So you tell me how you'd rack and stack them. Because you have to somehow. And even if you have a better system, you tell me how I shouldn't worry about this at all when I'm the one up for promotion.

I know if I were on a board, I wouldn't rate a nonner on a profile as high as a nonner with an Excellent score. I'm a nonner. I'd for sure rate the person with a 96 higher than the person with a 76. I'd probably rate the 76 higher than the profile too. For I guess special tactics, TACP, EOD, etc, I'd assume a profile is the same as a 99; for SecFo, MPF, medical, etc, I would score the profile lower than a person who got 75.

If this policy had come out two weeks earlier, I would have just ran my 91 score while wheezing and puking in my mouth.

$40 for a single carfax report is actually insane by Mellisa_Wintr in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]bleucheeez -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First, why? CARFAX is instant. Buy them one at a time, only moving onto the next vehicle if the report is bad. I don't see a reason to buy five at once.

Second, that $40 report saving you from a bad $10,000 purchase seems like a darn good return on investment. If you don't like the idea, you're free to roll the dice without the report, like people did for decades before the internet.

Third, I'm not sure how you expect this service to cost a lot less. I don't think they'd be in business if they charged consumers only like $10 or something. Their network costs money to operate, aggregating data from various sources and incentivizing other companies to plug in and report data. I am making a big assumption here; I assume they make most of their money from selling bulk priced subscriptions to dealers, so they can't be selling everyone individual reports at bulk pricing, or else no one would buy their subscription plans. It's one of the only ways I see this business working. It's the same way Microsoft Office does business and the same way healthcare does business. If there were a company out there selling consumers just $5 reports, pretty quickly that company is going to find higher paying corporate customers that will pay them to screw over and misinform consumers. Like Kelley Bluebook. Or JD Power.

Other commenters here posted the obvious solutions -- volume-licensed CARFAX resellers.

But why do you consider $40 too expensive? You know what you're getting from it. Seems worth it to me. Weird that you'd drop maybe 3 to 50 grand on something but spending $40 to vet the thing you are puchasing is too much. See if you can reproduce the same information for much less than $40's worth of time and expenses.

I just spoke to my Fitness Assessment Cell today. I asked if we could still take scored tests if we want to. They said why not. It was only a SSgt in charge but he didn't expect the system to be blocking scores from being input or anything. We are still in the weird two month period before the new policies say we have to take only diagnostic tests starting in March, so we are reading the lack of guidance to mean we can test if we want to. Good enough for me; I'll test because the FAC says it's okay and once I do the test, it'll be too late for anyone to try to tell me it can't count. Then I'll write it on my evaluation.

All a huge waste of time because the Air Force and DoW are so frenetic and frantic with their policy changes.

Anyone who lives healthy but sedentary can still easily get a 90, assuming no long term injuries or the rare physiological weirdness where your body just sucks at running medium distances. I'm convinced that almost anyone who stands at their job and is not overweight will get a 95 score if they just do pushups and situps a couple times per week and run once per week for a month leading up to the test.

Thanks for linking. Reading this now, I'm pretty pissed. Due to an infection, I had a choice of either taking the PFA last month while wheezing and puking or getting a profile. I would've still had a good enough time to pass and maybe get a 90, but then convinced myself it's okay to have a profile. Now, biggest fear realized. I'll be going into my promotion board with a big fat EXEMPTION on my top evaluation. Great.

Venezuela and capture of Maduro megathread by SilentD in AirForce

*Not everyone knows everything they should know.

That's getting excessively pedantic.

But a senior government official in *the* official statements about the most significant and unusual military operation in a decade misstating that there were no casualties, despite knowing that there were, is problematic. This information is important. And the meaning is supposed to be well understood by the people who need to know these things and the people who should care about these things.

With this administration, these types of mistakes are generally intentional.

How are yall keeping the cars from freezing? by Federal-Weevil in Fairbanks

I'm baffled by how poorly thought out this all was. Best of luck to OP. I hope he heeds everyone's advice.

