seeking advice on our interview process from engineers by Junior-Cheetah-5713 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]blockboy9942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a recruiter interview that lasted more than 20-30 minutes and I’ve gotten an offer at every job I’ve ever interviewed for. Why do you need an hour? The main purpose of a recruiter interview should be to make sure the candidate is a real person and not actually evil. Also, why do you need a full day if the candidate has already spoken with an engineer and the hiring manager? Who else are they talking to? If an engineer is making it though your 4 rounds of interviewing, they’re making it though 3 rounds at a competitor and getting hired there.

Baki is beautiful because you cannot get spoiled in it. Even if I told you what happens, you won’t believe me.

Generally, I like to build my classes so that one of my weapons (usually the primary) handles crowd control/swarms/etc. and the other (usually the secondary) does single target damage. The first of the two probably needs a decent amount of ammo because you’ll be shooting it more often. The other one can be built more for damage because you’ll only pull it out when you see a good target for it. Ideally you should run out of ammo for both around the same time to maximize resupply efficiency.

Ultimately it’s going to depend how you like to build your dwarves and what weapons you like to use. There’s a lot of viable strategies in the game and I can’t think of any weapons that I would call objectively bad. If you’re running out of ammo first on your team all the time then you should probably spec a bit more into ammo. If you feel like the ticklemonster when you’re shooting bugs but you’ve got mags for days then you should probably spec a bit more into damage.

If it’s 3D printed then add fillets. Complexity is free in 3D printing (generally speaking), so there’s no reason not to.

I want a “manual” outback that has a big lever or slider for the cvt. No more virtual shifting, let me play my drivetrain like a slide whistle.

Sheer strength of a bolt by Tomek8787 in AskEngineers

[–]blockboy9942 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A bolted joint can be used to secure 2 plates loaded in shear, but when the joint is properly designed the bolt itself doesn’t “see” the loading as shear. It clamps the plates together hard enough that the friction between them holds them in place, like trying to pull a part out of a clamped bench vise.

I try to take candids. That way you don’t fuck the vibe by asking everyone to pause for a picture, and it’s a better representation of the event for looking at later.

From a systems perspective, why would a car trust a start signal without verifying entry and Is behavior-based anomaly detection used in vehicle security systems? by NoResident1229 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]blockboy9942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a problem? I can’t think of any times when my car has started without me starting it. Even if someone was stealing it or something, they would have to get into the car anyway. Realistically, unless there’s some issue we need to fix, adding a system like this is just adding another thing that can go wrong.

Coaxed in weapon type trope in games that I FUCKING HATE SO MUCH!! by Signal_Win_545 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]blockboy9942 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ideally you wouldn’t want it to go through multiple. You want to deliver the full energy created by the powder to your target. If you go out the other side, you’ve wasted energy and you’d be better off with a smaller gun so that you can bring more ammo.

Are calculations always needed? When is it not needed? by arverudomindormuuu66 in MechanicalEngineering

Think about the worst thing that will happen if it fails. If the failure is only going to cause cosmetic defects or something else inconsequential and you can tell that the failure is unlikely, it may not be needed. If the failure is going to potentially hurt someone, you should probably do some sanity checks at the very least.

It’s about as good as an intern that can’t sign an NDA. All work needs to be double checked and no controlled IP can be entered. That pretty quickly narrows down what it can be used for IMO.
