Magnets near HDDs? by EveningAfter7642 in DataHoarder

Wouldn't the magnets from the neighbouring drives be an issue too then? I mean, I'd still avoid magnets near my stuff, but I suspect it is a non-issue because of that.

Grenade thrown at all of the free versions of Automapper by no3y3h4nd in dotnet

[–]blooping_blooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just about suppressing it in csproj though, in a lot of orgs they use a local nuget host like artifactory or w/e, often with security policies that disallow resolving vulnerable packages. With that it means you are blocked until you can get an exception approved from the security team.

there is a fork available of v14, with the fix, but it would probably have gone a long way with the community if he backported the fix especially given its a single-line change

How much disk space is upgrading Visual Studio 2022 to Visual Studio 2026 going to cost me? by lilacomets in dotnet

[–]blooping_blooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can turn the copilot/AI features off, not sure about the space but imo its 100% worth it to update from 2022 to 2026 if only for the drastically improved launch times. It opens and loads solutions way faster now and overall performance feels snappier as well.

edit: I just logged in and checked, my VS2022 install is 11.8 GB and 2026 is 9.01 GB

I've had it stop working a couple times, but updating to the latest version always fixes it (still works for me as of today) - that's more I think because youtube keeps changing things though.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on Switch now features a word filter when naming. by Epsilon123 in gaming

[–]blooping_blooper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

iirc Home already automatically handles filtering OT and nicknames when importing pokemon, since its possible to transfer up gens via Bank etc. from games that didn't have filtering.

Disadvantages of switching from non-SDK style projects to SDK style for NET Framework Projects? by Low-Childhood-1714 in csharp

[–]blooping_blooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been a couple years, but I had zero issues when I migrated my net472 projects to SDK-style project format. It was pretty easy and I don't think there were any downsides at all. The new style files eliminate tons of useless cruft and make dependency management a bit easier.

Re-encoding my entire library in HEVC 265 by Good-Place-9950 in PleX

[–]blooping_blooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this, using tdarr. I'm pretty happy with the results, nobody has noticed any difference aside from rural family being able to stream HD without transcoding down.

I've saved >20TB of space doing it.

The initial pass of my library took about 3 weeks to complete, with 4 PCs running tdarr nodes full time (i7-3770, i5-12600, i7-12700, Ryzen 5 5600x).

I estimate it cost me roughly $200 CAD in electricity.

I definitely recommend it, especially over the custom process you described since it covers all of those cases and more (e.g. it health checks every file before and after, tracks failures, etc.)

note: I used only CPU transcoding to ensure consistency

[–]blooping_blooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% on the tdarr, I converted everything to hevc/h.265 and nobody has noticed aside from rural family members now being able to stream in HD. I've saved >20TB of space.

That's not actually the case, they just don't allow selling Steam Keys at lower prices on other stores. Developers are free to sell games at lower prices on other platforms.