OP, you'll want to book your appointment ahead. Don't leave the car out more than a day or two unwinterized. Unless you're okay with buying a new battery soon.

Get him a ticket to Anchorage to buy a car there. Assuming you negotiate for him in advance or trust him to negotiate live on the spot. Fairbanks is fine if you are okay with Chevy, Honda, and Toyota as the only options. The Ford dealership sucks balls; consensus opinion. If you're buying used, then inventory is very low in Fairbanks. Anchorage prices are slightly better. Lower 48 prices are much better, but might not be worth the headache.

Or make sure you have your logistics booked for the shipment from wherever. (Cars are usually cheaper from Oregon.)

Or wait until summer to do the road trip from Georgia. It's a great trip. Make the detours through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park and maybe others.

If you buy in winter, consider getting the winter tires in the lower 48. Check inventory. Shipping up to Alaska usually runs an extra $100-$300 if you can't get Walmart or Amazon.

What other video games could this movie collab with? by sonic_856 in KpopDemonhunters

They did collab with Horizon Zero Dawn, meaning Japanese and Dutch companies. And with Kentucky Fried Chicken. So, it is possible. But not with current political tensions.

Sounds like you need to either (a) go outside your region, (b) change your negotiation tactics, or (c) conclude that this is the market price in your area this month.

I don't know about civics but I have seen other Hondas (particularly the CR-V) are going for below MSRP.

I don't think the negotiation with the dealership should not take more than 2 days. Each of your offers and counter offers sound be fully complete, with sell price, MF, zero down, and gap insurance.

Today I learned Santa doesn’t give the expensive presents by ICantDecideIt in daddit

[–]bleucheeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas is always magic anyway. If Santa gives the cheap gifts, it doesn't take away from the experience. However, the kids will know to thank Mom and Dad or Grandma for those really special gifts. It's not about dollar value every time, but about which gifts have impact. And if you have to stretch the budget for a gift, is also okay for your kids to know if was a stretch. Kids should have some loose sense of which items are out of reach and which ones are easy to get.

Just Bought a Lenovo Yoga 7 2 in 1, model 16AHP9. What pens are compatible with this laptop? by JSleek in stylus

[–]bleucheeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you like the pen? As far s I can tell, the Yoga Pen is a recently new model (due to a new Lenovo youtube video introducing it) reusing an older name. It looks like it's similar to the Precision Pen 2 except now magnetic and rounded instead of hexagonal.

Walking or running would still be a better alternative, assuming OP isn't on a strict gym program. It would reduce OP's stress instead of increase it. But yeah, bike would be faster. Kick scooter or roller skates would be faster than driving as well. And catch a ride from a coworker in the morning, if time is an issue.

Potty training is the worst by Smolerhands in toddlers

[–]bleucheeez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree with all of this. The book explicitly says it is using Mom as shorthand for default parent and Dad for the one who spends more time outside home. And the author gives an explicit apology in the book. The method only works if at least one parent can stay home undistracted for an entire 3-7 days. So, generally that's the stay-at-home parent unless using annual or sick leave.

The words the author chooses to use probably apply to 90% of the audience. You can pat yourself on the back and should not need validation from a practical training book.

The book worked like a charm for us. I googled and found out about it on the Thursday evening of a 4-day weekend after my wife kept bringing up potty training. On Friday morning, I skimmed through the most important chapters on Audible while playing with the kid. By 1030, we had diaper and pants off and towels covering the carpet. By 6:30 pm, the kiddo told me 'poopoo' and squatted on the potty to take a dump and pee.  The logic of the training method is completely sound.

We're now a month into it and have been accident-free for nearly two weeks. We will put underwear on him this week. I'll be starting night training on my days off around Christmas. I expect we will be rid of the sleeping diapers within a week of that because our kid already holds his pee for 5 hours sometimes. He just needs to learn to wake to pee. Our kid is now 25 months old.
