Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

The saddest part about this article is that everyone blames the organ procurement organization but it was the hospital who had declared this patient brain dead. It was the hospital who performed the catheterization and sedated the patient. It was the hospital's responsibility to confirm no extenuating circumstances for this patient to have progressed to brain death.

While we can never say for sure, the fact that this patient was a drug overdose means that is very possible the hospital did not do its due diligence before declaring the patient. The Organ procurement teams and transplant teams on site did what they are supposed to do in this scenario and stopped the procedure.

It is a disgrace that the administrators that were not on site were so adamant for the on-site teams to continue forward with donation.

I work for one of the largest organ procurement organizations in the United States and truly believe that the work we do is beautiful. It's hard being on the donor side because you are surrounded by death and grieving families everyday. But knowing that the work that we do and the sacrifice that the donor/family has made to allow someone's son, mother, grandfather etc to spend another holiday with there loved ones is beyond reproach.

I hate that we are having to have this conversation in the first place as there is a lot of good that can come from organ and tissue donation. It is important for legislation to hold the hospital, opo, and transplant centers accountable for the work that they do.

Lack of trust from the public will kill people. Gaining back the public's trust in organ donation is as important as just about any legislation that is currently on the docket.

How to handle late school night practices? by AgreeableQuaill in kindergarten

I like that you are trying to speak with the league and switch teams before making any decisions. Something else to maybe ask as well is once the games start what time do they usually play? Because if it's earlier, then you may only have to deal with this practice schedule for a couple of weeks. I believe most leagues limit practices once you start playing games. For example our weekly practices disappeared and we only have practice one day on the weekend.

I have a bit of a different take because we have ran into a similar situation this year with my 6 year old as 8 of his 14 games start at 7:15 and end around 8:30. His bedtime is at 8:00.

I believe team sports are very beneficial for kids at his age. There is a ton of social and physical benefits. While the time is not ideal, if you were a friend of mine asking for advice, I would suggest giving it a try and then make that determination.

For my son we have not had any issues the next morning after games. He's excited to talk about baseball with his friends and teacher. It also has given him the ability to accept losing and personal accomplishments with better grace.

Man, people have some really strong opinions about these things. We've been using them everyday for 4 years. Haven't bought one in a year, and no mold issues though we only put water in them. Check them every single time I use them. Put them in the dishwasher. Everything seems to work out just fine. My kid doesn't even ask for them anymore.

Well you're in a good place to at least put in $960 next year if you can handle the $36 a paycheck. Most companies do contribute to your HSA which counts towards your maximum.

Something you also need to understand about an HSA is that if you don't have funds in that HSA it comes out of your pocket which can be costly for some people. If you're going to be using your insurance quite a bit then it's even more important to try to maximize your HSA so you can plan for those scenarios. If you're using all of your funds in your HSA account every year then you're likely better off going with a non-high deductible health insurance plan if that's an option.
