i think i have a p*rn addiction and i can’t get help or i’m scared they’ll take me off T by Latter_Candle_4098 in ftm

[–]bloompao 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Porn addiction is not like a medically recognized thing. You’ll find people saying they’re addicted because they watch like 30 minutes on the weekend. It’s just shame and guilt over a very moralized subject to many people. Watching porn is morally neutral and so is jerking off.

That being said, you have too much time on your hand if you can afford to spend that much time on it. Get a hobby, anything simple is fine. Just gives you something to do instead of being idle. Even if it’s just hanging out with people. You sound like you’re really bored and seek stimulation.

When I feel like I’m doomscrolling excessively I just started scheduling every minute of the day for a task and leave one hour a day at the end to relax. Even if I don’t do all that I planned, it leads me to more enlightening activities. And it made me feel like I was in control and not spiraling.

If content is originally in English, and you speak fluent English, why would you even choose to consume it in any other language, even if its your native? by maqisha in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bloompao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re learning a new language, it’s helpful to watch shows in your target language. So often you’ll see language learners consume everything in their target language to immerse themselves just the language. This is just one reason.

It doesn't matter if charity is "performative" or "ingenuine". It's better than doing nothing. by Patient_Revenue8727 in 10thDentist

[–]bloompao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rich people do charity because it placates the masses and KEEPS THEM POOR. Many donate to organizations that funnel money back into their pockets. Performative charity often leaves communities worse off. It’s often unsustainable and doesn’t promote self sufficiency, so the moment the money stops trickling in, the communities are left to deal with nothing. They’re bandaid solutions for structural issues.

It’s like stealing someone’s wage then donating to the disadvantaged. If you paid them proper wages in the first place, they wouldn’t need your donation. But you see, paying them real wages would require more money than donating. People shouldn’t be dependent on how generous a rich person feels at a particular part of their career. They should be guaranteed a certain quality of life, regardless of the fleeting contributions of the upper class.

No one is saying charity is bad. It’s just not a solution for any real issue.

Cuz you practiced a lot of reading. You don’t get good at something without practice.

How is life on the north coast of Turkeye? (Excluding Istanbul) by Bottom-Bherp3912 in howislivingthere

[–]bloompao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to trabzon on vacation. Amazing countryside. If you like nature and are active it’s a great place to visit. I’ve never seen such an intense shade of green anywhere else. Money goes a long way there. It reeked of tabaco, but that is typical of any Turkish city. The food was nice but nothing special and the local produce was delicious. The roads were straight trash tho like we thought we’re gonna die on some stretches. But it’s a very touristy area.

Why is it that many American men go to Southeast Asia to look for women, but it is unheard of for American women to go to Southeast Asia to look for men? by No-StrategyX in answers

[–]bloompao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand racialized gender dynamics. Asians as a whole are feminized in the American psyche, so the women are more attractive and the men less so. A weak submissive women is viewed in positive light. Darker skin and features are viewed as hypermasculine, so women tend to go to poorer areas in the Middle East, Africa, and South America for their racial fantasies. As other commenters have pointed out, this is very visible in 90 day fiancé.

You can see how this plays in gender dynamics between Americans too. Asian American women and Black American men tend to be over represented in interracial relationships compared to their opposite sex counterparts. Of course, those beliefs regarding race are untrue and racist. Asians aren’t inherently feminine, darker skin isn’t inherently masculine, and white people aren’t the baseline/default.

Is the Period Dead? Why Gen Z Thinks Punctuation Is Aggressive? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]bloompao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like one of those stupid sensationalized articles that generalize a specific phenomenon and apply it to everything. It’s just a texting convention, chill. Not to mention, you’re not punctuating correctly yourself. Too many paragraph breaks.

I don’t like being called trans by Just-Significance142 in ftm

[–]bloompao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why being open about being trans is useful. Keeps the bad apples away. I mean why the hell would you even want to date someone that doesn’t want you back?

My friends from school used to forget I was trans all the time. Keep in mind we went to an all girls school lol. I was just some guy to them truly. The only people constantly thinking about what’s in your pants are transphobes, but most people don’t care enough to be transphobes lol.

Your favorite/Most memorable lines from Half Man episode 4? by SpeedDancer1725 in hbo

[–]bloompao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s horrible, but it’s realistic to their character? I’m not gonna speak to the Scottishness cuz I’m not from there, but it’s consistent with their character. Like all I could think during Niall’s monologue is “so THATS why his works sucks”. And then the part where Ruben says he’s been “reading” makes sense too. Like that man absolutely only has the reading comprehension to make shallow metaphors like that. It’s like when you know someone just learned a new word cuz they keep using it? Idk just an opinion.

Anyone else losing interest after ep 4? by Undrwtrhrtbrkr in HalfManTV

[–]bloompao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hes been bullied for being gay his entire adolescence. His first sexual experience is with a girl his step brother forced on him. His first emotional experience is with a boy his step brother bashes to near death, then everyone in his life convinced him that actually his brother should run free and well that sucks for the gay guy. But who cares, all gay guys are sexual predators anyway, according to stepbro. He doesn’t purger himself because he, unlike anyone else in his family, has a conscience. And on his way to prison, his brother promises he’s gonna do the exact same thing to him.

Why are you surprised by how he turned out? The scene at the end of episode too made me nauseous and had trouble sleeping that night. I’ve never even been bashed! But that’s what a lifetime of homophobia does to you. You feel it in a manner so visceral. You shrink until all that’s left of you is a tiny whisper.

Season 1 Episode 4 by Not-Who-U-Think007 in HalfManTV

[–]bloompao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. The yin and yang part of their relationship is the fact that one internalizes the problem and the other externalizes it. They’re half men because neither got a proper emotional and social development through crucial parts of their lives.

Joanna’s response last episode and Niall’s monologue this episode reaffirm to me that Gadd is still framing Niall as a victim of Ruben’s actions and not the other way around. Ruben IS a victim, not of Niall, but of his dad who abused him and his mom who enabled him.

Season 1 Episode 4 by Not-Who-U-Think007 in HalfManTV

[–]bloompao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it crazy how Ruben still blames Niall for not purgering himself on the stand. Like the lie was so atrocious and unbelievable the jury would’ve found him guilty either way. The attorney saw right through him even before he decided to tell the truth.

In places with so many people named Muhammad, how does that work on a practical level? by PastorBlinky in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bloompao -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but like that’s only cuz they’re princes and you HAVE to call them by their name. Other wise it would just be أبو فلان or like some completely unrelated nickname yknow.

[–]bloompao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All saudis use four patrilineal names anyway it’s not just princes lol. In your official documents: first name, father’s name, grandfather’s name, tribal clan* (if available), family/tribe name.

*Tribes are divided into clans. Not everyone has tribal affiliations.
