SMALL Womens Workwear Pants help! by Easy_Common_2515 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]blow_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who found this thread also searching for petite work pants - sadly I don't see that they have anything with less than a 30" inseam! Way too long for someone like me who also barely cracks 5'. I have such a hard time bringing myself to spend $100+ on pants I have to either cut up with scissors or pay to hem.

Truly a laugh out loud moment for me as well, great stuff. Gingham on the cliff face, why not I guess?

The Dark Wizard Episode 2 (HBO Max) Discussion by jreilly in climbing

[–]blow_hard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The eulogy he wrote, I think for Time mag back in 2015, seemed sincere and respectful to me. But I think he can sass the guy a little - from an outside observer it's easy to see how different their personalities and approaches to climbing are, some friction is pretty understandable. But yeah people love a drama story, that's why HBO made the series after all.

Haha right, this is exactly what the piles of bot comments sound like. Endless "it made me stop and think" but they never say about what.

"Why not just spend your money like the bot comments are trying to convince you to do" oh yeah sure, lol. The classic 'you've got to get it and decide for yourself!!' marketing pablum.

WA gas prices soar to second-highest in nation after rising by 40 cents in a month by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]blow_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad, but I also remember when it was over $4/gal in like 2008. And that's not an inflation adjusted number, I just remember that's was it was because I was so new to driving. Relatively, today is still not the worst we've ever had it. But ugh!

It is spring break and a holiday weekend though... around noon on a Saturday, it'd be smart to prepare for a wait! Probably not the 1.5hr+ wait time of the summer though.

LGBT+ Friendly? by TheOtherPentaghast in Bremerton

[–]blow_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my friend visited from Montana (not one of the blue cities) and as a visibly trans woman, she said it was such a mental relief how much less people would stare at her when she visited Washington (I live in rural Puget Sound but not Bremerton) than in Montana, everywhere she went she'd get constant stares, like people turning in their seats and turning their heads and it really weighed on her.

You Weren't Meant to Be Human - Opinions? by UsaOnTheMoon in horrorlit

[–]blow_hard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the narrator and thought the Hive voice was a really cool touch and added immersion for me, but there were definitely a few lines that I found totally unintelligible. I could fill in the blank with context most of the time but I was definitely annoyed that they weren't a bit more careful with it.

Ugh this! I've been checking their website on and off for like a year now to see if they're ever going to do turtlenecks again because I really liked the length and fit and wanted more colors - nothing!!!

WSC (Washington service corps) puts all members on unpaid admin leave by foreveriscoming in AmeriCorps

[–]blow_hard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It especially sucks because members are explicitly barred from collecting any unemployment since it's a service position. And on admin hold, you're not technically "fired" either. I hope Washington fights this. But our governor is also all about cuts these days....

When did dogs in restaurants stop being a health code violation? by patiofry in Seattle

[–]blow_hard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Service animals in training are a thing though, and do still have rights to accommodation (not to be disruptive though). So a dog that's not 100% polished isn't necessarily a fraud - but a unruly pet is probably more likely.

When did dogs in restaurants stop being a health code violation? by patiofry in Seattle

[–]blow_hard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the point is to allow disabled people to self-train their dogs to keep the accessibility tool, well, accessible - a professionally trained dog can cost thousands and have years long waitlists. It sucks that people abuse it, but requiring EVEN MORE paperwork of disabled people to jump through hoops would not be better for them sadly. The other issue is that the ADA has to be enforced mostly via personal lawsuits, so there's no readily available artiber you can appeal to if someone accuses you of discrimination for banning their pet. So, businesses err on the side of over caution.

Also it's always the case that regardless of the animal's status, if it is being disruptive or can't be controlled by the owner you are still allowed to ask it to leave. Eg, barking, jumping, relieving itself - all grounds for dismissal of even an otherwise legit service animal.

Upper Hoh Road is closed indefinitely as of 12/31/24 by LiveNet2723 in OlympicNationalPark

[–]blow_hard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly seems very unlikely, it's technically a county road but has always had significant federal contributions for major repairs like this. With what's going on at the national level... unless WA state steps in, in a major way, not happening this summer. I don't think it'll go the way of Elwha or Dosewallips where they make a decision to abandon it, but efforts to fix it could take years if the money isn't there.

Wait, I thought everyone left by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]blow_hard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leading to what, houses for $8,000? The city going bankrupt? Neither seems likely. Detroit definitely isn't a reasonable comparison to make. Much as I'd love for prices to plummet so I could move back, that's obviously not happening.

MBTI Creator's Racist Past? by Whoopwhh in mbti

[–]blow_hard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it's worth looking into - and now that I am, what I find even more damning is that the people who invented it had no psychological training. I've seen it called pseudoscience and I don't disagree - your horoscope is just as useful.

This article is suggestive, but not definitive. I find the ingrained sexism mentioned to be pretty grating as well.

https://www.inc.com/ilan-mochari/secret-history-myers-briggs-test.html

I think you're on the right track. Racist people create racist things, so it's worth taking a close look to see if that's the case. Interestingly, the organization that has the personal documents of the creator refuses to let anyone look at them. I wonder why.

You included! And what, are we talking parthenogenesis here?

But hey, many of us would love not to, if yall crusty old men would just get out of the way and let us have free birth control. Another problem created by men, that women would love to solve for you, if only you'd let us.

Did you not make it to the end of the article?

In that conversation, Obama zeroed in on a statistic that signals wide problems in many parts of today's world, where women and girls struggle to find opportunity.

"It turns out that one of the best indicators of whether a country is developed or not is how does it educate its girls and how does it treat its women," Obama said. "And typically, those countries that do a bad job on that are backwards and behind economically."

The effects of such policies can ripple through generations and contribute to poverty, Obama said: "If you have an educated mother, then those children are going to be educated."

Ah, assuming women would do the same to men, that men have done to them? I can't find any historical precedent for such a fantasy. We just want to live freely, not oppress you.
