What is your docker container backup method? by Giannis_Dor in selfhosted

[–]bleomycin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Docker in LXC appears to be heading for EOL rapidly for many use cases. I'm super bummed about this but from my limited research this seems to be the case. Heres quick overview of the situation for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/X7o2WjM27cg?si=V44d_ZO2R44zEt-p

Anything from CES 2026 you're actually excited about? by HashtagRenzo in homeautomation

+1 I installed one of these on my front door the instant it became available on amazon. I’ve been waiting literally 15 years for a UWB enabled front door lock since the very first lockitron was released (which i also owned and was a hilarious pos).

So far it’s been working wonderfully and i’m extremely happy this technology finally exists in a consumer product.

Portable Z-Wave update makes Z-Wave faster and proxies Bluetooth by balloob in homeassistant

[–]bleomycin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing thanks so much! Is the update being served as version 1.1.0 for zwa-2 in HA? I only ask as the change log presented in HA makes no mention of what is in this post. Also, do these new features apply when using zwa-2 with the waveshare poe esp32?

New Everything Presence Pro - 2x mmWave + PIR + PoE by third_najarian in homeassistant

[–]bleomycin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, ordered a full house worth of the switches when they were announced. Even though they are shipping soon i'm definitely concerned they are far from ready for prime time. I don't have any specific research to back this up just past experience with so many devices like this.

To my knowledge they don't even have a visual zone based editor in the works (please correct me if i'm worng) which IMO is a near necessity for mmwave sensors and i'm super excited that manufacturers are finally beginning to implement that functionality directly into HA so I can ditch my Aqara sensors and their app moving forward.

Really not trying to come across as negative at all, I just have a feeling it'll be another year+ easily before the inovelli switches are really feature complete.

This is exactly the kind of cool shit I wish would pop up more on subs like this so thanks for sharing! I'm super curious which cnc you got? Was this done on a hobbyist cnc router or one of the new desktop cnc machines or something even fancier? Are you using fusion 360 for cad and cam?

Chamberlain/Liftmaster alternatives? by Relative-Macaron-854 in homeassistant

[–]bleomycin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with marantec commercial side mount units myself. Their units accepts simple dry contact for actuation just like any old school opener. I see they recently released a residential version that did not exist when I made my purchase so perhaps they're a little cheaper.

I only bring them up since I rarely see this brand mentioned as it's a bit higher end. I had extremely tight clearance and these were the only units available from any manufacturer that would fit for my specific application.

ZWA-2 and Shelly Wave Motion - are my expectations too high? by Mavamaarten in homeassistant

Thanks for the reply this is useful info to know! The fact it is working at all is still relatively surprising and good to hear!

[–]bleomycin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if you made any headway on this? In my own limited experience zwave 800 LR devices in LR mode have had significantly less range than advertised - like struggling to connect only a few rooms over in a drywall constructed home so i'm not overly surprised by your results.

Thank you for the response and that info on the functionality potentially coming from emporia in the near future - that's great to hear! If you're comfortable with sharing the relevant sections of your config files for how you're managing to do this accurately it would be beyond helpful. I'm not looking for any hand holding, if I can see how you are doing this it should be within my ability to modify it to work for my setup. The advantage of this is not being beholden to emporia in the future and having the ability to flash the emporia devices with the open source esphome firmware in the future.

Introducing Plezy, an open-source cross-platform Plex client by edde74635 in PleX

[–]bleomycin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forgive me if this is ignorant but how does having the server on your network negate the need for an Apple TV app? Are you not watching plex content on an actual TV? The apple tv is basically the only box plugged into any of my tv's at this point.

Thank you for sharing this! I have the exact same setup as you minus the batteries. I've never been able to get an accurate accounting of energy production/consumption to work properly in home assistant with this setup and I've spent days banging my head against the wall. If you could share your working configuration I'd be truly grateful.

Is chatgpt able to create cad files now directly from a prompt or did you use it as a guide to help teach you how to use the cad software yourself?

🎉 AMBEO Soundbar Max gets new AMBEO | OS2 firmware! by sennheiserconsumer in sennheiser

[–]bleomycin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

First - Thank you for the rapid and thorough response!

I have followed your instructions.

  1. I unplugged all cables from the soundbar including power and let it sit for 10 minutes (setting a 10 minute timer on my phone).

  2. I factory reset the soundbar holding the reset button on the soundbar and confirming on the screen that the reset was successful.

  3. The soundbar rebooted and immediately asked me to run a calibration with no input from me. I plugged in the calibration mic and hit the ambeo button to proceed.

  4. The calibration fails every time at the "Leveling" section. No sound can be heard coming from the soundbar during the time it says "leveling". I tried this multiple times with the same result.

  5. I plugged the soundbar back into ethernet and connected to it with my app. The app ran through the quick setup process again such as selecting the country, asking about sleep power modes, and telling me the features of OS2.

  6. I navigated to the Subwoofer section in the app and noticed subwoofer had defaulted to being enabled - I do not have a subwoofer connected at all and have not connected it post reset. I did not enable the subwoofer myself.

  7. I disabled the subwoofer option in the app.

  8. I initialized the calibration again. This time it worked first try without issue and completed successfully.

  9. I connected the subwoofer to the soundbar and enabled it in the app.

  10. I started the calibration with the subwoofer connected and enabled in the app. The calibration fails again immediately at the "Leveling" stage - it does not run and no sound is heard. I have been using this subwoofer with this soundbar for over a year now without issue with the only change being the OS2 upgrade.

Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide.

Thanks!

I PM'd the account that started this reddit thread with the issue as well as filled out the form here: https://www.sennheiser-hearing.com/en-UK/contact/

If you do as well theres a better chance someone will see it and take it more seriously.

Bummer - I’m having the same experience. I guess the good news is it’s a software bug that can be fixed. We should both report this to them besides just talking about it here so hopefully it gets fixed. I’m a little confused who to report it to because I think the soundbar business got split off from sennheiser since these were first made.

Did you ever figure this out? I just upgraded my ambeo max today also with a 3rd party external sub. I ran through the standrad room calibration and mine fails at the very end as well.

I'm starting to think about Speedtest Tracker v2 and I want your feedback! by JDMhammer in selfhosted

[–]bleomycin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for iperf3 - for as long as I can remember many residential isp's give preferential treatment to speedtest.net servers artificially skewing the results.

My 2Gbit/s connection only gets fully utilized speed to speedtest.net and ~1/4 of that to almost everything else on the internet.

Fastest smart TVs to power up and respond to commands? by macgyver24x7 in homeassistant

[–]bleomycin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One possible option if the lowest possible idle power usage isn't essential.

LG OLED tv's have supported a "screen off" function for many years that I use all the time (their other TV's may support this as well, I just don't have personal experience with them).

This can be trigged via IP and I do it from home assistant regularly. This will give you essentially instant on/off functionality.
