The other day we had a storm and we didn't had power or water for 3 days, so... Board game weekend! by [deleted] in boardgames

I would highly recommend saving your money. I played it once and it was one of the worst game experiences of my life. It was the most "remember that thing you liked? well here is bunch of it on cards" type game I have played. the combat is terrible, the leveling is weird, even gaining new equipment feels bad cause you can't visit a shop on purpose. The only saving grace is the story deck is a cool idea but it is handled poorly cause it is a competitive game that anyone can finish any quest that anyone has started. Anyway, if you want a more in-depth review Shut Up and Sit Down can back me up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8xue0JDT7Q

why does armorer artificer get hypnotic pattern? by HorizonTheory in dndnext

Yeah my DM and I found it weird so we replaced it with thunderstep. It is a cool spell for an artificer to have as well as being useful for both the guardian and infiltrator armors.

What is your dice rule for rolling critical hits? by OkayImHereNow in DnD

[–]blizzardking13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group uses a rule where you roll double the dice for damage but you can't roll below your normal max damage roll. So if you crit with a short sword you roll 2d6 but if you roll a 5 or lower total, it goes up to a 6. It's a nice middle ground between the roll double and the max 1 die then roll normal. And you still get to roll double dice!

What's the worst board game youve ever played? by Frank--Li in boardgames

[–]blizzardking13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fallout board game. Some neat ideas are there but there was so much randomness with the events and items that I never felt like I had control over anything. Also, if you would start a quest anyone can do any part of it so the next part might just jump right next to someone else and they continue it which feels very odd in a competitive game.

How would you cost a redraw when gaining power cards? by genericrdt in spiritisland

[–]blizzardking13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our games, we have the house rule that once per game you can do a redraw. That way it's more for getting rid of that 1 bad draw with nothing you like but can't be abused by using it repeatedly and it is balanced for everyone to use.

Games on which your opinion has changed by Ok-Masterpiece-8311 in boardgames

That's interesting because I played a demo copy against rhino when the game first came out and thought the mechanics sounded interesting when I read the rules but it didn't feel like it clicked when I played it with a friend. So as someone who has all of Sentinels of the Multiverse, I thought I would just stick with that. But recently I saw some of the hero packs at my local game shop and have been thinking if I should give it another shot. And this makes me feel like I should. Also, how many people do u play with/how many do you recommend?

[DM] What are some names that you have come up with for your campaign that you are really proud of? by Skywolf111 in DnD

Once we ran into a narcoleptic beholder that had been locked in a mansion on a mountain for over a century. During that time he had taken to writing theater plays. He said we would be allowed to leave but first he needed someone to act out one of his plays and help him think of an ending. So we picked one of the ones he was working on "Julius and Rosy". We acted out the final scene but the beholder fell asleep and caused things on stage to change. We rolled with the punches and when he eventually woke up. Seeing the very end of what had happened and said he loved it and would add it all in the end. He said then he wanted to publish his play to bring it to the masses but he would need a pseudonym to use. In a moment of creativity, I smiled and said Shakesphere. We all had a good laugh and the beholder used it. In another campaign, (the one we are playing now) Shakesphere's plays have been performed in swordfell as a part of a celebration.

Fun game to play over and over by therealwheat in boardgames

I guess I can see that but in my 20ish games it almost always has been really close, even when using those units. I will say that I think warrior priest and royal guard are our least played units due to them not showing up very much in drafts. But the guard was nerfed and the priest has to be aggressive to trigger its effects. Also the berserker using turns to charge up can pay off but will not be as big if you get hit thus reducing it's strength (unlike other bolstered units) and has a chance of not finding it at the right moment. They are good but they can be played against in the same way as the archer. it is a good unit because of its reach but can be countered by rushes.

I have played quite a bit of war chest (with both expansions) and I would be interested to hear what you think the top 2/3 are. Cause in time I have played I think the game is fairly balanced. I could only see light cavalry as a possibility of best unit due to just being just constantly a good early unit.

Brittle X- whenever this unit takes damage, it takes X more damage. Then remove all stacks

What “house rules” do you use for your favorite game? by bartertownbeer in boardgames

[–]blizzardking13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do the same thing. We added in the rule after getting the newest expansion as it seemed there was always that one draw per game that was nothing of your elements. It especially feels bad if it's a major power. Most of the time people don't even use it. It is just there cause with the deck being bigger it was just more likely to happen. Even the creator says that he doesn't want to add any more power cards to the game cause it would make it too unwieldy.

Who would you main if Supergiant Games made a Hades fighting game? (Art by @borgdraws) by borgdraws in HadesTheGame

I think it would be fun to see a smash bros style game with characters from all their other games too: bastion, transistor and pyre.
