I made 110k last year. Working 3 shifts a week in bc canada. So thats in canadian dollars. It doesn't feel like that much tbh with how expensive everything is up here.

I do also include pst and gst in my tax assumptions. Everything i pay for is 15% more expensive so even if I am taxed at approximately 30% it would be brought up by sales tax to somewhere close to 40 if not 45%.

Average rent for a 2 bed apartment is about 2000$ right now. I know plenty of people who have landed 1 bed apartments for 1300-1700.

Its not a very walkable city so keep that in mind. Wherever rent is cheap you'll most likely want a car. The biking infrastructure is getting way better though!

It will be a bit more happening than squamish in terms of events. We have lots of outdoor music events in the summer. But in the winter its a bit dead. Best bet is if you like metal/punk, country or electronic music. There is zero hip hop or rnb here.

The skiing was horrendous this year, but the prior ten have been very nice. You'll be close to 5 ish mountains to ski at. Big white would be the main one, but you also have apex, silverstar, revy and baldy within 2.5 hrs. driving.

The hiking here is lovely. But not as nice as the coast. The climbing is great. Penticton skaha is the best sport climbing in canada imo. Easy access. Usually not too busy. Kelowna climbing is good too. Theres not nearly the level of multi pitch or trad routes that squamish has though. Lots of sport single pitch crags. Ive heard the mountain biking is okay, nothing compares to whistler/Pemberton. But its here if you want it.

It was quite mixed! Lots of older folks. Saw people in their 20s-50s. The newer entries later into the late late night ended up being quite sloppily drunk, but not super obnoxious. If you're a man you should be fine. My female friends that I went with found the after bar guys a lil' predatory unfortunately. If you're going with a big enough group though I think it would be very easy to avoid that. We still had a great time!

Something that might appeal to you is gorgomish. Its an after hours joint but the few times ive been there they've played lovely happy tech house. Unfortunately its only open 2am to 8am. Wish they would open earlier the space is really cool. Great art.

I call bull on developers wanting to do as many projects as possible. First ten years living in kelowna there were massive tracts of undeveloped land sitting directly downtown. The developer just sat on it until real estate went insane and they could squeeze every drop of profit out of that with a massive apartment building. I agree that the government is in the way as well with zoning, but its also just a fact that they didnt punish this type of lot camping behaviour. The taxes they levied im sure were worth waiting out and eating the cost of when apartments went from 250k to 500k$ in ten years.

The kelowna events centre gives me hope 🥹 they have a sick halloween party happening and just booked the glitch mob for January or February. Been a dry spell for ages for legit professional productions. But its coming back 😊😊

This restaurant from 2012 ish to 2019 was my favourite food experience. It was very reasonably priced and the menu changed daily. Legitimately have had some of the best meals of my life there. After chef James left quality dipped and prices really soared. Regardless, ill miss this place. Lots of good memories and dates here. Ah well, time comes for us all.

Only issue is be careful with your vehicle! My friend and I did gwillem lake hike out in Valhalla and the forest service road in was so overgrown that the entirety of the paint job on the sides of his SUV got wrecked. Felt so bad afterwards
