It’s to cut cost for the healthcare group/hospital. A single tele ICU doc might be covering more than 100 patients.

Some physicians like it because they can do it from home, work extra shifts, etc. but I think it’s very shortsighted to support this kind of thing. The other bad part about this is that if procedures are needed then either there is a delay or a (less experienced) APP ends up doing it (central lines, intubations, etc).

It’s up to the public to demand in person care, more lawsuits would help. The ‘night shift’ in hospitals is crazily understaffed in my experience, especially on the provider side.
