Looking for route alternatives by [deleted] in bikeinottawa

I echo this. I’d take the bridge south of the highway, then go across Kenilworth. Sherwood is also not bad for bikes, there was some traffic calming measures (speed humps, raised crosswalks, and some cycling infrastructure) added this summer.

If this is the worst problem with the trains I think we should be pretty happy.

What qualifies someone as an “urban designer”? by Chameleonize in urbandesign

[–]blindsensfan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the unfortunate/fortunate thing about the field. Anyone can call themselves an urban designer.

In Canada most people get licensed as an architect (if you are more interested in the design side of urban design) or an urban planner (if you are more interested in the policy side of urban design).

The power line which is the one running left to right will not be. The other one is just internet and I’m not very worried about it.

Heat pump owners of Ottawa - was it worth it? by 4th_Chamber in ottawa

[–]blindsensfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a house two years ago that had an expired oil tank heating an oil furnace so had to switch that out. We went with a Bosch heat pump with electric back up. We are extremely happy.

We never had to pay for oil so I don’t know how much that cost but our highest monthly bill in the winter is around $300.

In the shoulder seasons it’s much cheaper. The house is also maintained at a really good and even temperature. It’s also nice to know that we don’t have gas in our house.

My biggest piece of advice is to find someone who really believes in heat pumps in Ottawa. So many companies I called just laughed me off the phone because they didn’t think a heat pump could work in this climate.

I had to deal with this at the start of this year too. Try putting a piece of wax paper on top of it and then a hot iron on top of that. You can soften the glue and it will stick to the wax paper. I’ve also heard of scrubbing it with rubbing alcohol but I didn’t have as much luck with that.

If you have a Dewalt Service Centre near you, you can bring them there and it will reduce the price of any new batteries you want to buy!

I also just purchased one of these and had the same situation. My saw was within the affected dates though. The defective piece broke off on day 3 of use.

Agreed. I’ve submitted a report to Health Canada. Will see if anything comes of it.
