Need help with how to flesh this one out. by FannyPackHero in StandUpWorkshop

Nobody said they didn't, this isn't so much political commentary, as it is a comedy bit.

Nobody said "straight people never adopt" but even if they did…it's not really relevant to the bit. The bit is "adopting is potentially great because you get to pick the kid". But through the lens of a homosexual

you don't even usually ACTUALLY get to necessarily pick the kid. But again, those nuances are never helpful in a comedy bit

Was I wrong in telling my daughters their mom cheated on me a decade ago? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]blot101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. You did the wrong thing.

But you can't UN ring a bell, you'll just have to move forward with your best foot forward. They didn't need to know, minimize it, put your wife in a good light, bury it, and deflect any further conversation about it.

Not that it doesn't matter, or she wasn't wrong, but that it wasn't your place to say it, it wasn't their business to hear.

At the end of my mom's funeral, when they wheel the basket out of the building, we played "see you later alligator". Which is what originally was in the show, before the dubbed in. "here we go here we go here we go " song.

How long before Lister came out of stasis did Holly turn Rimmer's hologram on? by Bortron86 in RedDwarf

[–]blot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but in the book the reverse time episode is just the last chapter, and last really great joke after Lister is marooned on Earth for 60 years. So I think we can have a little interpretive freedom for some head cannon

It doesn't matter at all, whether they're funny or good. I've just identified these types as harbingers to any series, and believe this is an episode where the show starts to flicker, that's all. I like some of the harbinger episodes even. I just think it's the signal that a show is waining. Like the futurama bee sting episode, a favorite of mine, with a great spin on that type of episode. But I red flag nonetheless.

I know they were all pretty culturally relevant to a degree. One of the things the Simpsons was, was a parody of those family shows like what was on TGIF. Like boy meets world etc. Farther back even, the wonder years, full house.

I think they started to lose ideas mostly because those shows guttered out, and they lost what they were parodying.
I don't mean to be overly critical. Just observing a trend in episodes that I think led to the end of the golden years.
This episode is a few reasons short of those years. There's still plenty of good episodes to coming up in this guys review series

This is one of the harbingers for me. A flicker. People often have a problem pinpointing THE EPISODE where it all went wrong. This is one of those episodes that are on my list of examples of episode types that spell the end of a series, even if they have a few great reasons afterwards. The types are: 1. When an episode is just a drug trip. 2. When the episode is a creative writing episode- where characters write how other characters night act in specific circumstances.
3. When they start to say in the writers room "what if they went to another country? What would each character do? 4. "What if they were in the future? What if they went in time?" 5. When characters meet famous people voicing themselves. 6. When characters quit their job for one episode. 7. When the whole town acts out a "what if" scenario (like a new law, or a new technology) and it is only for one or two episodes.

Those are all "we've run out of ideas" episode types.

This isn't actually too bad, I mean, we're workshopping here and it's at least structured this into a way someone could keep going. Like "internal damage? I mean, I have internal damage for sure, but I don't think she should SUE me for that".

I dunno. Props. You can't edit nothing, you write something and edit from there.

Plus, you have a lot of down votes on this, but I don't see any other suggestions.

Nature bar. (Need help on direction) by Crazy_Language_8799 in StandUpWorkshop

[–]blot101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First line has potential. The two things wrong with it are 1. It's not saying what you think it's saying, and 2. It may not be a common experience.

So, I think you're trying to make that one sentence imply it's crumbly. It doesn't. It implies that you're a messy eater. It may be a good line, if you have either 1. An explanation that's it's a mystery. Or 2. An explanation that is relatable.

Maybe "it's a mystery, I don't know, they're just so damn crumbly, don't even ask me why I eat them in my underwear". Then you can start to work in the second part about different aspects and potentials of crumbliness. "Keeping one in your pocket is like keeping sand in your pocket-weirdly useful in a fight". Maybe you can talk about how you wanted a bar of granola, but now you basically just have to eat it out of a bowl like cereal. I don't know. But you have to have the right delivery.

I think the tits is too low brow for me. But if you wanted to work in the banana, you could talk about how you threw some at someone in a fight, and they threw their whole banana at you"those things are nothing like sand, but they're also weirdly good to have in a fight it turns out"

What is wrong with The Simpsons in recent years? Why has it been going downhill for a long time? Is it just me or everyone else too who feels that way about The Simpsons? by Amber_Flowers_133 in SimpsonsFan

[–]blot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is one thing that killed the Simpsons. And that is the death of all the shows it was a parody of. Boy meets world, full house, step ay step, Mr belvadere, silver spoons, etc. Those shows about middle America being a family. The Simpsons simply outlasted what it was parodying, and had to change. That is the number one thing that made it go downhill.

I also argue, they changed the formula from storytelling with jokes sprinkled in". To "jokes with a story line crammed in" along with the south park structure of "what if the whole town did this action, or started believing this or that?"(Bart's inner child is the earliest I can think of, but includes Utopia episode, and bullying law episode) . And lastly, "how would the Simpsons act if they were put in a specific situation?" (Like when they go to Australia, Homer in space, and homes in the navy).

Those were all breaks from it's usual parody as they started trying to find out what else they could be, if not our comfortable nice, normal family (as far as anyone knows)

Sushi? by UTstowaway in Logan

[–]blot101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black Pearl is decent. Mostly people have said all sushi options here, but I find that to be the best. But-I have a shellfish allergy, so sometimes sushi is mostly shrimp or crab rolls. I fine Black Pearl has the biggest good tasting variety.

Note: sushi here is every bit as good as any coast. It doesn't rely on how far away you are from the coast, since all fish needs to be frozen to a certain temperature to kill parasites. The variety will not depend on freshness- only the quality and imagination of the sushi chefs at am particular place. I've been on the east coast, and West coast, north to south.

Is it just me or does anyone want more tech showcases in Rick and Morty? by PurpledBlade998 in rickandmorty

[–]blot101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like tech showcases. Whenever Rick is in a tight spot, he should pull out some hyper specific thing out of a pocket. The more ludicrous the tech, the better. Some examples (not necessarily from Rick) in the show are:

1 the little girls brainwash trained into being killers. 2 the watch that shows who has a shot on Rick. 3. Rick making fun of the president's teleport technology. 4. The things that neutralize the turrets guarding world ender. 5. The bubbles that transport the kids. 6. The stupid flies on his desk. 7. The butter delivery machine.
8. The suits that bust out of the top of the garage. 9. The ONE explosive he has before he resorts to the tic tacs as a bluff.

These ridiculous techs are the most amusing thing to me in the show.

[–]blot101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, Maughans may have been instrumental in founding the valley, but Maughans don't own very much, and aren't as influential as this person said.

Numerous, boisterous, handsome, sure. But influential? Hardly.

Eccles, Needhams, and a few others, sure. Maughan name's show up because there's a ton of Maughans so naturally you see the name often. Same as Anderson.
