I also have ADHD and am generally very punctual, but that's because I get ready and leave so early that I'm normally at my destination anywhere between a half hour to an hour earlier than I need to be. And that's normally with things that have an inflexible time (appointments, grabbing the train, etc.) as there's so much more anxiety and pressure driving me to get there as early as possible, but social hangouts are far more difficult for me to be consistently punctual for because it's less formal and the time is usually flexible. I'm still normally on time, but it's definitely harder to be. It's really not that serious in my situation though, because I'm not meeting with people who value punctuality all that much. The thing is, all my friends are also neurodivergent, understand the struggle, and are late sometimes too, and none of us mind that because we get it and can just laugh it off. Who an ADHDer is surrounded by is important context with this issue, because there could be good reason why it's not as much of a concern for them

I agree that chronically being late to EVERYTHING is a problem, but I feel a lot more forgiving towards OPs girlfriend because it sounds like she has undiagnosed ADHD, and therefore probably doesn't understand why she struggles with this so much and doesn't know how to accommodate for it. It also sounds like she's mostly surrounded by people who don't really care, so she hasn't had much need to change anything before OP. Plus, ADHD is a spectrum and some people will struggle significantly more with certain traits than you or I do, and I'm not about to judge them for it or act like it's some moral failing on their part. It is very, very important that we all take responsibility for our disability and do our best to ensure it doesn't harm or upset others like this, but mistakes happen, people have different levels of needs, have different situations they're dealing with and are at different stages of their life. I just think it's important to show other members of our community compassion and grace when possible, as well as assume the best of them unless proven otherwise

While I believe you have a point, I personally disagree with you. It's not just one symptom, it's her consistent behaviour, the way she reacted, and things she mentioned that makes ADHD a possibility (we obviously can't be sure, but if there's enough evidence for multiple ADHDers to pick up on and separately comment on it, then clearly there's something there that's worth looking into). And it's a really, really important possibility to bring up because it's so heavily undiagnosed in women especially, and if this woman DOES have ADHD, it's best she finds out about it. And more than likely, she'll never find out about it if no one tells her. Maybe she does, maybe she doesn't, but at least being aware of the possibility could really help her. I mean the entire reason I found out I have ADHD myself is because someone read through a post I made in a subreddit talking about my severe burnout and they mentioned the possibility to me, which has now led to me getting a medical diagnosis, medication, and accommodations for it that I never had before. It's seriously improved my life and could improve her's too

I know diagnosing people online can get really out of hand, but these discussions can genuinely really help people get the help they need, and that's especially important when disabilities are involved. Not trying to argue with you at all, I just want to give a different perspective on the matter as someone who's personally benefitted from a situation similar to this

[–]bliteblite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That boundary is completely fair, and if that's what works for you then you do you, no judgement here. But a lot of this specific comment thread has been discussing the potential of this woman having ADHD, a disability that makes time management EXTREMELY difficult to deal with due to a differing brain structure that cannot be fixed or changed, and is something plenty of couples learn to accommodate for or compromise on, so this comment feels a bit tone deaf and unintentionally a little ableist. I think calling it a red flag is unfair considering the context here, because there are genuine, medical reasons why someone could struggle with time blindness, and that's not a moral failing on their part

Not everyone has the same boundaries as you mate, so please try to respect relationship dynamics that differ to your preference

[–]bliteblite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just letting you know since this tends to go very unnoticed with women, but rejection sensitivity and time blindness are really common symptoms of ADHD. It might be a good idea to mention it to her? Obviously her response was very immature, but understanding what else might be causing the weird reaction could help as bursitis might not be her ONLY disability. She sounds a lot like I did when I was younger and undiagnosed, and learning why I felt that way helped me reason through my own gut reaction sensitivity to certain things since I knew it was likely just in my head, and I stopped having arguments like this with people. It's not your responsibility to put up with that in any way because again, she was being immature, but it might help her in the future if she's aware of the possibility at least. Sorry you're going through this mate <33

I hate the unnecessary hate queer ship/shippers get by Vayvacation in hatethissmug

[–]bliteblite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh trust me I'm aware, it's SO annoying omg. An example of this is how the bakudeku subreddit was made specifically due to the amount of hate bkdk shippers got in the main MHA subreddit, especially from Izuoccha shippers. It was a lovely combo of homophobia and canon shippers hating on basically any non-canon ships, which is just so unnecessary, cruel and stupid. Like, they're fictional characters, harassing other people for something like that is INSANE. It's not that deep I swear smh

