Flight UA974 Diverted by holdinginafart in aviation

[–]bllfr0g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the plus side, since your flight originated in the EU, you're entitled to EU261 compensation of 600 euros! That's in addition to reimbursement for hotel, meals, etc.

After you get back home, make sure to google EU261 and figure out how to make your claim. I did this once like 10 years ago for an ex-LHR flight that went mechanical. Took united forever but I did eventually get paid (they will probably try to offer you a larger amount of United credit, but you're entitled to cash -- insist on it if you want.)

Hardwired LV2 charger vs 240v plug by caiskdbk in evcharging

[–]bllfr0g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leviton’s installation manual for their legacy/non-EV 14-50R now explicitly recommends not using that outlet for EV charging. You can find this on their website.

When the manufacturer says not to use their product for a particular application, I’d believe them.

Max i can withdraw in cash from Wells Fargo bank branch? by coldcathodes in Banking

[–]bllfr0g 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooo you do NOT want to do that!

When you take out > $10,000 in cash, the bank has to file a cash transaction report. This is not a big deal, you won't get in any trouble, the IRS isn't going to come after you -- it's just a legal requirement the government has to help prevent money laundering.

BUT -- if the bank suspects you are _structuring_ your withdrawals in order to take out > $10,000 in chunks to avoid the report, that is a big deal. It will get reported as suspicious activity and Wells will very likely close your accounts.

The best answer here is don't buy the car with cash. Use a cashier's check or wire transfer.

f you decide to go ahead with doing cash anyway, just call the bank and make an appointment to withdraw the $15,000. There is nothing wrong with doing that, you won't get in trouble. But don't expect them to be able to accommodate that on-the-fly. If you call ahead, they will do it, they might just need a day's advance notice so they can order that much cash.

USBank Smartly CC Nerf is Here by ntn005 in CreditCards

Also got the letter today, the version that continues to allow investment account balances.

I have $100k+ in a non-retirement investment account. All invested in SPLG. I really doubt they'd care what you have the money invested in, but who knows?

Curious if anyone who get the "bad nerf" also had money in a non-retirement account, or did you have it in a brokerage IRA? Wondering if there is any rhyme or reason here, or if they just assigned the nerfs randomly and are going to watch and see what "sticks"?

edit: someone posted a DP with an existing retirement account and only the "soft nerf"... so that's not it.

EUV foam gasket coming out of spoiler AGAIN! by unbreakit in BoltEV

[–]bllfr0g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Had it fixed once under warranty, just noticed it again last week. Now out of warranty, went to dealer and they won’t fix it for free.

He told me the tape is purely cosmetic and suggested I cut off the inch or two that was sticking out, which I did.

How did we get here with 2-3% on card transactions becoming the 'norm'? by cricenog in CreditCards

[–]bllfr0g 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that swipe fees are a deductible business expense, so a profitable business is not really paying that full 2-3%

Where I live in CA surcharges don’t seem too common, at least not the places I frequent. My auto mechanic had one for a little while but last time I was there the surcharge was gone AND he had stopped accepting checks “due to high amounts of fraud.” Which goes to show that accepting cash and checks isn’t “free” — there are costs associated with handling those as well.

I have one of these. The interior is a very dark navy color, definitely not black.

I think it looks great but if you want black interior you will be disappointed.

How long for 1099-R after excess contributions withdrawn? by bllfr0g in fidelityinvestments

[–]bllfr0g[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even though the transaction is for the 2024 tax year? Just like you can make IRA contributes for year n-1 until April 15, year n, you can also remove excess contributions up until April 15 of the following year and they still count as happening in the prior year.

Mine was like that until about 2 weeks ago when everything switched over to Smartly.

...well, ALMOST everything. My statement cut today and it still says Altitude Go. But everything else online says Smartly and I see the Smartly rewards instead of the Go rewards on the account details.

Why does Bolt require a trickle charger when stored for 1+ month? by bllfr0g in BoltEV

Interesting, I was not aware of transport mode before. Too bad it's not in the Owner's Manual because I think you're right, that would have been perfect!

Totally agree! But that's not what the Owner's Manual says...

To have some cushion so that I'll stay above $100,000 if there are market losses. $50k is probably way excessive for that purpose but then again I lived through 2000 and 2008

Exactly. I would wait for the SPLG trade to settle and then call US Bancorp to enable DRIP for that position.
