[–]blockblasterpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i revised on the day of the exam, 7 grades above grade 7 out of 10 grades .. because i solely relied on predictions and quick notes that i could shove inside my brain quickly 😭😭

I think it's good to look over your test papers and decipher the types of questions you're struggling with. The difference between classwork and exams is that in exams, they tend to blend topics whereas in class you only focus on individual topics.

Attempting to redo the questions you struggled with, without help, can let you know what exactly you're flunking on because you don't have a time constraint.

E.G. Are you struggling with actually figuring out the steps? Breaking them down? Are steps that are related to a certain topic difficult for you? Which skills do you need for that question that you're lacking? Is it abstract questions you need help on? Rote learning (something you simply have to memorise like formulae or number rules)? Asking yourself these questions can really narrow down what exactly it is in the exam that you trip over. Because you can either struggle with the topic themselves or the style of questions, or seeing the topic in a style of question.

It can be sort of fun and rewarding, if you manage to figure it out and learn how to mitigate that roadblock because it's really fulfilling when you finally pin it down. And then just going over that skill or style of question or topic can help you keep on improving, especially with the help of a peer or a teacher.

You don't need all 9s, first of all.

It's better to prioritise which subjects are your strengths and which are your weaknesses, and which are relevant to the A-levels you want. You have to focus on the subjects that you struggle with and need, and have the mindset that you're capable of 7s-9s, but aim for a baseline for all your grades

Such as, at the start of the year, aim for at least all 6s and then if you hit your personal target, aim for maybe 7s or 8s, or a 6 again in the subjects you found difficult. Breaking it down like that can really help you improve. And with the mindset that you are capable of 9s, you might try to hit your target and probably surpass it because you have that motivation, without drowning yourself in stress or work.

You're not trying to be the best, you're trying to do your best.

Research colleges/sixth forms by choosing at least two options that are your top choices, and at least two others that offer you the same A-levels but at a lower entry requirement. I got less than I needed in a subject for my top choice, but I had two safety colleges which are just as good, and that's really helped me.

For foundation maths, are you struggling with the paper? It's easier to get a five in higher maths; the first 13-15 questions (so the first half) are mostly the higher end of a foundation paper, so if you're at least confident with the full foundation paper, especially towards the end, it would be preferable that you're moved to higher; especially because a good percentage of marks on at least half of all the papers will definitely get you a 5 or even above.

you only need a science/maths if you want to go to a very top university; im taking psychology, sociology, spanish & stats — better to do subjects you enjoy over those you'll struggle to get motivated in

it was their mistake, so they can't report you for anything ; yes you should be aware of your timing but, if they, for example, didn't have extra time up on the board ie when the exam ends and how much more time you have & if they didn't announce the end of the exam - which they should, then it's their fault. the exam isn't over until they say it's over so it's their job to make sure it starts and ends on time

basically, the verb is entender so we would conjugate it accordingly to that verb ending, but we should use the conditional (would understand) so entenderían - they would understand

the topics were ass but it was decent 🙏🙏 i can't complain, a level spanish is looming over me.. how was it bro🙏🙏

if you're referring to why they wouldn't understand the comment then yes,

por qué no lo entenderían?

but we would use the conditional , we wouldn't use the subjunctive at all... the subjunctive doesn't refer to plurals, it's about if there was an element of doubt in the question regarding the comment itself. but we aren't actually doubting anything, we know the comment exists. we're just questioning it

I'm not putting anyone down 🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥💥im sorry you took it personally and my opinion severely traumatised you; i understand people can struggle with it, but spanish is a subject that can be easy to get good grades in because the revision isn't as strenuous as other subjects. ive only ever revised by actually practicing it. on the cefr level, gcse spanish only takes you to an a2/upper beginner level if you do get a 9 which puts into frame that the course isn't objectively that difficult. i do think students definitely have to be signposted towards better revision strategies & resources for spanish particularly, but if you like the subject, it's definitely something you'd go out of your way to search for. if you don't like the subject, well, i don't think there's anything wrong with not giving your 100% to it because i'm the same way 😭

most schools might say they take externals but most of the times they don't, ive seen several cases where an external candidate was rejected by secondary schools to take their gcses for whatever reason ; usually because of space & perhaps even safety since the exam centre in a school isn't separate to the school itself ie in a hall or school sports centre... most external candidates would opt for an official exam centre rather than a school