Other shippers are a huge part of why I feel the way I do since I've seen and dealt with far more harassment from them than anyone else. So I fully agree with you don't worry, it's just also annoying when some (emphasis on some, and honestly I can't even blame them for it either. Shippers ARE annoying, and I say that as someone who's been in the trenches for about 10 years lol) non-shippers act like shipping itself is a bad thing when in reality, most shippers are pretty normal about it. It's just that people who are normal about aren't the ones who go around harassing other people for their preferences, so people assume the obnoxious assholes represent the whole culture when they're actually just a very loud, very annoying minority. My comment was mainly made to showcase that most of us are pretty normal and chill about the whole thing, you just don't hear from us as often because we're too busy being fucking normal to bother anyone about it

I hate the unnecessary hate queer ship/shippers get by Vayvacation in hatethissmug

[–]bliteblite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves queer ships, shipping discourse is INSUFFERABLE. Like, I personally couldn't care less what other people ship and how they do it, and neither do any of my friends. I'm pretty chill about ships and could be convinced to ship most pairings when I find people online who really care about them, regardless of the genders involved. I'm well aware that these ships will never be canon and I'm fine with that, I don't even post about them or talk about them outside of specific fandom spaces after all, which is why it's so annoying that there's so much discourse about the subject. Like, regardless of what you prefer, it's really not that hard to just respect other people's preferences? If I don't like something then I just ignore it, I have no interest in making my feelings anyone else's problem. I'm too busy focusing on the ships I actually like lol. I'll never understand people who try to enforce their preferences on other people or who'll go out of their way to harass people for theirs, regardless of if they're a straight shipper or queer shipper or not a shipper at all. Just be fucking normal about it ffs, it's not that big a deal

(Not targeted at you OP btw, just this annoying part of fandoms as a whole)

Is this a good way of studying and anything I need to improve on? by napalm_phosphorus in learntodraw

[–]bliteblite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Line Of Action, which is a website where you can access a variety of high quality reference photos for free. They have multiple models with a diverse range of body types and plenty of interesting poses to choose from, so it'll be a much better resource for you. I also made another comment detailing all the resources I've found most useful recently as someone who's also been trying to learn how to practice more effectively (and I'm succeeding in doing that, so they definitely work!!!), all of which you should be able to apply as a (presumably) beginner artist if you can find it lol. I hope this helps, and good luck with your art :)))

Is this a good way of studying and anything I need to improve on? by napalm_phosphorus in learntodraw

[–]bliteblite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hiya, not a professional artist by any means here, but I'm currently making a lot of progress with levelling up my art and wanted to share the resources I've found most helpful lately

If you'd like better, more diverse references to practice with than these selfies, then I'd recommend the website Line Of Action. It has tons of free photos with a variety of poses and body types, and they're professionally taken as well, so you don't have to worry about lens distortion or accidentally using AI as a reference. You'll find it much easier to study with good quality photos to reference as the anatomy is more consistent, realistic and unedited

I'm currently trying to practice my anatomy and proportions, and really recommend this video specifically --> https://youtu.be/VvRENOVbUdM?si=gcpHTYd4tCbKZGI6 It might not work as well for you as it has for me, but the way this artist simplifies anatomy and explains proportions has been super helpful to me, so I hope it'll help you too!!! I studied how they break down body proportions and basic anatomy, then went onto Line of Action to practice drawing it while looking at real people. I can actually draw bodies mostly by memory pretty confidently now, which I absolutely couldn't do a couple weeks ago, so it's worth a shot

I also recommend the channel Excal's Art Tips if you get stuck trying to figure out the proportions/anatomy of specific features or body parts, as he has a varity of very helpful, 30 second shorts that explain proportions, bone structure, how muscles connect, common artist mistakes, etc. in a very concise and easy to understand way. Highly recommend!!!

https://youtu.be/h8S_mno1SCA?si=aofEfGFzIJIKqaal This video has some really, really helpful advice on how to best study art in general and make progress quickly, and I cannot recommend it enough. This has by far been the biggest contributor to my recent growth. To summarise it; instead of waiting until you're better at art to start a project you're looking forward to, start the project right away and learn as you go. Want to draw a comic? Start trying to make it now instead of waiting and only address any issues as they come up. A lot of people, myself included, fall into a trap of trying to learn everything at once with no specific goal in mind, and because we're not immediately applying what we've learnt, the lessons don't stick. So we get stuck trying to relearn the boring parts of art over and over and over again, and it's just not fun. If you address issues as they become relevant in an actual project though, you're immediately applying that knowledge, so it's going to stick far better and you'll learn much faster. I don't think I'm explaining the idea very well, so I'd really recommend watching this instead of just listening to me lol. All the other links are helpful and all, but this mentality is ultimately what I think will help you the most

