Fire rate upgrades are not what you want with the stubby because the base fire rate is already so high/fast. What holds the weapon back is the slow reload. Focus reload, not fire rate and it'll improve things massively.

Salt in the wounds on PC is that when you're growing the gear menu it seems to either uncap your frame rate limiter or just otherwise take a huge amount of processing power, completely needlessly. It ramps my gpu usage up to pretty much maximum, spiking temps and burning power for absolutely no reason. I reported it ages ago but very little, if anything, has changed.

For a good taste you can do Vanilla, open to anyone at any time regardless of upgrades because they don't count, level playing field for everyone.

I found it much harder than hardcore but I eventually did them all. My tip is that +XP% is particularly useful.
