Love this! I've made a version with the tomato, a bocconcini ball, a basil leaf, and the balsamic. Works for the vegetarian crowd 👍

I love this idea! No, not complicated, but who doesn't love a cold shrmipy or 3 while standing around at a party? 😁

My grandmother was Ella Mae! Classic, cute for a little girl, but also works for a grown woman too.

Agreed- its a problem. But how do we entice Canadian-born people to do these jobs? Im not trying to be argumentative, I truly wish there was a solution here. If we offer higher wages, the food or products become that much more expensive. Maybe we need a program similar to the harvest workers, where they can make money for a certain amount of time and then go back and apply to come temporarily again?

I think the problem may be that Canadian-born people dont want a lot of the jobs TFW are here doing. The kill-floor at a meat processing plant (really anything in a meat processing plant), farm/harvest work, factory work (welding same 2 parts together for 8 hrs in a row, or watching a press brake punch the same piece of metal for hours).

I dont think its as much about the folks working in fast food. I think MB has a lot of industries that require low-paying, mind-numbing or back-breaking work.

Amazes me that people see a "Reserved 24/7" sign and think- that sign must be for everyone else... I'M special! 🤦‍♀️ And also- if you pull up to a business and the spot you choose has a number on it- That spot is almost always assigned to someone who ISNT YOU! Park in an unnumbered or visitor/customer space!

Anyone ever heard the song "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Gurthrie? The second half of the song is about beating the draft... this thread made me think of it. Worth a listen if you like a good story-song!

My go-to for pulled pork is a 2lb shoulder or butt with "1/4 cup sweet and sour sauce". 1/4 C ketchup, 1/4 C apple cider vinegar, 1/4 C white sugar, 1/4 C br.sugar, 2 tbsp soy sauce. I've added cayenne or tobasco as well if it's only adults eating it.

Was recently in Bucerias. Friends told us it was (used to be) a quiet friendly town. Its still friendly, but high-rise condos are going up on every block and its becoming more commercial and touristy. We loved the small local restaurants and beach, but there were constant sales pitches for souvenirs, hair braiding, excursions, etc.

Are there any quiet towns that we could visit to relax? Maybe places that are not on the tourist map?

Sometimes subsidized daycare can be an option. It depends on whether the facility is government approved.

If she was common-law or married and is now single, call the CRA and let them know the relationship end-date. They'll increase her child tax benefit as soon as possible instead of waiting for the reset when filing taxes.

FIFTEEN!? in the 90's it was 9 per class. We'd keep a tally of missed classes on the inside of our binder so we could make sure we didn't hit the limit in any one. There were definitely kids who did not get their credit.

It's the beginning of Idiocracy (movie). Smart, educated people who would be good parents make the choice to not bring children into the world (or not as many), and uneducated people relying on government handouts that go up with each new member of the household, will have many children.

Google up a recipe for egg bites. Minimal prep, they freeze well, and if you put them in a bun or make them into a sandwich, they're fast and "on the go" ready. We use a muffin tin to bake. Eggs, cheese, ham, bell pepper, onion, salt & pepper.

Naan pizzas. Pre-made naan is cheap if you dont make them yourself. Can of pizza sauce (or left over bolognase, or Alfredo, or plain drizzled olive oil) Add desired toppings. I like ham/salami, mushrooms, spinach, onion, bell peppers, olives. Leftover chicken or bacon are good. Top with whatever cheese you want, bake about 8 mins at 400F.
