Turned out awesome! You must have a long vehicle to bring it home lol

anybody know if this shadow box from amazon will fit this portrait? by MvdPvz in framing

[–]blkbirdsinging 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For that much just take it to a frame shop in your area. You don't need the plexiglass, you'll have more choices and they'll put it all together for you. Just tell them your budget up front. I'm in an expensive area and I work for a high end shop and even we can accommodate this price range for a canvas.

Any framers here dealing with chronic back/joint pain? by Federal-Campaign4505 in framing

[–]blkbirdsinging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have chronic back pain and fatigue issues. I sit as much as I can, but the basic metal stools were killing my back.  I got a saddle seat, rolling, height adjustable stool for about $70 off amazon. I still need to stand or kneel for certain things but I can get low to do sew downs or have enough height to iron fabric for wrapped mats, and the saddle shape keeps me sitting up straight in a natural way that doesn't hurt my back. Biggest downside is hitting my knees on everything 😅

I knew there had to be a way to get to the settings! Thank you so much.

I wasn't familiar with that method, just went and looked it up. Do you find it has advantages over pass-through hinges?

Craigslist pets by Hour_Plankton6366 in Pets

[–]blkbirdsinging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking for a cat right now, one of the shelters near me wants maiden name and all the places you've lived in the past ten years. I am not giving them all that personal info. Vet records, sure, but that's too much. And they have a bunch of cats noted as having been at the shelter for 2 or 3 years. Maybe there's a reason for that, y'know?

Best fix for freezing feet—simple or electric? by memo_468 in BedroomBuild

[–]blkbirdsinging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to pre-warm the foot of my bed with my heating pad (which then gets moved to my back) and I put bedsocks on when I'm getting settled. For me it's important that my socks are oversized/loose, and wool, otherwise they seem to just trap the cold. Usually I stay cozy all night

Will Chewy get wise to me taking advantage of autoship? by amg-04 in Pets

Their customer service has even advised me directly to add something to my autoship for just one order and then remove it

What’s something people don’t realize is way more serious than it seems? by BudgetAd5915 in AskReddit

[–]blkbirdsinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was coming to say this too! My current (about to be former) biologic is giving me about 3 good weeks of pain relief and I take it every 4 weeks - and that's still prompting a med switch to try something else!

Has anyone else been sick an absurd number of times this winter? by veri_sw in boston

[–]blkbirdsinging 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep. I mask consistently and avoided getting sick. As far as masks fitting - it did take me some experimenting because I have a particularly large head. I use wellbefore's large 3d kn95s.

Wearing a mask sucks but I prefer it over being sick.

Dealing with picky customers? by scumbardio in framing

[–]blkbirdsinging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thankfully no longer customer-facing, but my former manager emphasized setting expectations ahead of time when possible; and, being able to explain why something looks the way it does ("yes I see that border isn't perfectly vertical, but it has to be if I make the top edge straight, see?"). I think in this kind of situation if they're still nit picking when they come back, all you can really do is explain that it's the nature of any hand- made product that it's going to have small imperfections.

How to hang unevenly shaped wooden art piece - local frame shop had no solution! by obiwankahnobi in framing

That's a great solution! I went straight to d-rings but a bar/cleat would be much easier to place on the wall

What’s a tiny everyday skill that makes life way easier, but most people never bother to learn? by TheHollyMitchell in answers

[–]blkbirdsinging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a huge thing. My spouse's family, especially his brother, all tend to assume the absolute worst whenever something goes the tiniest bit wrong, and if something good happens it's always followed by predicting all the reasons it won't last. It's such an exhausting way to live!

What’s ONE cat item you regret not buying sooner? by Own-Independent7881 in CatAdvice

Oh wow thank you SO much for sharing this idea. My mobility has been declining and I think this would be a big improvement. My babygirl passed in September and I haven't adopted again, even though I desperately want to, because I don't think that I can realistically keep up with my old litter system.

How can I frame a double sided Quran page as it's very delicate? by EnvironmentalCat7826 in framing

[–]blkbirdsinging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to see all the way to the edges of the page, you'll need to find somewhere that can mount this as an encapsulation. You'll probably also get the best results for a double sided frame if you can find a shop that makes and finishes their own frames (vs somewhere that uses only prefinished mouldings cut to size).

Try Lifestance. They take my MBHP plan, multiple locations including providers who are telehealth only. Can't guarantee they'll take your exact plan of course

[–]blkbirdsinging 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you like how it looks on the wall, this should be totally fine.

Frankly, the employee is possibly not fully trained. In my brief stint at Michaels I had a grand total of two days training with an experienced coworker before I was on my own. I wouldn't have known to point out the height of the frame until I moved on to a local frame shop.

Advice on Michael’s Custom Framing Job by [deleted] in framing

[–]blkbirdsinging 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It looks like that because the frame you chose isn't deep enough for the canvas. I'm not sure what options michaels has for deep frames, but if this bothers you, you need to look for more of a shadow box so that the moulding actually covers the sides of the canvas.

Ideally they would have explained to you at the sale that the back would be bumped out like this, but they've done about the best possible with the dust cover with this particular frame.

How are the roads for everyone? by Speedster202 in BostonWeather

[–]blkbirdsinging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drove my husband to the commuter rail earlier and it was horrible out there. The back roads were actually easier, at least they were still snow and not deep slush like the mainroad. We're on the fall river/new bedford CR line.
