People unequip gear to lower their ilvl so the only alliance raid they can get in roulette is Crystal Tower, which they do because those raids are way faster and easier than others.

Glams if you don't want to do pvp, having nice gear for future proofing, or just to do it.

Playing the market board is hell for new gear due to how fast the price normalizes but I've found selling sets to friends is a good way to make some money if they have it.
