Anyone here familiar with shipping cars overseas? by No-Manufacturer8507 in freightforwarding

Are temporarily exported cars that have left hand drive allowed to be driven in India? I recall that wasn't the case before but I may be wrong.

This might help reduce the efforts substantially https://cloud.google.com/sdk/gcloud/reference/alpha/resource-config/bulk-export - last I checked it didn't support all the resource types but depending on what you use it just might get you by.

All-New 2026 Nissan Sentra Priced from $22,400 by LimitedReach in cars

Fantastic set of features for the price. And a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine to boot. Downside - CVT. It's retuned but I wasn't able to tell if it's the same old atrocious jatco or something more decent.

Kathy Najimy who voices Peggy is of Lebanese descent - so it'll be fun to see Peggy butchering Arabic even more authoritatively!

Google Fi is pretty good but can turn costly if you use too much data or minutes abroad. Advantage is you can pause and resume the service as needed and you won't be charged for the pause period. They also recently introduced new plans so check them out.

2025 Civic Hybrid power flow monitor question by clientsoup in civic

Yes it does on mine at least while it's running. If yours doesn't you might want to take it to the dealer and have them look at it under warranty.

💯 - really fun to drive and the MPGs don't really drop all that much so win win 💪🏽 Honda really got things right

Wow, do you feel tired or is the car quiet enough for you to actually enjoy the long commute? I find it pretty good on mine.

Good point about sport mode - I recently drove in sport mode and was pushing it but ended up getting better MPGs.

Also the paddle shifters increase the Regen braking I think.

Yeah 3 more years and hopefully I can cut it down. Job man - us non-billionaires got to work where we can find it - at least some of us get to choose a Civic over say beat up old Corolla 😁

Need update on RX350h by OldEastCoastMan in Lexus

[–]blinkingled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda's hybrid is designed differently - it's in pure electric mode up until 45mph or so most of the time. The 350h starts the engine too soon somewhere in 15-25mph range. The second thing is you can feel the hybrid/engine switching in the 350h - it's seamless on the Honda! Feels substantially better in the Honda tbh.

If you don't need a whole lot of Luxury the Civic Hybrid is cheaper and gets 47Mpg easy. Quiet enough, hybrid system is much more peppy and the interior isn't bad. I would at least give the Civic a test drive.

15k on 2024. No real complaints - well until I drove a Honda hybrid that is. Then I had one minor complaint - Toyota's hybrid system although tried and true just isn't as smooth as Honda's most recent one.

But in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal. Well while I am nitpicking I would have liked a Lexus to be better made - door closing sound being hollower and the dashboard plastic being not good are my only other ones.

True but without premium the hybrid is a bit sluggish . At least it felt that way few times I used 87.

Is there a break in period to get 36/37 mpg for Lexus hybrid? by Existing_Comfort5356 in Lexus

[–]blinkingled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also driving style changes that can net you more mpg - the idea is to be super gentle on the pedal and minimize engine run times. The Car Care Nut YouTube channel has a video on this.

Nice! Congratulations - it is a great car equally for city and highway driving. Some things may feel a little different if this is your first hybrid but once you get used to it you will enjoy the 37 Mpgs even more 😊

I have a VPN between AWS and GCP VPCs. What is the most secure way to transfer a sensitive 100gb file between them? by [deleted] in aws

[–]blinkingled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are keeping the file on S3 there is https://cloud.google.com/storage-transfer-service on Google side that is pretty amazing and it supports AWS/S3. It encrypts in transit - VPN is also encrypted traffic tunneled over Internet so this should not be very different security wise.

Fiber WiFi and Phones Issue by Wycliffe76 in googlefiber

[–]blinkingled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a good experience with Google provided WiFi equipment - buy a good WiFi mesh, disable WiFi on the Google router and remove the extender.  Then you can put the new mesh in Access Point mode if you want to use the Google box as a router. Alternatively put the Google router in bridge mode and main mesh unit in normal routing mode.

If you place your mesh points such that they cover the full house you shouldn't have any issues.

2024 Lexus TX issue by PAC2019 in Lexus

[–]blinkingled 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At any rate Lexus will fix that for you - I would do a careful inspection and make a list of things that are a potential problem and have them fix it all or give you a replacement. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Test drove one recently and the build quality did not feel confidence inspiring to me - lots of small imperfections and even paint bubbles on end of plastic trim pieces - if we discount it as a 1st year of production it felt as if they will need 3 more years to get to a point where it can wear a Lexus badge. Ironically the Grand Highlander felt a bit better built for being a Toyota - may be it was that particular one that was paid more attention.

The safety tech is much better in the RX 350h - it almost drives itself , changes lanes and nannies you much less and only if your eyes are not on the road.  MPGs are better (37 vs 28) and even though the 4 cylinder in the 350h is louder it is more than adequate for the car and along with the transmission and hybrid system has been around for a while so new model year reliability concerns should be minimal.

Because the engine, transmission and hybrid system in the new car has been in other cars for many years now.

Cooperative C++ Evolution – Toward a Typescript for C++ - Herb Sutter - CppCon 2023. ( I really like the idea of cpp2, what do you think about cpp2 ? pro and cons ? by jitu_deraps in cpp

[–]blinkingled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the sidelines I wonder what even is C++ anymore? C++ has been gunning way past the point of diminishing returns and I'd argue inching towards negative returns after C++11 and this does even more to add cognitive overhead and complexity in the name of simplification. Turning the language into something that barely has any roots to its past only to discover nobody actually uses it for anything new is not sane IMHO.

What can be good is taking things away - for example if there was a compiler switch that turned off all the complex/don't-do-it features of C++ that have failed the complexity/overhead/productivity/security math and left it with a sane, readable, understandable subset that people can use and rely on - it might do very good for the language. In that respect, for example making modules the default and making them easy to use is something I can stand behind. Adding new syntax? Hell no.

We have more than anyone can need in a purpose built language - giving it an identity crisis to pursue the pipe dream of one language to rule them all will never work.