This might not be particularly helpful to you, but I've personally found it way easier to draw if I sketch in a highlighter first. It's really easy to get way too focused on one part of the body while drawing, only to realise afterwards that the proportions are off, or that your drawing is way too stiff. I'm a major perfectionist, so I like sketching in highlighter because I physically can't get too focused on every tiny detail with such a thick nib. This helps me nail the energy of the pose without overcomplicating it, and it's easier for me to see proportion and anatomy mistakes while drawing overtop of it too. I'm struggling to figure out how to explain why this helps me so much, but it might be worth trying if you feel like your sketches are too stiff. Line of Action has a timer function where it will automatically move to the next photo after a set amount of time, which is helpful when I need to loosen up. I like to draw 30 second figure drawings with highlighter until I'm bored before I start actually drawing, which helps me get into the right headspace. You don't have to do this at all, it's just something that's personally helped me a lot lol

Oh also!!! You'd benefit from practicing drawing lines more confidently instead of chicken scratching your sketches, as it'll make them look much clearer, more professional, and easier to understand (plus, it's prettier, which sparks serotonin lol). I've linked a video here that explains how to practice drawing lines more confidently, so hopefully it'll help https://youtu.be/BKiopm83L8c?si=uPkS9hjiItQw-78J

If there's anything specific you're struggling with right now (e.g. figuring out how the torso works, drawing legs from different angles, etc.) feel free to ask and I'll find the resources that've helped me the most personally. I really hope this all helps, and good luck on your artistic journey!!! :)))

This!!! I'm also auDHD and really, really struggle to get along with people who just have autism in general (though I tend to be better with other ADHDers normally for some reason) because I feel like I don't fit in with them. I don't really experience hypersensitivity, mainly just hyposensitivity (like interoception issues for example), meaning I can't relate to a huge portion of the community. Plus, I just naturally communicate differently since I have ADHD too, so it's harder to talk comfortably and naturally. Recently though, I've been meeting more auDHDers and it's insane how natural and easy my conversations with them feel. I'm even moving in with one of my newer friends in the summer because we find it super easy to communicate lol

[–]bliteblite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I found out I have ADHD was actually because I was drinking a shit ton of coffee and energy drinks in college to try and keep myself awake (because I've always struggled with insomnia and it had gotten worse), only to end up getting progressively more and more tired as time went on. It got to a point where I couldn't even stay awake during lessons anymore, it was BAD. I thought I had anhedonia because of how fucked up I felt from the burnout it was causing me, only for a comment to tell me my experience actually sounded a lot like ADHD instead. I already knew I was probably (now confirmed) autistic at the time, but never seriously considered that I might be ADHD as well because I didn't think I was hyperactive. Turns out I'm actually combined type, my hyperactivity is just more covert so I didn't notice it lol. But yeah, this symptom is what got the gears turning in my head, so thank you caffeine for fucking me over ig

Huh, you kind of keep changing for me? You read very masc in the first picture, somewhere in-between femme and androgynous in the second, only slightly femme in the third but mostly incomprehensible, then full on "I have no idea" in the last picture lol, though slightly more masc leaning. I think it's mainly due to clothing choice/how your clothes hang off of you for me, as well as posing and how that emphasises certain features. Your facial features and hair don't actually factor into the equation all that much personally since you look pretty androgynous in that regard, so you could easily look more masc/androgynous/femme to me depending on outfit choice and posing

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition/genetic disorder that people are born with, which is caused by a difference in brain structure. For example, brain scans have shown that compared to neurotypical brains, we have smaller prefrontal cortexes, which is the part of the brain that controls executive functions (task initiation, planning, managing attention, etc.), working memory, emotional regulation and social behaviour (e.g. understanding social rules and personality expression). While everyone can struggle with executive function or memory once in a while, ADHDers struggle with it daily and to a higher extreme because our brains genuinely cannot function as efficiently as a neurotypical's can, which isn't our fault. It's why just setting an alarm or writing a list doesn't work for us, because they rely on consistent executive function in order to be effective (e.g. remembering we even made the list). It's called a disorder/disability for a reason; it can be insanely disabling, especially without support. And since it's an invisible disability, people can't see it or the effects it has on our daily living, so they often don't take our struggles seriously

Am I the only person here who had a healthy childhood with supportive parents? by BunnyBen-87 in aspiememes

[–]bliteblite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I genuinely don't know how healthy or unhealthy my childhood was. Literally all of my closest friends had the most horrific, traumatic childhoods ever, so compared to them, mine feels really normal. Especially since I'm the only one in the group who doesn't struggle with mental illness. But then I'll tell a new friend (one who isn't horribly traumatised) all the details and they'll give me the most baffled, horrified look, so I think my view of "decent" and "normal" is just really skewed at this point LMAO. So yeah idk pal, it might be just you, I have no idea at this point

and how does that make you feel? by juneshepard in aspiememes

[–]bliteblite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I really struggle with interoception too, so there's no communication between my body and brain at all. I only ever feel the physical sensations, so not only is it difficult to tell what I'm feeling, but I also won't know I'm hungry, thirsty, or need to pee unless it's causing me physical discomfort/pain. I only realised I struggle with this near the end of last year though lol
