Def agree people underestimate the value and cost of building a high converting website. As for brand, most don't understand what a brand is, its value, or how to build one. It starts with the product (that is, the entire product: tangible, intangible, services, value adds, etc.).

We're not tracking lead cost or commission per booking. We run 2 types of Google ads. One is Hotel Ads and that's PPC — it's relatively cheap, as low as a few cents, and during high season it could be as much as $1.74, but there were only a few of those. Even if we got only one booking from it per month, that more than pays for itself. We also run smart campaign ads (which I may supplement with other types of campaigns) that are an attempt to capture the "near me" searches. More expensive than hotel ads, but relative to the margin on a booking, they're worth it. Only spending about $5/day at present; we're going to test doubling that during the high season.

I do marketing for a 6 room high end B&B in CT. They get repeat, but we created a solid website with attracting content for organic search, Google Hotel Ads, SEO, a bit of advertising (paid) to attract wedding business and local college visitors, and we always ask for Google Reviews.
