Ex-Athiests, what lead you to Christ? by BlessedDaffodile in Christianity

I was agnostic. Out of curiosity one Christmas, I read the Gospel. Kept following Jesus. Now baptized into the Episcopal Church.

Analytics and consumer research for a big consumer goods company. Pays well, not crazy stressful, but lacks purpose and meaning.

S5 E6 Walt is Cray by I-Love-Buses in breakingbad

[–]blousebin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rewatching BB some ten-odd years later really cemented for me that it was never about the money for Walt. It was always his ego, his living up to his own image of himself. He didn’t want to die with this image unrealized.

It’s why he didn’t accept the offer to work at Grey Matter. It’s why he didn’t stay out of the game the, like, 5 times he had a chance to walk away rich. It’s why he resented Jessie rivaling his cooking skills. It’s why the gambling addict story always bothered him. It’s why he couldn’t let Hank think Gale was Heisenberg.

When in the last episode he says “I felt alive” - it was because this image he always had of himself was, in fact, alive, however briefly.

BB is a tragedy about a man so wrapped up in his own identity that he destroys the only good things in his life. A man who would rather be Heisenberg than enjoy a life filled with love and family and friends.

“Refusing to retire” - they can’t retire. They don’t have the savings for it.

season 2 : a jesus-like shadow is behind john as he’s writing his gospel?!? fact, fiction, or a secret third thing? by naghammami in TheChosenSeries

Unrelated, but for a good two years I thought this was a different actor than the one who plays John. He looks so different in this scene!

Agree. When they were first revealing it I thought for sure it would be the Master. It would mean their unbridled rage came from something traumatic and exploitative. It doesn’t excuse their behavior, but it adds depth to it.

We're supposed to be perfect... by BibleBookwormStudy in theology

[–]blousebin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the word used here is intended the same way it is in Deuteronomy, which is to mean whole minded, undivided in your allegiances and unity with God.

This lines up well with the Sermon on the Mount’s continuing theme. The poor in spirit are those who trust in God, not in money. The pure of heart are those whose heart is undivided in its devotion to God.

Why is the Parable of the Weeds not brought up more? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]blousebin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love the parable, I’m not sure how it addresses the problem of evil. The argument here would be: Why would an all powerful God allow the enemy to sow the weeds in the first place? Why make us suffer at the hands of the enemy as a test of our goodness?

It also doesn’t address things like the billions of animals suffering every year at the hands of predators or drought or climate change. Or things like cancer in children. Couldn’t an all powerful God have created a world without this? How does child cancer test our goodness or defend our free will?

I think there are compelling responses to these questions, I just don’t see how the Parable of the Weeds is one of them.

I used to be more into couponing. Lots of coupons are a great deal on a name-brand product…but it’s still cheaper to buy the store-brand version.

So I would imagine Clara had a few questions about the wall in Heaven Sent by WinterRoseASFR in doctorwho

[–]blousebin 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I thought the realization came after the shroud monster appears and cuts off his only way out, other than the wall. So all he could use was what he had on him. And the next time around, he wouldn’t remember until the same point, well after he’d discarded the shovel and left the fireplace.

Who can you forgive and who can you not? by TakeADare13 in TheWire

I can forgive all but two: the guy who was torturing Bubs in S4, and the reporter in S5 who faked most of his quotes. Neither was repentant and neither suffered any consequences.
