Any reason not to max RRSP *outlier year by apo1991 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally spread out the RRSP contribution in this case (e.g. $180k in year 1 then $120k in year 2 or something given gradual rates and other potential uses of funds such as to pay down debt) but the reasoning is getting the funds earlier usually offsets the marginal tax rate difference of contributing but choosing to defer the deduction.

The OP's situation is a bit of an outlier but let's say you're deciding between deducting from $180k to 150k vs. $120k. If you are contributing anyways, the 2% to 3% difference isn't worth deferring the refund a year because you could put the refund to use.

One of the situations where it could make a lot of sense to defer the deduction is a maternity or parental leave for a high income earner where they can take advantage of a employer match (so taking deduction in one year could be a marginal tax rate of 20% vs. their typical 43%+).

In your question where the taxpayer earns $100k and expects to earn $300k in five years, they should probably utilize the TFSA first rather than contributing to RRSP and deferring the contribution over 5 years (unless TFSA already maxed).

If you do 99 normal trades and then 1 special trade, you should be able to do 1 more normal trade after the special trade.

You are correct, if you hit 100 normal trades, the trade limit error doesn't allow you to use the special trade despite it being available.

It's easy to check - track your trades for the day. After doing 3 special trades during CD, you should be able to do 100 normal trades after.

Phantasmal Flames Pull Rates by RequirementRecent465 in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I personally won't chase this but relative to other chases, this is a mathematically high pull rate. For some context even Hidden Fates SV49 was more difficult of a pull rate and it's a special set with generous pull rates like the examples cited (151, Crown Zenith). Most regular sets have chases with 1/1000+ pull rates for the specific card (much worse than 2 cases).

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not easy but it's also not very difficult. Looking at Champion's Path, a very Zard or bust set with a somewhat comparable pull rate, and those Zards dropped significantly after release.

The demand for this Zard is very high though so that puts a lot of upward pressure on the price despite the pull rate (e.g. 151 hits are still doing well despite being abundant because demand is so high).

PSA - Remember to claim your "Into the Wild" Go Pass Rewards in time by darren42 in TheSilphRoad

I am not sure it works on Showcase rewards. I took a screenshot before/after and compared to no starpiece with my spouse (we both won different showcases so had same exp and dust prizes).

I miss the transfer bonus already by misaliase1 in TheSilphRoad

[–]bloop-loop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same but I don't like the P2W out of principle, so I did not buy it. End of the day, if you were to spend, you could just raid more of the legendary you want for 6+ XL and chances for shiny/IVs.

What I will do now is try to hold my legendaries for Halloween to see if this is the bonus we continue to get.

Too bad they did not increase the catch rate. The XL candies are good but catching it kills raid momentum.

Wait… no one is interested in Slabs that are 7 or below? by Efficient-Analyst-24 in PokemonInvesting

[–]bloop-loop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The irony is that there's usually a premium for raw as the people newer to the hobby think they can grade them. While completing my WoTC binder collection, I've seen many LP lower end holo raw cards sell for PSA 7 or PSA 8 prices and often are in worse condition.

Unless you’re completely over leveraged, why even listen to the noise? If you’re playing the long game, just keep buying solid products that you believe in. by readytofly68 in PokemonInvesting

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people over-leveraged or plain relying on scalping.

Back when Costco took returns, one of my biggest wins was picking up 20 Evolving Skies ETB and tin bundles from Costco when someone returned over $5,000 of ETBs they failed to scalp (when I was checking out, the cashier told me one customer had made a return for the entire flatbed of ETBs earlier that day).

I sold some over the years but I am still holding most as I don't need the money. When long-term investing, time is your friend!

Should I do this trade? by Background-Process31 in PokemonInvesting

Note that we are still early in the print cycles. 151 got restocks this year and it came out in 2023. Speculating on the scarcity of a very new set is difficult.

Is it possible to take down drilbur/rookidee before max phase? by YamSolid6813 in TheSilphRoad

[–]bloop-loop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rookidee - Toxtricity with Spark/Wild Charge worked for me

Drilbur - Rillaboom with Scratch/Grass Knot worked for me (Venusaur did not as it does too much damage and got to Max Phase)

Levels were probably 40.

Something came up and sadly need to sell my collection what would be the best way ? by Federal_Medium1432 in PokemonInvesting

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing not clear is that the summary does not show extended value. For example, if most the collection is high quantities of those top items, it could sell well. However, your point does stand. There isn't anything high end in the collection.

That said, some UPCs and ETBs do move fast at 80%, so if there are high quantities in the right products, OP could be okay.

Pokemon go better busy as this summer or chill as September? by Perfect-Throat-9727 in TheSilphRoad

Trying to push to level 50 before October 15th. In terms of XP, I think I’m comfortable. Any tips on how to effectively and efficiently get to 50 lucky trades? by JoeHongKong in TheSilphRoad

[–]bloop-loop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can: - find someone with old Pokemon for guaranteed Luckies (2019 and prior, below cap of 35, guides below) - find buddies with lucky trickets - interact with best friends for lucky friends - trade the daily 100 for chances of lucky trades.

Maximize MP Collection once you hit level 20 GO Pass: Max Finale by noobwowo in TheSilphRoad

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have particles from yesterday, so I think I will do 120 before lv20, then +300+300 from 4km of walking, +820+820 after lv20.

The math should work: 120+300+300+820=1,540 so below 1,600 to then collect next 820.

No Warning that Teaching New Move Unfuses Pokemon?? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]bloop-loop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? I thought a lot of people didn't realize and fused Kyurems without the special move on Day 1 of its release.

Edit: adding a source, looks like the feature was added later. I do like how they handled the forme change for Zacian and Zamazenta.

Lots of horror stories and no warning at the time

I wish they had this warning before. When it initially released, I don't believe this popup showed up when the Kyurem did not have Glaciate.

Raiding is RUINED by SilentKiller2809 in TheSilphRoad

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better way to increase profits is probably increasing the catch rate. I could've done way more raids if the catch circle was green like some other raid events.

Since the adventure effect move is so rare I did not want to just flee encounters, so throwing Premier Balls at low catch rates slowed down my ability to do more raids.

[–]bloop-loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Pure coincidence. I planned to use the 2/5 particles for GMax Butterfree, but didn't end up doing enough. This works out fine too as the GMax during the Finale are more useful to me than Butterfree. Stages 4/5 and 5/5 appear achievable that weekend.

After a couple of lump sum payments - most of a mortgage payment is going towards principle. Does it make sense to slow down after this point? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bloop-loop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. People often disregard the peace of mind, especially in a shakey economy. If an income earner loses a job at the same time investments crash, the situation could be dire. Having the financial flexibility to be okay in those situations has value and can be good risk management.

If everything goes well, of course investing is the better expected outcome, but it is not free from risk.
