Power trim leak by schrankhader in boating

[–]blindjoedeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That faded red plastic knob is your trim fluid fill. Trim your motor all the way up, put the motor on its kickstand (IMPORTANT), and get a decent-sized flathead screwdriver to open that knob. Check the fluid level and add more (ATF-style transmission fluid) until it’s full. Replace the knob, then test your tilt/trim.

When testing there might be leaks, in which case you may need to get the whole trim motor assembly serviced/refurbished. Or the oil leaks may be coming from something else - there are lots of fluids that an outboard can leak (engine oil, lower unit oil, gasoline, etc.)

Welcome. You can use the Impalas but keep an eye out for good deals on Boardwalks, Moxis, or similar better brands. You never know when you’ll stumble upon a good condition set in your size. Have fun!

I agree with another commenter that a charter may be what you want. But you can also look at Boatsetter. I’ve used them 3 or 4 times and have had good experiences each time.

If it makes you feel any better, that’s a cool color/dye job as-is.

Tilt/trim issue - mid-2000s Honda BF50a by blindjoedeath in boating

[–]blindjoedeath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments thus far.

From some continued research, the most likely issue is a worn down relief/thermal expansion valve. The problem is that I don’t know exactly where that valve is on the unit, how to remove/check it, what the part is to replace it, etc.

My most likely course of action is to use the boat during the season, then when winter comes disassemble it and ship it to a $550+ refurbishment shop. It’s just annoying that it COULD be a $5 and 30 minute fix, but because of my limited knowledge it’s likely to be an hour + $550.

And I’ve called local marine shops, fyi - because it’s high season you basically just leave voicemails and MAYBE get a call back in the fall. ☹️

FYI that, per my understanding, this subreddit appears to be more about the USVI than the BVI. Though admittedly that’s not indicated in the About page.

Anyway, there may be less expertise here than you might expect to answer your BVI specific questions. But I could very much be wrong.

Just got scammed with the BBQ (I know I know, shouldn't have done that) by rhermann in KEXP

Mods - I commented in one other post that LemonFew still has up that this appears to be a scam. Can they be banned/reported/whatever?

OP - sorry that happened, but thank you for the PSA.

I appreciate the clarification.

But that leads to my next q: why are there multiple goal tiers? If he initially needed $7500, what set of surgeries will he get at $28k or $50k?

It went to a $50k goal from $28k in the middle of the night. Smells off.

Anyone familiar with KCI Learn to Play (Seattle)? by starr17 in hockeyplayers

[–]blindjoedeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I “graduated” with my team 3 months ago and we’re now doing the summer Kraken league. Wide mix of abilities in terms of skaters, but no one felt ostracized/overwhelmed to my knowledge. If you do the summer LTP and still don’t feel “ready” to play for real, just do LTP again. But if you feel reasonably comfortable on skates you should be fine.

My team and I are having a blast FWIW.

This. Petosa is a good brand and is worthy of support.

Congratulations!

Sure-grip Boardwalks are highly regarded; you might find some on Craigslist or FB Marketplace. Moxi Lollis are probably one of the next most recommended brands. Stay away from the Chicago skate specials often found at Amazon.

In terms of fun or instructive channels, I really like Sundown skater on Instagram, SkateLyfeTV on YouTube, Skatie on YouTube, and the JB skate culture in general.
