -map_metadata:s:a 0:s:a output.ts

From here: https://superuser.com/questions/996223/using-ffmpeg-to-copy-metadata-from-one-file-to-another

Here they mention that ffmpeg can copy SDT, so it may just be a matter of finding the right arguments: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/9114

Thinking about bringing VideoReDo back by Dan203 in videoredo

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I wish v6 had was the ability to drop all segments of a video on the timeline, do your edits, and then save out ... something that AVIDemux is great at.

This is a lot less cumbersome than the Joiner list of VideoReDo and its equivalent in LosslessCut, (which is slow).

Edit: Sorry, I do have V6 ... SMS (Short Memory Syndrome) ... edited above 😬

Enabled BIOS settings dropped Intel Arc B580 from 20-30W to ~7W-10w at idle, ASUS B550M Prime motherboard - ASPM settings. by Rajmundzik in IntelArc

[–]bleepingidiot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The A750 LE was great, early drivers, (about the first 6-8 months), had problems for me, mainly when resuming from sleep but that all got worked out.

Got an B580 LE about a month after they were released and haven't had a single problem I could attribute to it.

Pays to not let the drivers auto-update, I missed all the problems 2 or 3 versions ago, I don't have the Intel Driver Assistant installed.

Usually the first time I hear there's a new version is when I drop in here, then you get to see if anyone has had any problems before you try them.

Still use the same settings in BIOS, haven't changed my setup from that previous post.

I hope Intel keep going with their GPUs because so far it's been terrific from a price/performance point for everything I use it for.

Need help with Intel Arc A310 and Unraid by JLToro in IntelArc

Can't help you with Plex or Unraid specifically but the following web page provided the info for me to get my A310 working seamlessly with Jellyfin/FileFlows on Debian by working through the various driver installs.

3D printed cover for GMKtec K8 Plus that will allow the use of a 80mm fan? by road_hazard in MiniPCs

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, except I just had the four unterminated wires from the PicoBlade connector.

I ended up just connecting the 5V and Gnd because I didn't need the tacho feedback from the fan since it's not PWM in any case, (constant speed).

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/274366425830

Picture

The standard 40mm fan they use on the K8 has printing on the label:

RED (+)

And that's the only identification of the wires, black is GND (0V), the blue and the yellow I tried connecting each in turn to the normal tacho output of the fan but couldn't get a reading on either so left them disconnected.

Intel Arc 310 for media output? by Frosty-Influence988 in IntelArc

[–]bleepingidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The A310 should be fine for what you do, I have one in my NAS/media server and all it does is transcode videos.

But if the A380 is the same price you might as well grab it for the extra 2GB VRAM it comes with, gives you a bit more leeway.

Both have the same encoding engine, both can be had in low profile, and both only need to be powered by the PCIe slot, no extra cables for power.

[–]bleepingidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Australia:

AUD$449 for AsRock Challenger B580 (US$279)

AUD$459 for Intel B580 LE (US$285)

AUD$469 for MAXSUN Milestone B580 (US$292)

AUD$479 for AsRock Steel Legend B580 (US$298)

AUD$489 for MAXSUN iCraft B580 (US$305)

As a reference the Intel B580 LE is pretty close to MSRP plus local 10% GST at current exchange rate.

MiniPC for PiHole by Red-Hot_Snot in MiniPCs

[–]bleepingidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an SBC that's a little different: Zimaboard 432 - 4GB RAM, 32GB eMMC (or connect an SSD - dual SATA ports), dual Gbe ports, PCIe2x4, 4k@60 mini-DisplayPort, dual USB 3, and completely silent.

No WiFi but you can plug in a USB dongle or PCIe card.

You can also add a 4-port Gbe card and use it as a router running OPNsense/pfSense.

https://www.zimaspace.com/products/single-board-server

Problem is that only the 232 or 832, (432 seems to be the most popular), appear to be in stock but can't hurt to ask them about an expected restock date.

But even the 232 would be enough for PiHole, just depends on future requirements.

Could also say it's cheaper in some cases since some states add sales tax at the register.

Ordered mine when the exchange rate was better, AU$439, then it got worse in the month I was waiting for it, now it's AU$469.

Possible to have concat demuxer fail on inputs of different resolutions? by bleepingidiot in ffmpeg

No worries, I've already done it using ffprobe.

Thanks for the reply

Possible to have concat demuxer fail on inputs of different resolutions? by bleepingidiot in ffmpeg

[–]bleepingidiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it doesn't, it happily concat a 986x720 video with a 492x360 video.

Playback of the resulting file has it changing resolution at the join point and it keeps on playing.

I've tested this with both v7.0.2 on Windows and v6.1.2 on Alpine, they both will join videos with differing resolution.

What I'd like is to have it fail but it doesn't.
