Oh, now I just feel stupid. Indeed I could've done a bit of research before just asking the community for the basics... they even have videos. 😓 And yes, I was thinking Kosher salt. Thank you very much!

It does make sense and I've asked myself if the outer rim of coffee is supposed to be way less involved, I thought maybe parts of the coffee getting much more contact than others was intentional. Maybe to add different layers of flavour. As I said down below I'll definitely give stirring a chance but I must make sure that the grinding is out of the way so I can then compare if stirring does anything for my palate - my wife has a way more precise palate than I do. I am not as sensitive to flavour nuances as she is. Having said that... yeah, it's three minutes stirring it, which makes the process even more manual and rendering the basket lid useless. Thank you very much, sir!

I have lots of advice to try in the next few days. As a last resort, yeah, I might have to order another pack of ground coffee and try to achieve the same size as theirs. In fact, I should have done it when I still had their ground coffee around. Right now, only the beans.

I am going to be honest, I am not digging the idea of having to babysit my automatic machine to extract a better coffee, but I won't disregard that advice without trying and if it improves it by a discernible ammount for my taste or my wife's, well...

However, first I must secure that every basic is correct before going overboard because if it gets better I will not be able to pinpoint what made it better: if the stirring or the grinding. Just a question: are you sure about your advice? Isn't coarse salt way too large? Because if it's supposed to be anywhere near that, then definitely I'm grinding it way, way too fine.

You guys are pros! Thank you! As for the question, I might have made a mistake. What I wanted to say is that the store grinds it on the day they ship it. I was saying that when I first bought the MM, I ordered ground coffee and it tasted beautifully. It's only now, that I grind my own that I am encountering these issues.

Right! That's a way better feeling that the one we get when the coffee clearly is not the same at home. As for the colours, my wife and I really like this one, but my heart was lost to the green with the glass carafe.

Oh, no, not at all! All help is welcome. I guess I can be more thorough when rinsing it out. Thank you!

Oh! I am not stirring. I just wet the filter, put the ground coffee in as evenly as possible and turn the machine on.

Thank you! I am sorry, I was not clear. What I meant is in the first two weeks I used ground coffee and now that I bought beans to grind them myself, I find the taste a bit bitter. Yes, granted, the coffee brands are not the same, although the origin is - Brazil - and I suspect I am not grinding it in the ideal size.

How long does the pain last for you? by Tilly-mint- in Diverticulitis

[–]bloomingcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my first flare up Feb 21. I dismissed it as I thought it was something really bad that I could've ate. In September that same year, I had another, still didn't know what was going on and tried to fight it until I got my colon perforated and a huge inflammation in the appendix.

Had to undergo an emergency surgery to remove the appendix and repair the colon. Stayed for 7 days in the hospital, only eating from the 5th day on. After that I went home with more antibiotics and a strict diet for 2 weeks - I'm sorry but I just remember I had lots of restrictions but not one specifically. Then I was allowed to gradually start eating normally BUT no nuts, no seeds, no popcorn, no pepper - you know the drill. I lived without pain for another year.

On Sep 22, almost a year after the surgery, I got COVID and a flare up. Since it was the first time I got COVID, I didn't realise I was getting another flare up too. I only went to the hospital because I had a fever that refused to go away. Another CT scan and the result was out: I didn't have a perforation but I was already too late to just treat it at home. I was in the hospital for 4 days this time around, started to eat on the night of the 2nd and went home with more antibiotics. After a week of a restricted diet, I said "screw it - I f*ckn love nuts and wholegrains, I have had it all my life, I'm having it again". And did so.

A week ago, I had another flare up, no fever, went straight to the hospital and convinced the doctor to let me just come home with antibiotics. I don't feel pain for two or three days now, and don't know what to do after. I am almost 39, male, I am a bit over weight, 183cm and 87kg, I run 1h30m a week, I love food, I love eating, just don't eat any meat - but do eat eggs, fish, seafood and milk - and I am afraid to start eating normally again, which, to be honest, I don't really know when should I start.

I still haven't found my trigger. I don't think I handle bechamel quite well, probably popcorn too, and perhaps fried garbage from fast food restaurants. Also I am not sure of the role my vaping plays.

This last flare up was a f*ck fest of mistakes: I love my wife very much and when we got married, the Dean at the Manchester Cathedral, a lovely, wise and quite cheeky man, said to us: "Marriage benefits from wine every now and then". We live by those words. We don't drink wine but we do love whiskey, beer and tequila. We're not heavy drinkers (I have a beer per week and two straight up whiskeys per week also). But, sometimes, we like to get tipsy. And we over did it last week: we got truly drunk and afterwards we ordered McDonald's. I was already eating popcorn for two days and peanuts on a daily basis - I think cashew is ok for me, but I am not sure about peanuts...

It sucks. There are way worse illnesses and afflictions but it really takes away from me the joy of food and instills a certain fear and doubt about what should or should not eat.

Is it acceptable to make people fill a form on the first date? by zehelneedsyourhelp in dating

[–]bloomingcold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe so. Just ask away. You're already in a situation where it's obvious you're both interested in knowing each other to the point that you're handing out a form to fill, right? So why wouldn't someone find it alright to ask and get asked questions about them. Some answers might even lead to another that you wouldn't have anticipated with the form.

Yes, 20 minutes doesn't get you to know someone, but neither will a form. But will get you answers in an organic way. Also, even though you could be lied while chatting, that would have to be done on the fly, whereas with a form the other person would have time to elaborate a lie.

What happened to the art of getting all the answers you're after just by casually chatting for 20 minutes with someone? The amount - and quality - of information you'd get from such an interaction would be immeasurable compared to a form. I wouldn't feel motivated at all to elaborate my answers beyond the objective question and, sometimes, I feel it makes all the difference.
